Anthropogenic disturbances and status of forest and wildlife in the dry deciduous forests of Chhattisgarh state in India

The advent of modem forces and the changes in socio- economic patterns of forest dwellers have increased the pressures on the forests. In order to mitigate such pressures and also to protect the forests and wildlife the model of protected areas networks has shifted and en- hanced such pressures in the unprotected natural forests due to several reasons. Being a low profile category of protected status and continuous human settlements, the present study highlights the case of dry deciduous forests of Sarguja district of Chhattisgarh state of India. The major objec- tives of this study were to quantify the status of forests and wildlife and also to determine the extent of anthropogenic disturbances faced by the dry deciduous forests of central India. Transect and silent drive count methods were used for sampling wildlife and quadrat method was used for sampling vegetation. Besides, the local uses of various forest pro- duces were also studied in view of understanding the people dependency on forests. The forest vegetation, in the study area, was pre-dominated by Shorea robusta, which had Madhuca indica, Diospyrus melanoxylon and Buchnania lanzan as the major companion species. The forest had either the high girth class mature tree species or the saplings. The low vegeta- tion cover and density were due to the high anthropogenic pressures mainly in the form of heavy livestock grazing and collection of etlmo- botanically important species. The study though reveals that the area is not rich in wildlife and the forest is fragmented, the area still supports some important species, which include many rare and endangered plants and animals. The findings of this study have been discussed in view of the management and conservation of the forest and wildlife in the dry deciduous forests.

Silica Induced Early Fibrogenic Reaction in Lung of Mice Ameliorated by Nyctanthes arbortristis Extract

Objective To investigate the pharmacological effect of Nyctanthes arbortristis (NAT) leaf extract in the prevention of lung injury induced by silica particles. Method Lung injury was induced in Swiss mice through inhalation exposure to silica particles (<5m) using a Flow Past Nose Only Inhalation Chamber at the rate of -10 mg/m3 respirable mass for 5 h. Lung bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid collected between 48 and 72 h was subjected to protein profiling by electrophoresis and cytokine evaluation by solid phase sandwich ELISA. Lung histopathology was performed to evaluate lung injury. Results Inhalation of silica increased the level of tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), and of the 66 and 63 kDa peptides in the BAL fluid in comparison to sham-treated control. Pre-treatment of silica exposed mice with NAT leaf extract significantly prevented the accumulation of TNF-a in the BAL fluid, but the 66 and 63 kDa peptides remained unchanged. The extract was also effective in the prevention of silica-induced early fibrogenic reactions like congestion, edema and infiltration of nucleated cells in the interstitial alveolar spaces, and thickening of alveolar septa in mouse lung. Conclusion NAT leaf extract helps in bypassing silica induced initial lung injury in mice.

The understanding of the flow characteristics and effect of gas–solid interactions in pneumatic risers is fundamental to investigate to ensure effective design cost-effective ***,to understand the effect of gas–solid interactions on the hydrodynamics of newly proposed conversing risers,this study mainly focused on predicting pressure drop in the dilute phase pneumatic conveying *** experiments were conducted in a converging riser having a convergence angle of 0.2693°.Various solid particles such as sago,black mustard,and alumina have been considered to study the effect of particle sizes and density on the pressure *** experimental outcomes indicate that the total pressure drop increases with an increase in the solid density and gas mass flow ***,smaller particle sizes are also increased the pressure *** empirical correlation is developed for the prediction of total pressure dropΔPTin converging pneumatic riser via dimensional *** dependent variables such as particle and air density,drag force,acceleration due to gravity,the mass flow rate of air and particle,the diameter of particle and converging riser,the height of converging riser were considered to develop the empirical *** established relationship is tested,and experimental data have been fitted for its *** estimated relative error of less than 0.05 proved the significance of the developed ***,it can be stated that the established relationship is useful in studying the effects of various parameters on the pressure drop across the length of the conversing riser.

Mesoporous titanium-aluminosilicate as an efficient catalyst for selective oxidation of cyclohexene at mild reaction conditions

Mesoporous titanium containing alumino-silicate materials with various titanium/silicon(Ti/Si) ratio(AlSi-Ti(n);n = Ti/Si mole ratio) have been successfully synthesized by a novel single-step sodium(Na)-free method, for the first time. The obtained characterization results of the prepared materials reveal that in-situ addition of Ti into AlSi shows ordered mesoporous structure along with uniformly dispersed Ti species in +4 and +3 oxidation states suitable for selective oxidation of allylic C—H bond. The prepared mesoporouse Ti-AlSi(n) samples exhibited excellent activity in the oxidation of cyclohexene with 100%conversion and 100% selectivity to ketone-alcohol(KA) oil(cyclohex-2-en-1-ol and 2-cyclohexen-1-one) at low temperature and reaction time(35℃ and 30 min reaction time). This study suggests that AlSi-Ti(0.05) material can be a promising catalyst for the selective oxidation of cyclohexene under mild reaction conditions.

Investigating the effects of peptide-based,MOS and protease feed additives on the growth performance and fecal microbial composition of weaned pigs

Investigating the functionality of enzymatically(transglutaminase and alcalase)treated almond protein isolate

The effects of partial hydrolysis on the functional properties of almond protein isolate(API)were investigated by treating the isolate with alcalase enzyme(2.4U/g)and a subsequent polymerization of API was studied using the enzyme,transglutaminase(121U/g).The result obtained showed that partial hydrolysis could induce structural changes in almond protein,mainly reflecting at the molecular weight,duration of hydrolysis,and the active site of the *** comparing the two enzymes’ability to react on API,enzyme alcalase resulted in producing hydrolysates with the highest protein solubility of 89.38%,surface hydrophobicity of 62.68,and foaming expansion of 31%at the 60th minute of hydrolysis and produced lower molecular weight *** alcalase API hydrolysates improved the protein’s functionality,the enzyme failed to increase the substrate’s emulsion and foaming *** the other hand,transglutaminase enzyme produced higher molecular weight peptides and excelled in enhancing the stability of emulsion and foam along with the elevation of%degree of hydrolysis.

Antidiabetic and anti-lipemic effects of Cassia siamea leaves extract in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats

Objective:To investigate the antidiabetic and anti-lipemic effects of Cassia siamea methanolic leaves ***:The antidiabetic study was performed by measuring blood glucose level with elegance glucometer at weekly intervals i.e.0,7,14 and 21 in normal and streptozotocin induced diabetic *** cholesterol,triglyceride and HDL-cholesterol were determined in normal and streptozotocin induces diabetic rats by *** was used as a reference drug at a dose of 10 mg/***:After the oral administration of extracts at doses of 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg for three weeks,blood glucose levels and body weights were significantly improved(P<0.01).Daily oral treatment with the extract also resulted in significantly reduction of serum cholesterol and ***-cholesterol level was found to be improved to(P<0.01).Conclusions:The Cassia siamea leaf extract is useful in controlling blood glucose level as well as improving lipid metabolism and body weight in rats with induced diabetes.

Prostate-associated gene 4 （PAGE4）, an intrinsically disordered cancer/testis antigen, is a novel therapeutic target for prostate cancer

Prostate-associated gene 4 （PAGE4） is a remarkably prostate-specific Cancer/Testis Antigen that is highly upregulated in the human fetal prostate and its diseased states but not in the adult normal gland. PAGE4 is an intrinsically disordered protein （IDP） that functions as a stress-response protein to suppress reactive oxygen species as well as prevent DNA damage. In addition, PAGE4 is also a transcriptional regulator that potentiates transactivation by the oncogene c-Jun, c-Jun forms the AP-1 complex by heterodimerizing with members of the Fos family and plays an important role in the development and pathology of the prostate gland, underscoring the importance of the PAGE4/c-Jun interaction. HIPK1, also a component of the stress-response pathway, phosphorylates PAGE4 at T51 which is critical for its transcriptional activity. Phosphorylation induces conformational and dynamic switching in the PAGE4 ensemble leading to a new cellular function. Finally, bioinformatics evidence suggests that the PAGE4 mRNA could be alternatively spliced resulting in four potential isoforms of the polypeptide alluding to the possibility of a range of conformational ensembles with latent functions. Considered together, the data suggest that PAGE4 may represent the first molecular link between stress and prostate cancer （PCa）. Thus, pharmacologically targeting PAGE4 may be a novel opportunity for treating and managing patients with PCa, especially patients with low-risk disease.
