Background:The prevalence of mRSA(methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)colonized wounds in home care residents is expected to grow continuously as a result of the substantial proportion of older people requiring institutionalized care due to chronic disease and declining functional status,which contribute to more frequent skin breakdown and wound *** tree oil has been claimed to have anti-bacterial,analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects that have been suggested in many in-vitro studies to have good efficacy against *** aims of this study were to evaluate the effectiveness of 10%topical tea tree preparation to eradicatemRSA and to ascertain its influence on wound healing formRSA-colonized ***:It was a randomized controlled trial,single-blind *** with stage II or above mRSA-colonized wounds and who had given their informed consent formed the *** determined sample sizewasbasedonthe effect size of our previouspilot study,whichwas *** outcome measurements were taken for the mRSA bacterial count and wound healing condition at baseline and at 1-week intervals during the 4-week dressing intervention ***:Thirty-two participants were recruited from two non-government nursing homes,16 in the control group and 16 in the tea tree oil *** control group residents received routine saline gauze dressing,while the tea tree oil group residents received the 10%topical tea tree preparation *** the tea tree oil group,all chronic wounds that had previously been delayed in healing were healed within 28 days without adverse *** was also completely eradicated in 14(87.5%)out of 16 wounds in the group receiving the 10%topical tea tree preparation.

Since the concept of aptamer emerged,many scientists have launched a rich field of research around ***,few nucleic acids aptamer which use cell as target can be put into practical *** believe that a great deal of this lies in the complexity and irreproducibility of aptamer screening experiments *** complexity is due to the cumbersome processes and the technical requirements for laboratory personnel,whereas irreproducibility arises from the fact that the starting point of such screens is nucleic acid libraries with random fragments,and that different libraries directly determine the differences or even the success or failure of screening *** complexity and irreproducibility mentioned above,in turn,lead to the inability of this experiment to unfold on a large scale,which naturally cannot lead to excellent results for practical *** response to this problem,our group has developed an instrument for automated screening of tumor cell nucleic acid aptamers and characterized the properties of nucleic acid aptamers obtained using this instrument in a comprehensive manner.

homogentisic acid γ-lactone suppresses the virulence factors of Pseudomonas aeruginosa by quenching its quorum sensing signal molecules

Bacterial quorum sensing（QS） molecules are involved in the coordination of certain behaviors such as biofilm formation, virulence and antibiotic resistance. QS molecules（autoinducers） and their corresponding receptors have been recognized as important therapeutic targets for drug-resistant infections and biofilm-associated infections（BAI）. This study assessed the multiple biological effects of homogentisic acid y-lactone（hgAL）, a furanone derivative. The anti-QS and anti-biofilm effects of hgAL against PAO1 strain were evaluated using CLSm, SEm, hPLC and other biochemical methods The results showed that hgAL could effectively inhibit the production of pyocyanin and extracellular matrix, as well as reduce the adherence ability and biofilm formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Inhibition of virulence is attributed to the suppressive effect of hgAL on biosynthesis of 3-oxo-C12-hSLand C4-hSL（two kinds of QS signaling molecules in P. aeruginosa）. Our results support hgAL as a potential agent for prevention of BAI in the healthcare settings.

The widespread adoption of bead-based multiplexed bioassays requires the ability to easily synthesize encoded microspheres and conjugate analytes of interest to their ***,we present a simple method(mRBLEs 2.0)for the efficient high-throughput generation of microspheres with ratiometric barcode lanthanide encoding(mRBLEs)that bear functional groups for downstream surface *** production in mRBLEs 2.0 relies on the manual mixing of lanthanide/polymer mixtures(each of which comprises a unique spectral code)followed by droplet generation using single-layer,parallel flow-focusing devices and the off-chip batch polymerization of droplets into *** streamline downstream analyte coupling,mRBLEs 2.0 crosslinks copolymers bearing functional groups on the bead surface during bead *** the mRBLEs 2.0 pipeline,we generate monodisperse mRBLEs containing 48 distinct well-resolved spectral codes with high throughput(>150,000/min and can be boosted to 450,000/min).We further demonstrate the efficient conjugation of oligonucleotides and entire proteins to carboxyl mRBLEs and of biotin to amino ***,we show that mRBLEs can also be magnetized via the simultaneous incorporation of magnetic nanoparticles with only a minor decrease in the potential code *** the advantages of dramatically simplified device fabrication,elimination of the need for custom-made equipment,and the ability to produce spectrally and magnetically encoded beads with direct surface functionalization with high throughput,mRBLEs 2.0 can be directly applied by many labs towards a wide variety of downstream assays,from basic biology to diagnostics and other translational research.

Sedated vs unsedated colonoscopy:A prospective study

AIm:To compare sedated to unsedated colonoscopy in terms of duration,pain and the patient’s willingness to repeat the ***:Consecutive patients who underwent colonoscopies over a 2-year period were invited to *** patients who were to undergo our endoscopy unit were offered sedation with standard intravenous sedatives and analgesics,or an unsedated colonoscopy was *** details were *** patient anxiety level prior to the procedure,time to reach the cecum,total discharge time,patient and endoscopist pain assessments,satisfaction after the examination and the patient’s willingness to return for the same procedure in the future were ***:Among the 403 observed patients,more males were observed in the unsedated group(66.2%vs 55.2%,P=0.04).Additionally,the unsedated group patients were less anxious prior to the procedure(5.1vs 6.0,Phe colonoscopy completion rates were comparable between the 2 groups(85.9%vs84.2%,P=0.66).The time to reach the cecum was also comparable(12.2 min vs 11.8 min);however,the total discharge times were shorter in the unsedated group(20.7 min vs 83.0 min,Pmoreover,the average patient pain score(3.4 vs 5.7,Phe sedated group,while the satisfaction score(8.8 vs 7.8,Phowever,between the groups in terms of willingness to repeat the procedure if another was required in the future(83.3%vs 77.3%,P=0.17).CONCLUSION:Unsedated colonoscopy is feasible in willing *** option saves the endoscopy units up to one hour per patient and does not affect the patient willingness to return to the same physician again for additional colonoscopies if a repeated procedure is needed.

Background Erythema nodosum can be associated with a number of systemic diseases. There is, however, a paucity of information in the pediatric literature on this condition. The purpose of this article is to familiarize pediatricians with the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of erythema nodosum. Data sources A Pubmed search was completed in Clinical Queries using the key terms 'erythema nodosum'. Results Clinically, erythema nodosum presents with a sudden onset of painful, erythematous, subcutaneous nodules mainly localized to the pretibial areas. Lesions are usually bilateral and symmetrical, ranging from 1 to 5 cm in diameter. Erythema nodosum may be associated with a variety of conditions such as infection, medications, sarcoidosis, pregnancy, inflamma-tory bowel disease, vaccination, autoimmune disease, malignancy, and miscellaneous causes. The condition is idiopathic in approximately 50% of cases. The diagnosis is mainly clinical with biopsy reserved for atypical cases. To evaluate for the underlying cause, some basic laboratory screening studies are worthwhile in most cases and include a complete blood cell count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate and/or C-reactive protein, throat swab culture, antistreptococcal O titers, and a chest radiograph. Other tests should be individualized, guided by the history and physical examination results. most cases of ery-thema nodosum are self-limited and require no treatment. Bed rest and leg elevation are generally recommended to reduce the discomfort. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are the first-line treatment for pain management. Conclusions As erythema nodosum is often a cutaneous manifestation of a systemic disease, a thorough search should be performed to reveal the underlying cause.
