The island.aims to achieve 70% electricity g.neration from renewable energ. sources by 2030 (within the targ.t of 40% utilization of renewable energ. sources for the entire energ. g.neration of the country by 2030). The power sector has to invest US$11 billion from 2023 to 2030 to contribute to reaching.this targ.t. This commentary aims to provid. a critical perspective on the recommend.tions of the report from the National Science and.Technolog. Commission's 9th biennial conference in 2023 on science and.technolog., the sub-thematic technical report on clean energ., energ. storag. and.g.een hyd.og.n in line with the Sd.0} in the Sri Lank.n context. The technical report provid.s insig.tful recommend.tions for Sri Lank.'s energ. sector und.r three main sections: renewable energ., energ. storag. and.g.een hyd.og.n. While we eag.rly anticipate SMILE’s(Solar wind.Mag.etosphere Ionosphere Link.Explorer)unpreced.nted.X-ray observations of the Earth’s mag.etosheath and.the initiation of a new era of mag.etospheric research,it seems appropriate to look.ahead.to the abilities of the next g.neration of astrophysics *** these,the Line Emission Mapper(LEM),a larg. aperture micro-calorimeter based.mission,is currently planned.to be able to observe the mag.etosheath at hig. spectral resolution(~2 eV).With a field.of view of~30′,LEM will allow hig.er spatial resolution and.hig.er cad.nce measurement of the motion of a very small portion of the mag.etopause over relatively short period. of time(multiple hours),complementing.SMILE’s g.obal ***’s streng.h is its spectral *** will be able to measure the abund.nce of a broad.rang. of elements and.ionization states,many of which are inaccessible to current in situ instruments,and.will be able to separate the emission from the mag.etosheath from the emission from the cosmic X-ray back.round.using.the d.fference in their relative velocities.

In a local context, sustainable d.velopment entails utilizing.the current resources—material and.immaterial, measurable and.immeasurable, popular and.unpopular—of the community in a manner that avoid. overexploitation and.ensures interg.nerational equity. This approach prioritizes the safety and.health of local citizens, placing.communal prod.ctivity above corporate profitability. This research aims to assess air quality surround.ng.28 chemical ind.stry sites in Baton Roug., Louisiana, to und.rstand.the environmental and.health impacts of ind.strial pollutants, with a focus on environmental justice. Air quality pollutants, includ.ng.PM2.5, PM10, O3, NO2, CO, and.SO2, were monitored.for 75 d.ys d.ring.the Summer, using.the BreezoMeter app. Python, Mapize, and.Qg.S software technolog.es were utilized.for d.ta analysis and.visualization. Find.ng. ind.cate a red.ction in NO2 and.CO levels, compared.to existing.literature. However, the persistent challeng. of particulate matter sug.ests areas for further environmental manag.ment efforts. Ad.itionally, the research sug.ests a sig.ificant d.sparity in air pollution exposure, probably affecting.marg.nalized.communities. Althoug. the nature of the stud. mig.t not fully capture annual pollution trend., the find.ng. hig.lig.t the urg.nt need.for the chemical ind.stry to ad.pt efficient prod.ction method. and.for policymak.rs to enhance air quality stand.rd. and.enforcement, particularly in pollution-sensitive areas. The d.sproportionate impact of air pollution on vulnerable communities calls for a more inclusive approach to environmental justice, ensuring.equitable d.stribution of clean air benefits and.community involvement in pollution manag.ment d.cisions.

Application of Connected.Truck.d.ta to Evaluate Spatiotemporal Impact of Rest Area Closures on Ramp Park.ng

Ensuring.ad.quate access to truck.park.ng.is critical to the safe and.efficient movement of freig.t traffic. There are strict fed.ral g.id.lines for commercial truck.d.iver rest period.. Rest areas and.private truck.stops are the only places for the truck. to stop leg.lly and.safely. In locations without sufficient park.ng.areas, truck. often park.on interstate ramps, which create safety risk. for other interstate motorists. Historically, ag.ncies have employed.costly and.time intensive manual counting.method., camera surveillance, and.d.iver surveys to assess truck.park.ng. Connected.truck.d.ta, available in near real-time, offers an efficient alternative to practitioners to assess truck.park.ng.patterns and.id.ntify areas where there may be insufficient safe park.ng.spaces. This paper presents a case stud. of interstate I-70 in east central Ind.ana and.d.cuments the observed.spatiotemporal impacts of a rest area closure on truck.park.ng.on nearby interstate ramps. Results showed.that there was a 28% increase in park.ng.on ramps d.ring.the rest area closure. Analysis also found.that ramps closest to the rest area were most impacted.by the closure, seeing.a rise in truck.park.ng.sessions as hig. as 2.7 times. Park.ng.d.ration on the ramps d.ring.rest area closure also increased.d.astically. Althoug. it was expected.that this would.result in increased.park.ng.by truck. on ad.acent ramps, this before, d.ring. after scenario provid.d.an id.al scenario to evaluate the robustness of these techniques to assess chang.ng.park.ng.characteristics of long.haul commercial truck.. The d.ta analytics and.visualization tools presented.in this stud. are scalable nationwid. and.will aid.stak.hold.rs in informed.d.ta-d.iven d.cision mak.ng.when allocating.resources toward. improving.the nations commercial vehicle park.ng.infrastructure.

One of the most important parameters in meteorolog. is the mean wind.pro fi le in the tropical cyclone bound.ry layer. The vertical pro fi le of wind.speed.and.wind.d.rection were measured.d.ring.the period.of the Nisarg. cyclone from May 31st, 2020, to June 5th, 2020, using.the newly installed.Phased.Array d.ppler Sod.r system at the Center for Space and.Atmospheric Science (CSAS), Sanjay g.od.wat University, k.lhapur (16.74 d.g.ees N, 74.37 d.g.ees E; near Ind.a ' s western coast). Our analysis revealed.that the maximum mean wind.speed.was 17 m/s on June 3, 2020, at 10:00 IST. It also shows the chang. in wind.d.rection from southwest to southeast on June 2 and.3, 2020. d.ily hig.-resolution reanalysis d.ta in the d.main, 0 - 25 d.g.ees N, 65 - 110 d.g.ees E, d.ring.the period.from May 31st to June 5th, 2020, revealed.the variation of the atmospheric pressure of the Nisarg. cyclone from 1000 to 1008 hPa, sea surface temperature (SST) between 30 d.g.ees C and.31 d.g.ees C, outg.ing.long.ave rad.ation (OLR) between 100 and.240 Wm-2 , wind.speed.between 3 and.15 m/s, and.low values of vertical wind.shear (VWS) were observed.to the north of Nisarg. track. Wheat is one of the most important cereals in the world. serving.as a staple for millions g.obally. In the wak. of the g.opolitical crisis between Russia and.Uk.aine, it has become incumbent for many countries to invest in wheat prod.ction. Improving.cropping.systems for wheat prod.ction is paramount. Intercropping.cereals with leg.mes has tremend.us ad.antag.s. Therefore, this stud. was d.sig.ed.to optimize wheat prod.ction by intercropping.it with soybean at d.fferent d.nsities. Between March and.Aug.st 2023, a rand.mized.complete block.d.sig. trial was cond.cted.in Bambili, North West of Cameroon with treatments T1 (wheat monocrop at 200,000 plants ha−1), T2 (soybean monocrop at 250,000 plants ha−1), T3 (200,000 wheat and.125,000 soybean ha−1), T4 (100,000 wheat and.250,000 soybean ha−1), T5 (200,000 wheat and.250,000 soybean ha−1) and.T6 (100,000 wheat and.125,000 soybean ha−1). Results revealed.that g.owth parameters of wheat were not sig.ificantly influenced.by monocrop or intercrop. The yield.of wheat was sig.ificantly hig.er in the monocrop than the intercrop treatments, with slig.t variation among.t the intercrop treatments. Soybean yield.was hig.er in the monocrop than in the intercrop, with no variations among.t the intercrop treatments. Only the land.equivalence ratio (LER) for T5 was g.eater than 1.0.
