Excitation and Detection of Shear Horizontal Waves with Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducers for Nondestructive Testing of Plates

The fundamental shear horizontal（SH0） wave has several unique features that are attractive for long-range nondestructive testing（NDT）. By a careful design of the geometric configuration, electromagnetic acoustic transducers（EMATs） have the capability to generate a wide range of guided wave modes, such as Lamb waves and shear-horizontal（SH） waves in plates. However, the performance of EMATs is influenced by their parameters. To evaluate the performance of periodic permanent magnet（PPM） EMATs, a distributed-line-source model is developed to calculate the angular acoustic field cross-section in the far-field. Numerical analysis is conducted to investigate the performance of such EMATs with different geometric parameters, such as period and number of magnet arrays, and inner and outer coil widths. Such parameters have a great influence on the directivity of the generated SH0 waves that arises mainly in the amplitude and width of both main and side lobes. According to the numerical analysis, these parameters are optimized to obtain better directivity. Optimized PPM EMATs are designed and used for NDT of strip plates. Experimental results show that the lateral boundary of the strip plate has no perceivable influence on SHO-wave propagation, thus validating their used in NDT. The proposed model predicts the radiation pattern ofPPM EMATs, and can be used for their parameter optimization.

Traditional topology optimization methods often suffer from the“dimension curse”problem,wherein the com-putation time increases exponentially with the degrees of freedom in the background *** this challenge,we introduce a real-time topology optimization approach leveraging Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks with Gradient Penalty(CGAN-GP).This innovative method allows for nearly instantaneous prediction of optimized *** a specific boundary condition,the network can produce a unique optimized structure in a one-to-one *** process begins by establishing a dataset using simulation data generated through the Solid Isotropic Material with Penalization(SIMP)***,we design a conditional generative adversarial network and train it to generate optimized *** further enhance the quality of the optimized structures produced by CGAN-GP,we incorporate *** augmentation results in sharper topologies,yielding structures with enhanced clarity,de-blurring,and edge *** proposed method yields a significant reduction in computational time when compared to traditional topology optimization algorithms,all while maintaining an impressive accuracy rate of up to 85%,as demonstrated through numerical examples.

Microstructural evolution and performance of carbon fiber-toughened ZrB_2 ceramics with SiC or ZrSi_2 additive

ZrB_2–SiC/ZrSi_2 ceramics containing 30 vol% carbon fiber(Cf) additive were fabricated by hot pressing at low temperature(1500 ℃) using submicron ZrB_2 powders, and their microstructural evolution and performance were investigated. The addition of SiC or ZrSi_2 significantly reduced the onset sintering temperature and enhanced the densification of ZrB_2. ZrB_2–ZrSi_2–Cf showed poor performance owing to the serious fiber degradation, while the fiber degradation was effectively inhibited in ZrB_2–SiC–Cf resulting in high fracture toughness, substantial fiber pull-out, and non-brittle fracture mode for such material. The critical thermal shock temperature difference of ZrB_2–SiC–Cf was up to 741 ℃, significantly higher than those of ZrB_2–SiC/ZrSi_2 and ZrB_2–ZrSi_2–Cf. Moreover, this composite displayed a good oxidation resistance at 1500 ℃ in air.

ZrB2-SiC-Cf composites containing 20-50 vol％ short carbon fibers were hot pressed at low sintering temperature (1450 ℃) using nanosized ZrB2 powders,in which the fiber degradation was effectively *** strain-to-failure values of such composites increased with increasing fiber content,and the value for the composite with 50 vol％ Cf was even more than 3 times higher than that of the composite with 20 vol％ ***,the composite exhibited non-brittle fracture mode when the fiber content was above 30 vol％,and the thermal shock critical temperature difference of the composite with 30 vol％ Cf was up to 727 ℃,revealing excellent thermal shock resistance of this ***,ZrB2-Sic-Cf composites displayed good oxidation resistance when the fiber content was below 40 vol％,suggesting that this method provides a promising way for preparation of high-performance ZrB2-SiC-Cf composites at low temperature.

The effects of strain, strain rate and temperature on the mechanical behavior of 22MnB5 boron steel deformed isothermally under uniaxial tension tests and the experimental characterization of 22MnB5 boron steel in the austenitic region have been investigated. Based on the crystal plasticity theory and thermal kinematics, an improved integration model is presented. In this model, the elastic deformation gradient is the integration variable of the governing equation, which contains not only the elastic deformation but also the thermal effects. In the coupled thermo- mechanical process, this model can reveal the evolution of microstructures such as the rotation of a single crystal and the slip systems in each of them. The plastic behavior of the boron steel can be well described by the presented model.

Superluminous supernovae(SLSNe)are a class of intense celestial events that can be standardized for measuring cosmological parameters,bridging the gap between type Ia supernovae and the cosmic microwave *** this work,we discuss the cosmological applications of SLSNe from the Chinese Space Station Telescope(CSST).Our estimation suggests that SLSNe rate is biased tracing the cosmic star formation rate,exhibiting a factor of(1+z)^(1.2).We futher predict that CSST is poised to observe~360 SLSNe in the 10 square degrees ultra-deep field survey within a span of 2.5 years.A stringent constraint on cosmological parameters can be derived from their peak-color *** is anticipated to uncover a substantial number of SLSNe,contributing to a deeper understanding of their central engines and shedding light on the nature of dark energy at high redshifts.

Microstructure Evolution of a 10Cr Heat-Resistant Steel during High Temperature Creep

The microstructure evolution of a 10Cr ferritic/martensitic heat-resistant steel during creep at 600℃ was investigated in this work. Creep tests demonstrated that the 10Cr steel had higher creep strength than conventional ASME-P92 steel at 600℃. The rnicrostructure after creep was studied by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis. It was revealed that the martensitic laths were coarsened with time and eventually developed into subgrains after 8354 h. Laves phase was observed to grow and cluster along the prior austenite grain boundaries during creep and caused the fluctuation of solution and precipitation strengthening effects, which was responsible for the two slope changes on the creep rupture strength vs rupture time curve. It was also revealed that the microstructure evolution could be accelerated by stress, which resulted in the lower hardness in the deformed part of the creep specimen, compared with the aging part.
