microRNA-455-5p alleviates neuroinflammation in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury

Neuroinflammation is a major pathophysiological factor that results in the development of brain injury after cerebral ischemia/*** of microRNA(miR)-455-5p after ischemic stroke has been considered a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for neuronal injury after ***,the role of miR-455-5p in the post-ischemia/reperfusion inflammatory response and the underlying mechanism have not been *** this study,mouse models of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury were established by transient occlusion of the middle cerebral artery for 1 hour followed by ***-455-5p,antagomir-455-5p,and their negative controls were injected intracerebroventricularly 2 hours before or 0 and 1 hour after middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO).The results showed that cerebral ischemia/reperfusion decreased miR-455-5p expression in the brain tissue and the peripheral ***-455-5p pretreatment increased miR-455-5p expression in the brain tissue,reduced the cerebral infarct volume,and improved neurological ***,primary cultured microglia were exposed to oxygen-glucose deprivation for 3 hours followed by 21 hours of reoxygenation to mimic cerebral ischemia/***-455-5p reduced C-C chemokine receptor type 5 mRNA and protein levels,inhibited microglia activation,and reduced the production of the inflammatory factors tumor necrosis factor-αand interleukin-1β.These results suggest that miR-455-5p is a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for the treatment of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and that it alleviates cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury by inhibiting C-C chemokine receptor type 5 expression and reducing the neuroinflammatory response.

Horizontal gas mixing in rectangular fluidized bed:A novel method for gas dispersion coefficients in various conditions and distributor designs

In a rectangular fluidized bed combustor, the tracer gas is injected continuously into the bed from a point source at the center of the distributor plate. In this study, a general governing equation is formulated for tracer gas dispersion in the bed. An analytical solution is derived to estimate the dispersion coefficients, Dxand Dy, in a horizontal plane. The concentration profiles at different sampling heights with various gas velocities are ***, to estimate the dispersion coefficients, surface fitting of the obtained analytical solution to the experimental data is performed. The dispersion coefficients obtained from this model are compared with those of a conventional model. Additionally, the effect of walls, bed height and gas injection rate on the dispersion coefficients in a horizontal plane is investigated, and the effect of distributor design on the dispersion coefficients in a horizontal plane is investigated with different tracer positions. It is found that Dxand Dyare nearly equivalent at a lower tracer gas ratio of the injected gas to the total gas flow rate. It is also demonstrated that the effect of bed height on Dxis minor. This model is also able to estimate the dispersion coefficients in the case of a multihorizontal nozzle distributor.

Distribution of antibiotic resistance genes and their association with bacteria and viruses in decentralized sewage treatment facilities

The distribution of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)has been intensively studied in large-scale wastewater treatment plants and livestock ***,small-scale decentralized sewage treatment facilities must also be explored due to their possible direct exposure to *** this study,six wastewater treatment facilities in developed rural areas in eastern China were investigated to understand their risks of spreading *** metagenomics and network analysis tools,ARGs and bacterial and viral communities were identified in the influent(INF)and effluent(EFF)*** dominant ARGs belonged to the bacitracin class,which are different from most of municipal wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs).The dominant hosts of ARGs are Acidovorax in bacterial communities and Prymnesiovirus in viral ***,a positive relationship was found between ARGs and *** ARGs significantly correlated with phages were all hosted by specific genera of bacteria,indicating that phages had contributed to the ARG’s proliferation in sewage treatment *** significant concern on the possible enhanced risks caused by bacteria,viruses and their related ARGs in decentralized sewage treatment facilities is necessary.

Adsorptive removal of antibiotics from water using magneticion exchange resin

The occurrence of antibiotics in the environment has recently raised serious concern regarding their potential threat to aquatic ecosystem and human health. In this study, the magnetic ion exchange（MIEX） resin was applied for removing three commonly-used antibiotics, sulfamethoxazole（SMX）, tetracycline（TCN） and amoxicillin（AMX） from *** results of batch experiments show that the maximum adsorption capacities on the MIEX resin for SMX, TCN and AMX were 789.32, 443.18 and 155.15 μg/m L at 25°C,respectively, which were 2–7 times that for the powdered activated carbon. The adsorption kinetics of antibiotics on the MIEX resin could be simulated by the pseudo-second-order model（R^2= 0.99）, and the adsorption isotherm data were well described by the Langmuir model（R^2= 0.97）. Solution p H exhibited a remarkable impact on the adsorption process and the absorbed concentrations of the tested antibiotics were obtained around the neutral p *** MIEX resin could be easily regenerated by 2 mol/L Na Cl solution and maintained high adsorption removal for the tested antibiotics after regeneration. Anion exchange mechanism mainly controlled the adsorption of antibiotic and the formation of hydrogen binding between the antibiotic and resin can also result in the increase of adsorption capacity. The high adsorption capacity, fast adsorption rate and prominent reusability make the MIEX resin a potential adsorbent in the application for removing antibiotics from water.

High Refractive Index without Absorption in a Ladder-Type System

A three-level ladder-type system with vacuum-induced coherence and incoherent pumping is studied to obtain a high refractive index without absorption. It is shown that the enhancement of the refractive index without absorption can be accomplished by choosing the proper values of the incoherent pumping, the angle between the two dipole moments, the probe detuning and the relative phase of the two coherent fields.

Dynamical Properties of Two Coupled Dissipative QED Cavities Driven by Coherent Fields

When two identical QED cavities driven by the coherent fields are located in a uniform environment, in addition to dissipation, there appears an indirect coupling between the two cavities induced by the background fields. We investigate the effects of the coherent fields, the dissipation as well as the incoherent coupling on the following dynamical properties of the system： photon transfer, reversible decoherence, and quantum state transfer, etc. We find that the photons in the cavities do not leak completely into the environment due to the collective coupling between the cavities and the enviroment, and the photons are transferred irreversibly from the cavity with more photons to the cavity with less ones due to the incoherent coupling so that they are equally distributed among the two cavities. The coherent field pumping on the two cavities increases the mean photons, complements the revived magnitude of the reversible decoherence, but hinders the quantum state transfer between the two cavities. The above phenomena may find applications in quantum communication and other basic fields.

The absorption of single-cav计y and double-cavity optomechanical systems and periodic optomechanical lattices has previously been investigated extensively. In this paper, we present the absorption of a nonperiodic cavity chain. where the absorption value on the resonance point shows switchable dips or peaks, according to whether the optomechanical interaction is at an odd or even-numbered position in the chain. Meanwhile, the value of absorption due to the optomechanical interaction varies with the number of the bare cavities. The calculated results may have some novel applications, such as detecting the position of the movable mirror in a long cavity chain, which would be useful in quantum information processing based on optomechanical systems.

The 2014 Northern Thailand Mw 6.1 Earthquake and its Seismogenic Tectonics

On May 5, 2014, an earthquake with a magnitude of Mw 6.1(the largest earthquake in Thailand so far) occurred in Chiang Rai of the Golden Triangle area in northern Thailand. We had an opportunity to conduct field survey immediately after the earthquake. Serious damage to buildings and casualties of lives were observed, and the estimated Maximum Mercalli Intensity(MMI) of the earthquake is Ⅷ(evaluated according to the MMI scale of the Chinese Standard). No long continuous ground ruptures were produced during the earthquake, but in the epicenter(commonly within MMI Ⅷ extent), massive small linear ruptures(usually several tens of meters long) developed and displayed intriguing structural features, offsetting many roads several centimeters left laterally on NE trending cracks or offsetting right laterally on NW trending ones. The focal mechanism solution of earthquake shows that this is a pure strike-slip event, and two nodal planes in NW and NE directions had the same motion senses respectively as those of breakage associated with the earthquake. The long axis of the isoseismals and aftershock distributions are in NE direction,which is consistent with the strike of Luang Namtha fault. The 230-km-long Luang Namtha fault which starts from the border of China and Laos, runs through northern Laos, and terminates at Chiang Rai of Thailand is predominated by left-lateral strike-slip and active in late Quaternary, and two earthquakes over Ms 6.0 occurred along the fault in 1925 and 2007 respectively. This Mw 6.1 earthquake occurred at the southwestern end of the fault. All related features such as evident structural rupturing, elongated orientation of MMI and aftershock distribution,as well as the location of the epicenter,suggest that the Luang Namtha fault may be responsible for the 2014 Northern Thailand earthquake.

Apolygus lucorum is the dominant pathogenic insect attacking Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)cotton in ***,20-hydroxyecdysone(20E)has important functions in many biological processes,including insect *** C(PLC),which is an essential enzyme for phosphoinositide metabolism,is involved in 20E signal transduction,but its function in 20E-mediated reproduction in *** remains *** this study,20E increased A/PLCγ transcription as well as the abundance and activity of the encoded protein during molting and *** 20E treatment also induced the considerable accumulation of two second messengers,inositol triphosphate and *** expression levels of genes encoding vitellogenin(AlVg)and soluble trehalase(AlTre-1)were similar to those of AlPLCy,and were upregulated in response to *** silencing of AlPLCγ resulted in downregulated expression o f AITre-γ ***,the silencing of AlTre-1 and AlVg did not affect AlPLCγ ***,the silencing of AlVg did not alter AlTre-1 ***,an examination of the insect specimens indicated that AlPLCy is required for female adult reproduction,and that downregulated expression of this gene is associated with decreases in fecundity,adult longevity,and egg hatching rate as well as delayed oocyte *** propose that 20E regulates AlTre-1 expression via AlPLCy and affects Vg expression as well as ovary development to facilitate the reproductive activities of *** females.

In situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction analysis of deformation behavior of a Nb/NiTi composite for biomedical applications

The deformation behavior involved in Nb/NiTi composite for biomedical applications within a large macroscopic strain range was investigated by tensile loading-unloading test and in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction(SXRD).Experimental results show that during loading,the Nb/NiTi composite experiences the elastic elongation of B2-NiTi austenitic,B19’-NiTi martensitic and β-Nb phases,B2→ B19’ stress-induced martensitic(SIM) transformation and tensile plastic deformation of β-Nb *** unloading,the deformation behavior involved in Nb/NiTi composite includes the elastic recovery of B2-NiTi austenitic,B19’-NiTi martensitic and β-Nb phases,reverse phase transformation B19’→B2 and compressive deformation of p-Nb *** martensitic transformation in this composite is almost reversible and occurs in a localized *** results might contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the deformation mechanism involved in Nb/NiTi composite and shed some light on design and development of novel composites with a combination of good biocompatibility and excellent superelasticity for biomedical applications.
