The controversial outcomes in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC)highlight the need for developing effective systemic neoadjuvant treatment strategies to improve clinical *** optimal treatment cycles in patients with mCRC for metastasectomy remain undeﬁ*** retrospective study compared the efﬁcacy,safety,and survival of cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy/targeted therapy for such ***-four patients with mCRC who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy/targeted therapy following metastasectomy were enrolled between January 2018 and April ***-eight patients received 6 cycles of chemotherapy/targeted therapy,whereas 36 patients received≥7 cycles(median,13;range,7–20).Clinical outcomes,including response,progression-free survival(PFS),overall survival(OS),and adverse events,were compared between these two *** the 64 patients,47(73.4%)were included in the response group,and 17(26.6%)were included in the nonresponse *** analysis revealed chemotherapy/targeted therapy cycle and pretreatment serum carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)level as independent predictors of the response as well as overall survival and chemotherapy/targeted therapy cycle as an independent predictor of progression(all pponse rate,lower progression rate,and higher survival rate in≥7 cycles of chemotherapy/targeted therapy group(all p0.05).The median OS and PFS were 48 months(95%CI,40.855–55.145)and 28 months(95%CI,18.952–37.48)in the≥7-cycle group and 24 months(95%CI,22.038–25.962)and 13 months(95%CI,11.674–14.326)in the 6-cycle group,respectively(both p<0.001).The oncological outcomes in the≥7-cycle group were signiﬁcantly better than those in the 6-cycle group,without signiﬁcant increases in adverse ***,prospective randomized trials are mand

Abstract:Background:The pTNM staging system is widely recognized as the most effective prognostic indicator for *** latest update of this staging system introduced a new pathological staging system(ypTNM)for patients receiving neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy(NACRT).However,whether the prognostic value of the ypTNM staging system for rectal cancer is similar to that of the pTNM staging system remains *** study was conducted to compare the ypTNM and pTNM staging systems in terms of their prognostic value for patients with nonmetastatic rectal cancer undergoing *** and Methods:This study was conducted at a large teaching *** January 2014 and December 2022,542 patients with rectal cancer were analyzed(median follow-up period,60 months;range,6–105 months).Of them,258 and 284 were included in the pTNM and ypTNM groups,*** probability of treatment weighting(IPTW)was performed to account for the effects of *** proportional-hazards regression was performed for the between-group comparison of overall survival(OS).Results:The crude model revealed that OS was similar between the two groups(p=0.607).After performing IPTW,we found that patients with the same ypTNM-and pTNM-classified stages had similar overall survival(hazard ratio=1.15;95%CI=0.76–1.73;p=0.5074).Conclusions:For patients with rectal cancer who have received preoperative NACRT,the prognostic value of ypTNM staging appears to be similar to that of pTNM staging,mostly because of the downstaging effect of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy。

Transition metal sulfides have great potential as anode mterials for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)due to their high theoretical specific ***,the inferior intrinsic conductivity and large volume variation during sodiation-desodiation processes seriously affect its high-rate and long-cyde performance,unbeneficial for the application as fast-charging and long-cycling SIBs ***,the three-dimensional porous Cu_(1.81)S/nitrogen-doped carbon frameworks(Cu_(1.81)S/NC)are synthesized by the simple and facile sol-gel and annealing processes,which can accommodate the volumetric expansion of Cu_(1.81)S nanoparticles and accelerate the transmission of ions and electrons during Na^(+)insertion/extraction processes,exhibiting the excellent rate capability(250.6 mA·g^(-1)at 20.0 A·g^(-1))and outstanding cycling stability(70% capacity retention for 6000 cycles at 10.0 A·g^(-1))for ***,the Na-ion full cells coupled with Na_(3)V_(2)(po_(4))_(3)/C cathode also demonstrate the satisfactory reversible specific capacity of 330.5 mAh·g^(-1)at 5.0 A·g^(-1)and long-cycle performance with the 86.9% capacity retention at 2.0 A·g^(-1)after 750 *** work proposes a promising way for the conversionbased metal sulfides for the applications as fast-charging sodium-ion battery anode.

Improved treatments for evaluating horizontal magnetic components through the 3-D FDM in E-polarization induction problems

To improve the accuracy of the numerical evaluation through the 3-D finite difference method, the surface boundary conditions are added to modify the old program. The author has tested the new program by making calculations for the model constructed by Wanamaker, et al (1984). The comparison between the numerical results obtained from this paper and those by Wannamaker, et al (1984) indicates that a pronounced improvement is realized in the evaluation of the horizontal magnetic components. Moreover, better calculations for the vertical magnetic components are also obtainable by using the new program.

Adsorption of fluorescently labeled DNA and aptamer probes to graphene oxide(GO)has been one of the most popular methods for developing *** the presence of target analytes,the quenched fluorescence would *** this work,we followed the kinetics of the reactions and found that the fluorescence would eventually drop after an initial increase,and this was attributed to the re-adsorption of the desorbed probe DNA *** a DNA probe and an aptamer for adenosine were *** re-adsorption was attributed to the surface heterogeneity of GO,and the DNA probes desorbed from relatively weaker binding sites were re-adsorbed on the stronger binding *** re-adsorption can be avoided by extensive washing the samples,and also by blocking the GO surface or by *** fundamental understanding is important for achieving a stable signal of such biosensors.

Spinal giant cell-rich osteosarcoma-diagnostic dilemma and treatment strategy:A case report

BACKGROUND Giant cell-rich osteosarcoma(GCRO) is a rare histological variant of osteosarcoma. Spinal GCROs are extremely rare, with challenging diagnosis and management. Herein, we present a case of spinal GCRO at T2, which was not diagnosed in initial biopsy but after T2 corpectomy. We detailed the clinical course, management strategy, and outcome after a 4-year *** SUMMARY A 17-year-old female patient presented with back pain followed by ascending paresthesia. Spinal computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) revealed a collapsed T2 vertebra with an enhancing osteolytic mass. CTguided biopsy showed inconclusive morphology. Pathology from T2 corpectomy revealed GCRO. The patient subsequently received neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by salvage operation of T2 costotransversectomy with grossly-total resection adjuvant chemoradiation. Upon treatment completion, she had complete GCRO remission. The 4-year follow-up spinal MRI showed no tumor *** Spinal GCRO poses unique challenges in obtaining sufficient tissue diagnosis and complete surgical removal. However, long-term local control of spinal GCRO is possible following complete resection and adjuvant chemoradiation.

Hybrid Silicon-Carbon Nanostructured Composites as Superior Anodes for Lithium Ion Batteries

We have successfully fabricated a hybrid silicon-carbon nanostructured composite with large area （about 25.5 in^2） in a simple fashion using a conventional sputtering system. When used as the anode in lithium ion batteries, the uniformly deposited amorphous silicon （a-Si） works as the active material to store electrical energy, and the pre-coated carbon nanofibers （CNFs） serve as both the electron conducting pathway and a strain/stress relaxation layer for the sputtered a-Si layers during the intercalation process of lithium ions. As a result, the as-fabricated lithium ion batteries, with deposited a-Si thicknesses of 200 nm or 300 nm, not only exhibit a high specific capacity of 〉2000 mA.h/g, but also show a good capacity retention of over 80% and Coulombic efficiency of 〉98% after a large number of charge/discharge experiments. Our approach offers an efficient and scalable method to obtain silicon-carbon nanostructured composites for application in lithium ion batteries.

Distinguish models mimicking the SM Higgs

The new particle around 125 GeV observed at the LHC is almost consistent with the standard model Higgs boson, except that the diphoton decay mode may be excessive. We summarize a number of possibilities. We propose to use the vector-boson fusion to test the underlying model for electroweak symmetry breaking. Using the well known dijet-tagging technique to single out the vector-boson fusion mechanism, we investigate potential of vector-boson fusion to discriminate a number of models suggested to give an enhanced inclusive diphoton production rate.

Associations between walking parameters and subsequent sleep difficulty in older adults: A 2-year follow-up study

Purpose: This 2-year follow-up study aimed to examine the associations between total volume, frequency, duration, and speed of walking with subsequent sleep difficulty in older ***: A total of 800 older adults aged 65 years and over participated in the first survey in 2012 and 511 of them were followed 2 years *** 5-item Athens Insomnia Scale(AIS-5) was used to measure sleep difficulty. Frequency, duration, and speed of outdoor walking were self-reported. Walking speed was assigned a metabolic equivalent value(MET) from 2.5 to 4.5. Total walking volume in MET-h/week was calculated as frequency × duration × speed. Negative binomial regressions were performed to examine the associations between volume and components of walking with subsequent sleep difficulty with covariates of age, sex, education, marital status, living arrangement, smoking, alcohol consumption, mental health, Charlson Index, exercise(excluding walking), and sleep difficulty at ***: Participants with low walking volume had a higher level of sleep difficulty 2 years later compared with those with high walking volume(incident rate ratios = 1.61, p = 0.004). When speed, frequency, and duration of walking were simultaneously entered into 1 model, only walking speed was significantly associated with subsequent sleep difficulty(after the model was adjusted for covariates and baseline sleep difficulty).Sensitivity analyses showed that walking duration emerged as a significant predictor among 3 walking parameters, with 2-year changes of sleep scores as dependent ***: Total amount of walking(especially faster walking and lasting for more than 20 min) is associated with less subsequent sleep difficulty after 2 years among older adults.

Full-3D, Full-Wave Seismic Tomography for Crustal Structure in Southern California, USA

Southern California is one region where the seismic hazard is high and the subsurface geological structure is complex. Three-dimensional structural heterogeneities, in particular, thick sedimentary basins,can have significant influence on the ground motion generated by disastrous earthquakes. To better quantify seismic hazards in Southern California, we need to improve our three-dimensional seismic structure model of the subsurface.
