BACKGROUND Approximately 20 percent of patients with a tumour localized in the low rectum still encounter the possibility of requiring permanent stoma(PS), which can cause drastic changes in lifestyle and physical *** To determine the risk factors for PS and to develop a prediction model to predict the probability of PS in rectal cancer patients after sphincter-saving *** A retrospective cohort of 421 rectal cancer patients who underwent radical surgery at Taipei Medical University Hospital between January 2012 and December 2020 was included in this study. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify the independent risk factors for PS. A nomogram was developed according to the independent risk factors obtained in the multivariate analysis. The performance of the nomogram was assessed using a receiver operating characteristic curve and a calibration *** The PS rate after sphincter-saving surgery was 15.1%(59/391) in our study after a median follow-up of 47.3 mo(range 7–114 mo). Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that local recurrence, perirectal abscess, anastomosis site stenosis, perineural invasion, tumor size and operative time were independent risk factors for PS. These identified risk factors were incorporated into the nomogram, and the concordance index of this model was 0.903(95%CI: 0.851-0.955). According to the calibration curves, the nomogram represents a perfect prediction *** Several risk factors for PS after sphincter-saving surgery were identified. Our nomogram exhibited perfect predictive ability and will improve a physician’s ability to communicate the benefits and risks of various treatment options in shared decision making.

BACKGROUND Burnout,musculoskeletal pain,and sharps injuries(SIs)affect medical *** To establish a model between SIs,burnout,and the risk factors to assess the extent to which burnout affects *** This questionnaire was used for an observational and cross-sectional study,which was based on members at a hospital affiliated with a medical university in Taichung,Taiwan,in *** valid responses constituted 68.5%(1734 of 2531).The items were drawn from the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and Copenhagen burnout inventory and concerned work experience,occupational category,presence of chronic diseases,sleep duration,overtime work,and work *** analysis,chi-square test,Fisher exact test,Multiple linear,logistic regression and Sobel test were *** present analyses were performed using SAS Enterprise Guide 6.1 software(SAS Institute Inc.,Cary,NC,United States),and significance was set at P Q3) and highwork-related burnout (> Q3) mediated the relationship between SIs and frequentlower limb pain. A 64-year-old female patient presented with upper ab-dominal pain and vomiting. Ultrasonography showed a hyperechoic mass in the right lower abdomen and computed tomography showed a low-density mass with intestinal invagination. An emergency laparo-scopic right-hemicolectomy was performed, and the resected specimen was found to contain three tumors, which were identified histopathologically as intestinal lipomas. Adult intussusception is relatively rare and difficult to be diagnosed, since most symptoms of adult intussusception are nonspecific. We report our clinical experience of the diagnosis and emergent laparoscopic surgery for an adult patient with intussusception.

AIM:To evaluate the visual outcomes of standard amblyopic treatment add-on training via perceptual learning in refractive amblyopic children and to identify the risk factors for treatment ***:Retrospective charts were reviewed in children with refractive amblyopia who received standard treatment and add-on Cambridge Visual Stimulator(CAM)*** add-on CAM group that was enrolled had worn full-corrected glasses for at least 2mo before training.A control group received only the standard *** success was defined as best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA)≥20/*** age,sex,initial BCVA,refractive errors,sessions and duration of training,and final BCVA were ***:A total of 209 children(129 children in add-on CAM group and 80 children in control group)were ***-six percent of unilateral and 87%of bilateral amblyopic children achieved treatment *** children with unilateral or bilateral moderate amblyopia,the duration to reach BCVA≥20/25 was significantly shorter in add-on CAM group than in control *** initial BCVA(P<0.001)and high astigmatism(P=0.007)were risk factors for treatment failure after add-on CAM ***,sex,and types of refractive error were not associated with treatment ***:Add-on CAM training is an effective strategy for visual improvement and can shorten the treatment course when the effect of standard treatment is limited in amblyopic children.

Biaxially oriented polypropylene(BOPP)is one of the most commonly used commercial capacitor films,but its upper operating temperature is below 105℃due to the sharply increased electrical conduction loss at high *** this study,growing an inorganic nanoscale coating layer onto the BOPP film's surface is proposed to suppress electrical conduction loss at high temperature,as well as increase its upper operating *** kinds of inorganic coating layers that have different energy band structure and dielectric property are grown onto the both surface of BOPP films,*** effect of inorganic coating layer on the high-temperature energy storage performance has been systematically *** favorable coating layer materials and appropriate thickness enable the BOPP films to have a significant improvement in high-temperature energy storage ***,when the aluminum nitride(AIN)acts as a coating layer,the AIN-BOPP-AIN sandwich-structured films possess a discharged energy density of 1.5 J cm^(-3)with an efficiency of 90%at 125℃,accompanying an outstandingly cyclic *** the discharged energy density and operation temperature are significantly enhanced,indicating that this efficient and facile method provides an important reference to improve the high-temperature energy storage performance of polymer-based dielectric films.
