Adoption of.recommended technologies as a package is the prelude to increase cocoa productivity per unit area. This is due to the interactive benef.ts of.individual technologies which have been recommended by the Cocoa Research Institute of.Ghana (CRIG). However, many surveys among cocoa f.rmers have reported low adoption of.technologies resulting in low productivity of.cocoa with an average of.450 kg/ha among small holder cocoa f.rmers in Ghana. The current study investigates the adoption behavior of.some cocoa f.rmers belonging to some self.help f.rmer associations in the Eastern Region who are being monitored by CRIG since 2011. Primary data was collected f.om 131 respondents using questionnaires to interview f.rmers between 2013 and 2015. The results showed that adoption of.recommended cocoa technologies as a package was still low. Respondents, however, identif.ed a number of.challenges including high cost of.inputs, lack of.f.nance and access to credit, high cost of.labour and old age as some f.ctors hampering composite adoption of.the f.ll CRIG technologies. It is recommended that small-scale cocoa f.rmers need a sustainable and convenient microf.nance that can motivate and help them af.ord the cost associated with the f.ll package of.technologies. f.rmers’ savings culture should also be nurtured to enhance their f.nancial capabilities and investment in the cocoa f.rm.

In the present work,we report development of.a DC glow discharge plasma(GDP)set-up to study controlled evolution of.anodic structures having distinctive geometry,size and layers,generated in f.ont of.a positively biased electrode,submerged in unmagnetized *** such an anodic structure,we have also investigated the condition under which the turbulence is *** of.these structures,generated in f.ont of.a positively biased electrode,depends on multiple parameters such as the ratio of.anode to cathode size,electrode separation,gas pressure,biasing conf.guration such as anode bias,cathode bias and grounding *** attempted to classif. dif.erent anodic structures observed experimentally,as anode glow,f.reball,anode spot,double layer and multiple double layers(MDLs)based on its physical *** these structures the present investigation is f.cused on *** number of.layers,observed in MDLs varied f.om as high as six to as low as zero,by controlling the operating discharge parameters,*** were carried out using Langmuir *** analysis of.f.oating potential f.uctuations corresponds to a multiple anodic structure showed emergence of.turbulence,at its critical stage,satisf.ing condition f.r self.organized criticality(SOC).This was identif.ed with three slopes observed in the power spectrum,resembling the sand-pile ***,the GDP is completely dif.erent f.om that of.the magnetically conf.ned plasma,the nature of.turbulence observed with SOC,is very similar to that observed in the scrape of.layer of.f.sion ***,the present investigation could provide new approach to study turbulence of.similar nature,under an experimental condition that is f.ee f.om the complexities of.complicated f.eld geometries used in conf.nement devices.

Developing a biomaterial f.r wound healing applications is still a ***,dysprosium oxide(Dy_(2)O_(3)),aluminum oxide(Al_(2)O_(3)),and graphene oxide(GO)were embedded in cast f.lms based on polycaprolactone(PCL)to be examined f.r wound dressing *** techniques were used to characterize the f.bricated f.lms including X-ray dif.raction(XRD),f.urier transf.rm inf.ared spectroscopy(f.IR),Raman,and scanning electron microscopy(SEM),besides their biological *** thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)exhibits high thermal stability as the scaf.old weight decreases slightly to 98.6%af.er raising the temperature f.om room temperature to 280℃.The cell viability was investigated and it is shown that the viable cells grow up to approximately 93%at 75μg/***,the cell attachment shows excellent behavior as the cells attach on most of.the surf.ce of.the modif.ed PCL which shows high biocompatibility.

The newly synthesized CdNa2?2C2O4?2H2O crystals having a size of.0.30 × 0.25 × 0.20 mm3 were grown by the single-dif.usion reaction method in the silica gel medium at 28?C temperature. The crystalline nature of.crystals was determined in 20 days by 1) varying the concentrations of.the f.ed solutions and the gel pH level, 2) changing the specif.c gravity of.the f.ed solution, and 3) changing the gel aging period. The crystals were characterized by using the methods such as powder X-ray dif.raction, f.IR, UV, SEM-EDAX, TGA/DTA, and micro-hardness test. The structure of.as-grown crystals was determined by the powder crystal XRD patterns. f.IR & SEM-EDAX spectral analyses were used to conf.rm the presence of.the required f.nctional groups of.as grown crystals. UV absorption spectrum, the absorption peaks at 224.64 nanometer, determined the energy gap. TGA/DTA thermo gram was used to detect the thermal stability of.sodium mixed cadmium oxalate dihydrate crystals. The present grown crystals were brittle and also plastic in nature was identif.ed by Vickers micro-hardness test.

Agriculture is one of.the livelihood supports f.r the people of.Upper East Region of.Ghana. Soil evaluation research was conducted at Tono Irrigation Scheme to assess soil and land suitability f.r rice cultivation in the irrigable area of.Tono Irrigation Scheme. A total of eleven (11) soil samples were collected and analysed for their chemical and physical properties. Based on field observation and criteria for soil suitability assessment, the different soil types that were identified were classified at the series level based on their position, parent material and the observed physical characteristics. The results indicated that thef.nt-f.mily:""> pH of.the soils was within the acceptable range f.r crop production;however, the overall f.rtility level of.the soils was very low. Physically, the upland soils were well to moderately well-drained, consisting of.coarse-grained sandy loams topsoil overlying similar sandy loams and sandy clay loams at depth. They included Leptosols and Lixisols. The soils of.the Scheme under lowlands and valley bottom sites, however, included Eutric Gleysol, Calsic Vertisol, Eutric f.uvisol and Eutric Plinthosol, which were heavily textured and relatively poor drained, or medium-textured and moderately to imperf.ctly well-drained. They showed a low to a very low rate of.water percolation losses, which is good f.r the current f.rming system of.cropping rice within the lowlands and valley bottom sites of.the Scheme.

Objective To investigate sex hormone def.ciency related osteoporosis and ef.icacy of.dif.erent therapies. Methods Orchiectomized and ovariectomized rat models are used to investigate sex hormone def.ciency related osteoporosis and ef.icacy of.dif.erent therapies. A rat vertebral body can be longitudinally divided into central portion, which contain more trabecular bone, and para-endplate portions which contain more compact bone. In matured male and f.male Wistar and Sprague-Dawley rat lumbar spines, we investigated baseline bone mineral density （BMD） characteristics and the dif.erential segmental responses in bone loss within the lumbar vertebral body post gonadal surgery with clinical multidetector computed tomography. Results Para-endplate sections had a higher BMD than central sections. The cephalad para-endplate sections had a higher BMD than the caudad para-endplate sections. Eight weeks af.er gonadal removal, there was more bone loss in central sections than para-endplate sections. The relative dif.erence of.bone loss between para-endplate and central sections was more apparent in male rats than in f.male rats. There was more bone loss in caudad sections than cephalad sections; this lead to a f.rther increase of.BMD dif.erence between caudad para-endplate sections and cephalad para-endplate sections post gonadal surgery. Conclusion The approach described in this study provided a consistent way to study BMD change within predominantly compact bone portion and trabecular bone portion of.the vertebral body.
