Development of a bicycle level of service model for urban street segments in mid-sized cities carrying heterogeneous traffic： A functional networks approach

Roadways in developing countries usually carry heterogeneous traffic where on-street bi- cyclists encounter a very complex interaction with various categories of vehicles. In order to quantify the operational conditions of bicyclists under such conditions, a reliable bicycle level of service （BLOS） model is yet to be devised. This study intends to partially fill this gap by proposing a BLOS model suitable for urban road segments in mid-sized cities carrying heterogeneous traffic. A recently introduced artificial intelligence technique namely, associativity functional network （FN） is implemented for the development of this model. FN is a problem-driven approach that overcomes several limitations of the artificial neural network （ANN） technique. The urban bicycling environments persisting on 74 street seg- ments are analyzed, and 8 influencing variables （geometric, traffic and built environ- mental, etc.） are identified. Of these variables, interruptions caused by frequent stoppages of intermittent public transits and frequency of driveways carrying high volume of traffic are newly introduced. In the modeling process, a strong relationship has been established between the identified variables and perceived BLOS scores collected through perception surveys. The resulting BLOS model has shown a high reliability for its applications in the mid-sized cities and has reported a high correlation coefficient （R） of 0.94 with the average observations. Besides, a sensitivity analysis is also carried out to identify the relative importance of input variables based on their contribution in the BLOS estimation. As observed, effective width of the outside lane, traffic volume, and on-street parking activity are by far the most important variables, which contribute 38.3%, 21.8%, and 12.7%respectively in the prediction of facility BLOS. Thus, these three attributes should be largely prioritized while making any plan of actions for the betterment of bicyclists.

The propagation and interaction between ion acoustic multi-solitons in an unmagnetized multicomponent plasma consisting of fluid hot ions, positrons and both hot and cold electrons, are investigated by employing the extended Poincare–Lighthill–Kuo（PLK） method. Two different Kortewege-de Vries（K-dV） equations are derived. The Hirota＇s method is applied to get the K-dV multi-solitons solution. The phase shift due to the overtaking and head- on collision of the multi-solitons is obtained.

This study investigated an economic order quantity (EOQ) model with completebackorder for fixed lifetime perishable items under multiple advance and delayedpayments policies. Here, a new type of business policy is consideredwhere supplieroffers the retailer to pay a fraction of the purchasing cost before the order deliverybymultiple equal installments starting from the ordering time and the rest amountafter the delivery by multiple equal installments. Here, some theoretical results areillustrated to determine the conditions of existence and uniqueness of the optimalsolutions. A closed form solution is determined to solve the proposed model underapproximation. Some numerical examples are provided to examine the validity ofthe proposed model. Finally, sensitivity analyses are presented to obtain the effectof optimal policy and provide some managerial insights of the model.

Mangroves are salt-tolerant forest ecosystem that extends between tropical and subtropicalintertidal regions of the world. Mangroves are biochemically unique vegetation that produce wide array of naturalproducts with immense medicinal potential. These plants are the most valuable resources and provide economicand ecological benefits to the coastal people. Natural products from these plants are of great interest as theyprovide innumerable direct and indirect benefits to human beings for the discovery of novel antimicrobial andother bioactive compounds. They possess active metabolites with some novel chemical structures that belong todiverse chemical classes such as alkaloids, phenol, steroids, terpenoids and tannins. Several mangrove specieshave been used in traditional medicine or have few applications as insecticide and pesticide. To date, severalmangroves, and their associated species and solvent extracts are screened for antimicrobial activity along withthe presence of potent bioactive compounds. The present article emphasizes and creates awareness aboutthe potential mangrove plants and their associates as a source of biologically active compounds with potentantimicrobial properties. This paper also elaborates the mechanisms of action and various methods for screeningof antimicrobial compounds.

The continued growth of ferrous powder metallurgy in automobile and others engineering application is largely de-pendent on the development of higher density materials and improved mechanical properties. Since density is a predominant factor in the performance of powder metallurgy components, it has been primarily considered for the present investigation. An experimental investigation have been undertaken in order to understand the variation of density with respect to the variation of process parameters viz., compaction load, sinter temperature and sintering time. The relation among the various process parameters with density has been observed. A mathematical model has been developed using second order response surface model (RSM) with central composite design (CCD) considering the above mentioned process parameters. The developed mathematical model would help in predicting the variation in density with the change in the level of different parameters influencing the density variation. This model also can be useful for setting of optimum value of the parameters for achieving the target density.

The Linz-Donawitz（LD） steelmaking process produces LD slag at a rate of about 125 kg/t. After metallic scrap recovery, the non-metallic LD slag is rejected because its physical/chemical properties are unsuitable for recycling. X-ray diffraction（XRD） studies have indicated that non-metallic LD slag contains a substantial quantity of mineral phases such as di- and tricalcium silicates. The availability of these mineral phases indicates that LD slag can be recycled by iron（Fe）-ore sintering. However, the presence of 1.2wt% phosphorus（P） in the slag renders the material unsuitable for sintering operations. Electron probe microscopic analysis（EPMA） studies indicated concentration of phosphorus in dicalcium silicate phase as calcium phosphate. The Fe-bearing phases（i.e., wustite and dicalcium ferrite） showed comparatively lower concentrations of P compared with other phases in the slag. Attempts were made to lower the P content of LD slag by adopting various beneficiation techniques. Dry high-intensity magnetic separation and jigging were performed on as-received samples with particle sizes of 6 and 3 mm. Spiral separation was conducted using samples ground to sizes of less than 1 and 0.5 mm. Among these studies, grinding to 0.5 mm followed by spiral concentration demonstrated the best results, yielding a concentrate with about 0.75wt% P and 45wt% Fe.

Owing to the non-collocation of actuators and sensors in a flexible-link manipulator(FLM)it becomes difficult to achieve accurate tip position *** resolve this issue,a vision sensor is used for direct measurement of the tip position instead of employing the traditional mechanical *** the different visual servoing(VS)control schemes,image-based VS(IBVS)is more ***,there are many challenges in the IBVS scheme such as singularities in the interaction matrix and local minima in trajectories that affect the system performance in real-time *** this study,the moment-based new visual feature is selected to address the aforesaid issues that arise in the IBVS ***,a new two-time scale IBVS controller is developed for addressing the tip-tracking control problem of the two-link flexible manipulator(TLFM).In the proposed control scheme,the dynamics of the FLM is decomposed into two-time scale models,namely a slow subsystem and a fast *** performance and robustness of the proposed new two-time scale IBVS controller for TLFM are verified by pursuing simulation *** is observed from the obtained results that the proposed controller effectively stabilises the oscillatory dynamics and tracks the reference trajectory accurately.

Ancient casting process for production of brass or bronze utensils and icons were made in hot molds using clay molded investment casting or piece mold process,as presumed by *** mold process is still traditionally practiced in many parts of Eastern India and Bangladesh along with investment casting ***,Bengal artisans are more accustomed to piece mold process unlike tribal artisans who practiced investment casting *** piece mold casting process has been reconstructed to get the idea of metal characteristics in order to investigate ancient casting process of Bengal and *** characterization of ancient archaeo-metal products come to a type of cast Cu-Sn-Zn-Pb type quaternary alloy produced by a slow freezing *** these alloys physically differ from the traditional cast alloy of binary Cu-Zn type brass,the physical characteristics are similar to the binary cast alloy *** investigation throws light on the similarity of the production processes by which ancient artisans probably produced cast metal products.
