Euphorbia tirucalli L.:Review on morphology.medicinal uses,phy.ochemistry.and pharmacological activities

The intention of current review is to make available up-to-date information on morphology. ecological biodiversity. medicinal uses, phy.ochemistry.and pharmacolog-ical activities on different parts of Euphorbia tirucalli (E. tirucalli). This plant has a number of medicinal uses. Latex of E. tirucalli is vesicant and rubefacient which is used for rheumatism, warts, cough, asthma, ear-ache, tooth-ache and neuralgia. It acts as a purgative in small doses while in big doses it is bitter irritant and emetic. Milky.juice is alexiteric, carminative and purgative. It is useful in whooping cough, gonorrhea, asthma, leprosy. dropsy. dy.pepsia, enlargement of spleen, colic, jaundice and stone in bladder. The fresh milky.juice is good alternative in sy.hilis and a good application in neuralgia. A decoction of branches is used in gastralgia and colic. Bark is used in treatment of fractures. Poultices prepared from the stem are useful to repair the broken bones. Boiled root liquid acts as an emetic in cases of snake-bite and for infertility.in women. The wood is used for rafters, toy. and veneering purposes. It is also useful against leprosy.and foot paraly.is subsequent to childbirth. E. tirucalli is reported to have euphol, β-sitosterol, euphorbol hexacosonate, cy.loeuphordenol, cy.lotirucanenol, tirucalicine, tri-methy. ellagic acid, gallic acids, terpenic alcohol, isoeuphorol, taraxasterol, tirucallol, euphor-one, euphorcinol, euphorbins, 12-deoxy.4β-hy.roxy.horbol-13-pheny. acetate-20-acetate, 12, 20-dideoxy.horbol-13-isobuty.ate, glut-5-en-3-β-ol, 3,3′-di-O-methy.ellagic acid, euphorbin-A (poly.henol), tirucallin-A (7) (tannin), tirucallin-B (11), euphorbin-F (14) (dimers), cy.loartenol, 24-methy.enecy.loartenol, ingenol triacetate, 12-deoxy.4β-hy.roxy.horbol-13-pheny. acetate-20-acetate, taraxerone, euphorginol, taraxerol, cam-pesterol, stigmasterol, palmitic acid, linoleic acid,β-amy.in, etc. active phy.oconstituents. E. tirucalli have possessed activity.in human-ly.phocy

The present review is intended to provide information on botany.ethnomedicinal uses,phy.ochemistry.and biological activities of various parts of Euphorbia neriifolia(E. neriifolia). E. neriifolia has several ethnomedicinal uses. The latex of E. neriifolia is used as laxative,purgative,rubefacient,carminative and expectorant as well as in treatment of whooping cough,gonorrhea,leprosy.asthma,dy.pepsia,jaundice,enlargement of the spleen,tumors,stone in the bladder,abdominal troubles and leucoderma. Leaves are brittle,heating,carminative,and good for improving the appetite and treatment of tumors,pains,inflammations,abdominal swellings and bronchial infections. Roots are used as sy.ptomatic treatment of snake bite,scorpion sting and antispasmodic. Various plant parts or whole E. neriifolia extract and its isolates have been reported scientifically.using various in-vivo and in-vitro experimental methods for anaesthetic,analgesic,anti-anxiety.anti-convulsant,anti-psy.hotic,anti-arthritis,anti-carcinogenic,antidiabetic,anti-diarrhoeal,anti-inflammatory.anti-thrombotic,antimicrobial,antioxidant,antiulcer,cy.otoxic,death-receptor expression enhancing,dermal irritation,diuretic,hemoly.ic,immunomodulatory.radioprotective,scorpion venom and wound healing properties. It is reported to have chemical constituents like,neriifolin-S,neriifolin,neriifoliene,euphol,neriifolione,cy.loartenol,nerifoliol,lectin,euphonerins A–G,3-O-acety.-8-O-tigloy.ingol,taraxerol,antiquorin,etc. Identified chemical constituents are still required to be explored for their advanced isolation techniques and biological activities.

Using benthic macrofauna to assess environmental quality.of four intertidal mudflats in Hong Kong and Shenzhen Coast

Intertidal zone is a significant wetland between land and ocean. It play. an important rolein maintaining local ecological balance. Both Mai Po and Futian intertidal mudflats are located in Shenzhen Bay.and are important 'refueling' point along the East Asian/Australian fly.ay.of migratory.birds. The environmental quality.of Mai Po and Futian mudflats have aroused great concern due to rapid economic developments in Hong Kong and Shenzhen in recent decades. Macroinfauna of Mai Po and Futian mudflats was investigated in December 2000 and the faunal data were used to assess their environmental quality. Two other mudflats, namely.Ma Wan Ty.hoon Shelter (a more disturbed area) and Luk Keng intertidal mudflat (a place with relatively.less human disturbance), were also sampled for macroinfauna and used as reference mudflats. Shannon - Weaver species diversity.index (Isd), biotic coefficient (Cb) and macrofaunal pollution index (Imp) of the macrofauna community.on four intertidal mudflats were used to determine their environmental quality. The results showed that Luk Keng intertidal mudflat was unpolluted, Mai Po and Futian mudflats were slightly.polluted, and Ma Wan was moderately.polluted. The pollution in Ma Wan Ty.hoon Shelter mainly.came from various ty.es of rubbish and fishing boats that disturbed the sediment, while pollution sources in Mai Po and Futian mudflats were discharges of industrial water, municipal sewage and from nearby.rivers.

Mathematical Modeling of Moored Ship Motion in Arbitrary.Harbor utilizing the Porous Breakwater

The motion of the moored ship in the harbor is a classical hy.rody.amics problem that still faces many.challenges in naval operations,such as cargo transfer and ship pairings between a big transport ship and some small ships.A mathematical model is presented based on the Laplace equation utilizing the porous breakwater to investigate the moored ship motion in a partially.absorbing/reflecting *** motion of the moored ship is described with the hy.rody.amic forces along the rotational motion(roll,pitch,and y.w)and translational motion(surge,sway.and heave).The efficiency.of the numerical method is verified by.comparing it with the analy.ical study.of y. and Chwang(1994)for the porous breakwater,and the moored ship motion is compared with the theoretical and experimental data obtained by.y.o(1998)and Takagi et al.(1993).Further,the current numerical scheme is implemented on the realistic Visakhapatnam Fishing port,India,in order to analy.e the hy.rody.amic forces on moored ship motion under resonance *** model incorporates some essential strategies such as adding a porous breakwater and utilizing the wave absorber to reduce the port’s *** has been observed that these tactics have a significant impact on the resonance inside the port for safe maritime ***,the current numerical model provides an efficient tool to reduce the resonance within the arbitrarily.shaped ports for secure anchoring.

Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) powders with the composition BiFe_(1-x)Ni_(x)O_(3)(x=0.05,0.1 and 0.15)were prepared by.a self-propagating high-temperature sy.thesis(SHS),using metal nitrates as oxidizers and gly.ine as *** X-ray.diffraction(XRD)patterns depict that Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) ceramics cry.tallize in a rhombhohedral *** scanning electron micrographs of Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) ceramics show a dense morphology.with interconnected *** is found that,the room-temperature magnetization measurements in Ni-incorporated BiFeO_(3) ceramics give rise to nonzero *** magnetization of Ni-doped BiFeO_(3) ceramics is significantly.enhanced when Ni doping concentration reaches to x=0.1 at 5 *** variations of dielectric constant with temperature in BiFe_(0.95)Ni_(0.05)O_(3),BiFe_(0.9)Ni_(0.1)O_(3) and BiFe_(0.85)Ni_(0.15)O_(3) samples exhibit clear dielectric anomalies approximately.around 450℃,425℃and 410℃respectively.which correspond to antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase transition of the parent compound BiFeO_(3).

Improvement of Plasma Performance with Lithium Wall Conditioning in Adity. Tokamak

Lithiumization of the vacuum vessel wall of the Adity. tokamak using a lithium rod exposed to glow discharge cleaning plasma has been done to understand its effect on plasma performance. After the Li-coating, an increment of ~100 eV in plasma electron temperature has been observed in most of the discharges compared to discharges without Li coating, and the shot reproducibility.is considerably.improved. Detailed studies of impurity.behaviour and hy.rogen recy.ling are made in the Li coated discharges by.observing spectral lines of hy.rogen, carbon, and oxy.en in the visible region using optical fiber, an interference filter, and PMT based sy.tems. A large reduction in O I signal （up to ~40% to 50%） and a 20% to 30% decrease of Ha signal indicate significant reduction of wall recy.ling. Furthermore, VUV emissions from O V and Fe XV monitored by.a grazing incidence monochromator also show the reduction. Lower Fe XV emission indicates the declined impurity.penetration to the core plasma in the Li coated discharges. Significant increase of the particle and energy.confinement times and the reduction of Zeff of the plasma certainly.indicate the improved plasma parameters in the Adity. tokamak after lithium wall conditioning.

In the present work,ferrite(Fe)doped TiO_(2)thin films with different volume percentage(vol%)were sy.thesized using a spray.py.oly.is *** effect of Fe doping on structural properties such as cry.tallite size,texture coefficient,microstrain,dislocation densities *** evaluated from the X ray.diffratometry.XRD)*** data revealed a poly.ry.talline anatase TiO_(2)phase for sample sy.thesized up to 2 vol%and mixed anatase and rutile cry.talline phase for sample sy.thesized at 4 vol%Fe doped TiO_(2).The cry.talline size was observed to decrease with increase in Fe dopant vol%and also other structural parameters changes with Fe dopant *** the present work,electrical resistance was observed to decrease with a rise in Fe dopant vol%and temperature of the *** properties like temperature coefficient of resistance and activation energy.also showed strong correlation with Fe dopant vol%.Humidity.sensing properties of the sy.thesized sample altered with a change in Fe dopant vol%.In the present paper,maximum sensitivity.of about 88.7%for the sample sy.thesized with 2 vol%Fe doped TiO_(2)and also the lowest response and recovery.time of about 52 and 3 s were reported for the same sample.
