AIM:To determine if the p.esence H p.lori or its viru- lence affect toll-like recep.or 4 (TLR4) and TLR5 mRNA exp.ession levels. METHODS:For the in vivo assays, gastric biop.ies were obtained from 40 p.tients and H p.lori status was determined. For the in vitro assays, human gastric adenocarcinoma mucosal cells (AGS) were cultured in the p.esence or absence of twelve selected H p.lori strains. H p.lori strains isolated from culture-p.sitive p.tients and selected strains were genotyp.d for cagA and vacA. The cDNA was obtained from mRNA extracted from biop.ies and from infected AGS cells. TLR4 and TLR5 mRNA levels were examined by real-time p.R. RESULTS: The p.esence of H p.lori did not affect the mRNA levels of TLR4 or TLR5 in gastric biop.ies. The mRNA levels of both recep.ors were not influenced by the vacA status (p.> 0.05 for both recep.ors) andthere were no differences in TLR4 or TLR5 mRNA levels among the different clinical p.esentations/histological fi ndings (p.> 0.05). In the in vitro assay, the mRNA levels of TLR4 or TLR5 in AGS cells were not influenced by the vacAs1 status or the clinical condition as-sociated with the strains (p.> 0.05 for both TLR4 and TLR5). CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that the mRNA levels of TLR4 and TLR5 in gastric cells, both in vivo and in vitro, are indep.ndent of H p.lori colonization and suggest that vacA may not be a significant p.ayer in the first step.of innate immune recognition mediated by TLR4 or TLR5.

Knowledge and awareness of glaucoma in Mexican p.tients with and without glaucoma diagnosis in an Op.thalmology Referral Center

AIM: To assess and comp.re knowledge and awareness of glaucoma in subjects with and without glaucoma diagnosis attending an Op.thalmology Referral ***: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Asociación p.ra Evitar la Ceguera in Mexico City, using a questionnaire formulated by a group.of exp.rts following the Delp.i p.nel rules, and p.e-tested in a p.lot *** questionnaire was ap.lied and comp.red between:glaucoma p.tients, relatives of glaucoma p.tients and p.tients without glaucoma. Socio-demograp.ic data was collected to assess correlation with the level of knowledge using Logistic regression models, estimating the odds ratios(OR), 95% confidence intervals, and p.***: Three hundred and ninety-four subjects were enrolled;with a median age of 61y. One hundred and thirty-four(34%) were p.tients with glaucoma, 152(38.6%)p.tients without glaucoma, and 108(27.4%) relatives of p.tients with glaucoma. Two hundred and ninety-one(73.9%) p.rticip.nts were aware of the term “glaucoma”.Regarding knowledge 46.7% had moderate knowledge,37.8% had p.or knowledge, and 15.5% good ***, relatives of glaucoma p.tients had the highest scores, and p.tients without glaucoma got the lowest scores. A p.sitive correlation was found between better knowledge and frequent op.thalmological examinations OR 2.24(p.0.02), higher education level OR 4.17(p.0.00) and having a family member with glaucoma OR 3.28(p.0.00).CONCLUSION: Awareness and knowledge of glaucoma in subjects attending an Op.thalmology Referral Center is p.edominantly moderate or p.or. This has imp.rtant imp.ications regarding attitudes that can result in lack of follow up.in op.thalmological care.

Self and Foreign Substances in Organic and Conventional Milk p.oduced in the Eastern Region of Mexico

The objective of the p.esent study was to evaluate the p.ysicochemical p.op.rties, p.esence of water and aflatoxin M1, as well as the effect of the time of year (dry or rainy season) to value the quality and safety of conventional and organic raw milk samp.es. Samp.es were collected of conventional (n = 12) and organic (n = 11) raw milk from Tizayuca, Hidalgo and from Tuxp.n, Veracruz, resp.ctively. Infrared sp.ctrop.otometry and other analytical techniques were emp.oyed, ap.roved by the International Dairy Federation for the analysis of the p.ysicochemical p.op.rties, the cryoscop. technique for the detection of water addition, and high p.rformance liquid chromatograp.y for the determination of aflatoxin M1. Results showed that there are no significant differences in the comp.nents of conventional milk in the season of the year, whereas in organic milk a significant difference (p.0.05) was observed in acidity during the seasons of the year (rainy and dry), as well as a decrease in the p.rcentage of lactose in the dry season, with a significant difference (p.0.05). The means of the cryoscop.c p.int of the milk samp.es comp.ied with the limits established in the Mexican Official Norm (–0.530, –0.560°H) for milk and no effect was found of the time of year on this variable. Of the milk samp.es, 50% of the conventional milk and 54.55% of organic milk were above the maximum limits p.rmitted for aflatoxin M1, established in Mexico (0.5 μg·Kg-1).

Background The p.sitive influence of most typ.s of exercise has been rep.rted rep.atedly,but what the most effective exercise ap.roaches are for imp.oving health-related quality of life(HRQoL)in p.op.e with cancer remains *** aim of this systematic review and network meta-analysis was to synthesize the evidence from intervention studies to assess the effects of different typ.s of exercise on HRQoL during and after cancer *** MEDLINE,Sp.RTDiscus,the Cochrane Library,Web of Science,and Scop.s were searched for randomized controlled trials aimed at testing the effects of exercise interventions meant to imp.ove HRQoL in p.op.e with *** analyses were conducted for HRQoL as measured by general and cancer-sp.cific *** also evaluated whether the effects of exercise were different during and after cancer treatment in both the p.ysical and mental HRQoL *** In total,93 studies involving 7435 p.op.e with cancer were *** effect size estimates comp.ring exercise intervention *** care were significant for combined exercise(0.35,95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.14–0.56)for HRQoL as measured by general questionnaires,and for combined(0.31,95%CI:0.13–0.48),mind–body exercise(0.54,95%CI:0.18–0.89),and walking(0.39,95%CI:0.04–0.74)for HRQoL as measured by cancer-sp.cific *** Exercise p.ograms combining aerobic and resistance training can be recommended to imp.ove HRQoL during and after cancer *** scarcity and heterogeneity of these studies p.events us from making recommendations about other exercise modalities due to insufficient evidence.

AIM： To study the role of gram-p.sitive and gram-negative bacteria in the p.thogenesis of liver injury, sp.cifically the activation of inflammatory mediators. METHODS： p.rip.eral blood mononuclear cells of 20 out-p.tients were studied, 10 of them with cirrhosis,p.rip.eral blood mononuclear cells were isolated and exp.sed to lip.p.lysaccharide or lip.teichoic acid. CD14, Toll-like recep.or 2 and 4 exp.ession was determined by flow cytometry, and tumor necrosis factor （TNF） α, interleukin （1L）-1β, IL-6, IL-12 and IL-10 secretion in su- p.rnatants was determined by ELISA. RESULTS： Higher CD14, Toll-like recep.or 2 and 4 exp.ession was observed in p.rip.eral blood mononudear cells from cirrhotic p.tients, （p.〈 0.01, p.〈 0.006, p.〈 0.111） resp.ctively. Lip.p.lysaccharide and lip.teichoic acid induced a further increase in CD14 exp.ession （p.〈 0.111 lip.p.lysaccharide, p.〈 0.013 lip.teichoic acid）, and a decrease in Toll-like recep.or 2 （p.〈 0.008 lip.p.lysaccharide, p.〈 0.008 lip.teichoic acid） and Toll-like recep.or 4 （p.〈 0.008 lip.p.lysaccharide, p.〈 0.028 li- p.teichoic acid） exp.ession. With the excep.ion of TNFα, absolute cytokine secretion of p.rip.eral blood mononuclear cells was lower in cirrhotic p.tients under nonexp.sure conditions （p.〈 0.070 IL-6, p.〈 0.009 IL-1]5, p.〈 0.022 IL-12）. Once exp.sed to lip.p.lysaccharide or lip.teichoic acid, absolute cytokine secretion of p.rip.eral blood mononuclear cells was similar in cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic p.tients, determining a more vigorous resp.nse in the former （p.〈 0.005 TNFα, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-2 and IL-10 lip.p.lysaccharide; p.〈 0.037 TNFα; p.〈 0.006 IL-113; p.〈 0.005 IL-6; p.〈 0.007 IL-12; p.〈 0.014 IL-10 lip.teichoic acid）. Background： The p.esent work investigated the influence of lignin content and comp.sition in the fungal treatment of lignocellulosic biomass in order to imp.ove rumen degradability. Wheat straw and wood chip.,differing in lignin comp.sition, were treated with Lentinula edodes for 0, 2, 4, 8 and 12 wk and the changes occurring during fungal degradation were analyzed using p.rolysis-gas chromatograp.y-mass sp.ctrometry and detergent fiber ***： L. edodes p.eferentially degraded lignin, with only limited cellulose degradation, in wheat straw and wood chip., leaving a substrate enriched in cellulose. Syringyl（S）-lignin units were p.eferentially degraded than guaiacyl（G）-lignin units, resulting in a decreased S/G ratio. A decreasing S/G ratio（wheat straw： r =-0.72, wood chip.： r =-0.75） and selective lignin degradation（wheat straw： r =-0.69, wood chip.： r =-0.88） were correlated with in vitro gas p.oduction（IVGp., a good indicator for rumen ***： L. edodes treatment increased the IVGp.of wheat straw and wood chip.. Effects on IVGp.were similar for wheat straw and wood chip. indicating that lignin content and 3D-structure of cell walls influence in vitro rumen degradability more than lignin comp.sition.

Aims Mechanisms of p.ant drought resistance include both tolerance and *** vulnerability to embolism and turgor loss p.int are considered traits that confer tolerance,while leaf abscission and deciduousness characterizes the avoidance *** these mechanisms are thought to trade-off exp.essing a continuum among sp.cies,little is known on how variation in the timing and duration of leaf shedding in resp.nse to drought affect the relationship.between xylem and leaf *** the p.esent study,we exp.ored the extent to which drought tolerance differs between two oak(Quercus)sp.cies that exhibit different leaf shedding ***,we p.edicted that *** Trel.,which loses leaves at the end of the dry season(late-deciduous)and is thus exp.sed to a greater risk of cavitation,would be more drought tolerant and more conservative in its water use than *** Liebm.,which loses its leaves for only a short p.riod of time in the middle of the dry season(brevideciduous).Methods The study was conducted in central Mexico in a single p.p.lation of each of the two oak sp.cies,sep.rated from each other by a distance of 1.58 km,and by an altitudinal difference of 191 *** deserticola(late deciduous)is more frequent down slop.,while ***(brevideciduous)tends to occur at higher elevations along the *** assessed seasonal differences(rainy versus dry season)in native stem hydraulic conductivity,and tested for variation in xylem vulnerability to cavitation,leaf water use and leaf turgor loss p.int between the two *** Findings The two oak sp.cies did not differ in traits conferring drought tolerance,including xylem vulnerability to embolism,leaf turgor loss p.int,or stomatal ***,both sp.cies had different p.rformance during the dry season;the brevideciduous sp.cies had lower negative imp.ct in the xylem function than the late-deciduous ***,seasonal changes in p.ant p.ysiological p.rformance
