Mucosal healing effect of nilotinib in indomethacin-induced enterocolitis:A rat model

AIM: To investigate the effects of nilotinib in a rat model of indomethacin-induced ***: Twenty-one Wistar albino female rats obtained from Dokuz Eylul University Department of Laboratory Animal Science were divided into the following three groups: control(n = 7), indomethacin(n = 7) and nilotinib(n = 7). A volume of 0.25 m L of physiological serum placebo was administered to the control and indomethacin groups through an orogastric tube for 13 d. To induce enterocolitis, the indomethacin and nilotinib groups received 7.5 m L/kg indomethacin dissolved in 5% sodium bicarbonate and administered subcutaneously in a volume of 0.5 m L twice daily for three days. Nilotinib was administered 20 mg/kg/d in two divided doses to the nilotinib group of rats for 13 d through an orogastric tube, beginning on the same day as indomethacin administration. For 13 d, the rats werefed a standard diet, and their weights were monitored daily. After the rats were sacrificed, the intestinal and colonic tissue samples were examined. The macroscopic and microscopic pathology scores were evaluated. The pathologist stained all tissue samples using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated d UTP-biotin nick-end labeling method. Mucosal crypts and apoptotic cells were quantified. The plateletderived growth factor receptor(PDGFR) α and β scores assessed by immunohistochemical staining method and tissue and serum tumor necrosis factor(TNF) α levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: Between days 1 and 13, the rats in the nilotinib and indomethacin groups lost significantly more weight than the controls(-11 g vs +14.14 g, P = 0.013;-30 g vs +14.14 g, P = 0.003). In the small intestinal and colonic tissues, the macroscopic scores were significantly lower in the nilotinib group than in the indomethacin group(1.14 ± 0.38 and 7.29 ± 2.98, P = 0.005; 1.14 ± 0.38 and 7.43 ± 2.64, P = 0.001, respectively), but the values of the nilotinib and indomethacin

Objective:To determine post-discharge mortality and associated factors of the first-wave multicenter Turkish Thoracic Society(TTD)-TURCOVID ***:In this retrospective cohort study,we analyzed the data of 18 of 26 centers included in the first TTD-TURCOVID study,and 1112 cases diagnosed with COVID-19 between 11 March and 31 July 2020 participated in the *** causes of death after COVID-19 discharge were ***:The mean age of the patients was(51.07±16.93)years,with 57.6%male *** the cohort group,89.1%of COVID-19 treatment locations were hospital wards,3.6%were intensive care units(ICUs),and 7.2%were community *** the longterm follow-up,the in-hospital mortality rate was 3.6%(95%CI 2.6-4.8),the post-discharge mortality rate was 2.8%(95%CI 1.9-3.9),and the total mortality was 6.3%(95%CI 5.0-7.8).After discharge,63.3%of mortality overall occurred during the first six *** rates in post-discharge follow-ups were 12.7%(95%CI 8.0-30.6)in cancer patients,10.8%(95%CI 6.3-22.9)in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients,11.1%(95%CI 4.4-22.7)in heart failure patients,7.8(95%CI 3.8-14.3)in atherosclerotic heart disease patients,and 2.3%(95%CI 0.8-5.6)in diabetes mellitus *** smokers/ex-smokers,the all-mortality rates were higher than in ***:This multicenter study showed that patients over 65 years of age,males,former/active smoker,ICU stay,lung,heart disease,and malignancy should be followed up for at least the first six months after discharge due to COVID-19.

Vaccinations Rates in the Elderly with Diabetes Mellitus

Infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the elderly. Improvements in health care prevention including vaccinations and treatment have led to an increase in the birth life expectancy. The vaccines that are now recommended for people over 60 are influenza, herpes zoster and a vaccine combining tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and pneumococcal vaccine. Our aim was to estimate the prevelance of vaccination among diabetic patients attending in Tepecik Training Hospital and in Ege University Faculty of Medicine. Patients and Methods: Individuals at or over the age of 60 who were attending to Tepecik Training Hospital and at Ege University Faculty of Medicine. Department of Internal Medicine was targeted from February to May 2014. Our data are collected from the patients face to face by questionnaire. Results: A total of 274 elderly patients with a mean ± SD (range) age of 72 ± 6 (62 - 93) years were questioned. The vaccination ratios were determined as 34% (93) for influenza, 9.5% (26) for pneumococcal, 10.6% (27) for tetanus vaccine. The patients were divided in two groups as diabetics and non-diabetics. The influenza vaccination rate is 38.1% in diabetic patients, rate of 31.8% in non-diabetic patients, the pneumococcal vaccine rate is 13.4% in diabetic patients, rate of 7.39% in non-diabetic patients. The tetanus vaccination rate is 9.28% in diabetic patients, rate of 11.36% in non-diabetic patients. No statistically significant difference between two groups was determined.

Proximal Iliac Artery Stenosis in Allograft Renal Transplant, a Diagnostic beyond Echo-Doppler, Treatment Approach

Background: Transplant Renal Artery Stenosis (TRAS) is a well-known vascular complication after a kidney transplant. It is associated with premature renal failure, uncontrolled hypertension, and allograft loss. However, Proximal Iliac Artery Stenosis to a Kidney Transplant (Prox-TRAS) is an uncommon cause of vascular graft complication leading to acute renal failure and refractory hypertension with a less incidence around and only a few cases reports have been described in the medical literature. Methods: We reviewed the medical record of kidney transplant recipients of the General Hospital of Ciudad Real, Spain, from March 2008 to March 2019. We identified all cases (260) with the diagnosis of renal vascular hypertension by imaging studies. Of those 260 renal vascular stenoses, five (5) were diagnosed with proximal iliac artery stenosis through Angio-CT and arteriography. We performed an analysis of clinical parameters and evolution. Results: Prox-TRAS was diagnosed in 5 of the 260 patients who presented acute or progressive allograft dysfunction with refractory hypertension, with an incidence rate of 1.4%. In 4 of them (1.1%), we had to resort to another imaging test, angio-CT, arteriography, as the echo-doppler was unable to identify the abnormalities. Hypertension was a constant finding along with impaired renal function (100%);with respect to Prox-TRAS, its onset was later (12 - 60 months) after transplantation. An increase in TA (140 ± 10 and 80.7 ± 7 to 160 ± 18 and 85 ± 7 mmHg, p-0.009) was observed. There was an increase in the use of hypotensive drugs (2.1 ± 1.1 and 4.3 ± 1, p-0.003). Similarly, in all cases, a worsening of basal creatinine from 0.9 to 0.1 ± to 1.2 ± (P × 0.004) was also observed. Prox-TRAS was a cause of the increase in both creatinine and TA (140 ± 10 and 80.7 ± 7 to 160 ± 18 and 85 ± 7 mmHg, P 0.009). All cases were treated by Percutaneous transluminal

A Double-Sided View to Adult Vaccination:The Opinions and Attitudes of Patients and Health Workers

Objective: Although there are adult vaccination schemes in our country, there are serious deficiencies in the way that doctors direct the patients to this vaccination, but also patients have to make and demand these vaccinations. The aim of our study is to identify the shortcomings in this area and draw a roadmap for what arrangements should be made in terms of physicians and patients in order to increase adult immunization rates in primary care. Method: We conducted a two-phase, multicentered, descriptive clinical trial between October and December 2017. The first phase of the trial was carried out with patients from 3 Family Health Centers in Antalya, Istanbul and Osmaniye. Patients to be interviewed were selected voluntarily among Family Health Center’s applicants. The second phase of the trial was carried out with health workers, who were participated to trial from 26 different provinces of Turkey. In the process, a questionnaire of 19 questions was applied to primary health care workers by the internet. Results: 490 patients were included in the study. There was a significant difference between gender, age, education level and guideline follow-up and vaccination status of patients [p Conclusion: As a result of the studies including our study about adult vaccination, only 10% - 20% of the targeted groups in adults can be vaccinated. However, just like in childhood during adulthood, vaccinations protect individuals from diseases and provide economic benefits. Firstly, the knowledge level of physicians on adult immunization should be updated with in-service trainings, they should first be convinced to vaccinate because they are in risk group and then they should be recommended vaccination to patient to increase the vaccination rates.
