Forests Policies and Programmes in India: Implications for Climate Change Adaptation

Climate change is a major global environmental and developmental challenge and climate proofing of vulnerable sectors, programmes, natural systems and communities by integrating adaptation and mitigation options into planning process are increasingly becoming an integral part of development. The basic premises on which this could happen are the national and sectoral policies that govern any programmes and actions implemented on ground. This study reviews existing policies, plans and programmes and their implications for climate change. Based on the analyses, key areas of research, policy initiatives and institutional and capacity development needs have been identified, to facilitate climate change adaptation. The forest policies formulated so far in India have been broadly aimed at conservation, reduction of pressure on forests and provisioning of biomass to the large forest dependent population for their fuel and fodder needs apart from generating revenue through production and sale of timber. However, these have not been formulated with climate change as a consideration and therefore may become less effective as climate change and its impacts become increasingly evident. The study clearly identifies that the current policies and programmes have elements/features and activities that directly or indirectly contribute positively towards adaptation, although the primary implications are towards biodiversity and to some extent ecosystem functioning. It finally highlights the need for incorporating climate change concerns in forest sector development programmes and also to address the issue of climate change.

BACKGROUND This is a unique case of a patient who was found to have two extremely rare primary malignancies synchronously,i.e.,an ampullary adenocarcinoma arising from a high-grade dysplastic tubulovillous adenoma of the ampulla of Vater(TVAoA)with a high-grade ileal gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST).Based on a literature review and to the best of our knowledge,this is the first report of this *** ampullary tumors are extremely rare,with an incidence of four cases per million population,which is approximately 0.0004%.Distal duodenal polyps are uncommon and have a preponderance of occurring around the ampulla of *** adenoma of the ampulla(AoA)may occur sporadically or with a familial inheritance pattern,as in hereditary genetic polyposis syndrome such as familial adenomatous polyposis syndrome(FAPS).We report a case of a 77-year-old male who was admitted for painless obstructive jaundice with a 40-pound weight loss over a two-month period and who was subsequently diagnosed with two extremely rare primary malignancies,i.e.,an adenocarcinoma of the ampulla arising from a high-grade TVAoA and a high-grade ileal GIST found *** SUMMARY A 77-year-old male was admitted for generalized weakness with an associated weight loss of 40 pounds in the previous two months and was noted to have painless obstructive *** physical examination was benign except for bilateral scleral and palmar *** results were significant for an obstructive pattern on liver *** lipase and carbohydrate antigen-19-9 levels were *** tomography(CT)of the abdomen and pelvis and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography were consistent with a polypoid mass at the level of the common bile duct(CBD)and the ampulla of Vater with CBD *** same lesions were visualized with endoscopic retrograde *** of endoscopic forceps biopsy showed *** of the surgical specimen of the

The emergence of"Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)"caused by the novel coronavirus(COVID-19)had its origin in Wuhan,China,in November-December *** May 27,2021,the pandemic has affected over 220 countries,with 169,094,393 coronavirus cases and 23,512,509 deaths[1].India reported its first case of COVID-19 infection on January 30,2020[2].The rise of COVID-19 cases brought a barrage of many unforeseen problems for cancer patients and health care ***,a robust and systematic policy must be followed for the cancer facility's smooth ***,India has 273,67,935 cases with 3,15,263 deaths as on March 27,2021[3].The second wave in India started from March 2021 and continued till August 2021 with a peak patient peak load of approximately 4 lacks of new cases in early May *** Third wave started in late November 2021 and is still continuing and in weaning *** and Omicron variant were the majority strains during 2nd and 3rd wave respectively.

IGF2 ApaI A/G Polymorphism Evaluated in ESRD Individuals as a Biomarker to Identify Patients with New Onset Diabetes Mellitus after Renal Transplant in Asian Indians

Insulin like growth factors2 (IGF2) regulates pancreatic β-cell renewal and apoptosis, which in turn plays a role in altering insulin activity and glucose homeostasis. Polymorphisms in IGF2 gene have been associated with altered levels of IGF2. Hence, ApaI polymorphism in exon 9 of IGF2 (rs#680) gene was assessed in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) to identify individuals at risk of developing new onset diabetes mellitus (NODM) in Asian Indians. Isolated DNA was used for PCR&RFLP based genotyping of IGF2 ApaI polymorphism which was carried out in 364 individuals these included 140 patients who had undergone renal transplant, 42 of which developed new onset diabetes mellitus after renal transplant and 224 healthy control volunteers. In the present study NODM or post transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) showed a significant association with G allele and AG genotype when compared with the Non-NODM ESRD patients after transplant (OR 2.081, 95% CI = 1.191 - 3.634, p = 0.01 and OR 3.188, 95% CI = 1.498 - 6.785, p = 0.002) ESRD patients with healthy controls also showed an association with G allele and AG genotype (OR 1.512, 95% CI = 1.060 - 2.155, p = 0.02 and OR 2.235, 95% CI = 1.453 - 3.438, p = 0.0002). IGF2 could be used as a biomarker to identify individuals at high risk of developing NODM, it would be a valuable asset in selecting appropriate immunosuppressive regimens for individuals undergoing transplant. Present study shows the importance of IGF2 ApaI polymorphism in assessing the risk of NODM in ESRD individuals in Asian Indians with ESRD.

In this contribution,we reply to comments made by Tkach et *** our publication *** 2023;9:*** main interest of our work is to synthesize a lead-free material,SrTi_(2)O_(5)(STO),and then utilize it in the formation of composites and finally design the piezoelectric nanogenerator(PENG)for self-powered sensor *** authors have observed the presence of piezoelectric voltage and current output from the *** authors humbly indicate that the PENG devices were poled using a DC poling setup as conditions mentioned in *** 2023;9:609(Panda et al.,2023)[1].The doping of STO into the PDMS increased from 2% to 20%(in mass).In this process,the piezoelectric output of the PENG device was observed to be highest for 15%(in mass)STO-PDMS ***,we agree with the comment raised by Tkach et al.,and further we have addressed the issues in a step-by-step response as follows.
