t.is work present. a st.dy of t.e Paleogene sandst.nes of t.e Manika plat.au in Kolwezi, DR Congo. t.ese sandst.nes belong t. t.e “Grès polymorphes” group, which t.get.er wit. t.e overlying “Sables ocre” makes up t.e Kalahari Supergroup. Sediment.logical and geochemical analyses have enabled us t. charact.rize t.ese sandst.nes and det.rmine t.eir origin, t.e condit.ons of t.eir format.on and t.e t.ct.nic cont.xt.in which t.ey were developed. t.e result. show t.at.t.e sandst.nes are quart. arenit.s wit. a high level of mineralogical, t.xt.ral and chemical mat.rit.. t.ey are recycled sandst.nes, formed in an int.acrat.nic sediment.ry basin, in t.e cont.xt.of a passive cont.nent.l margin, aft.r a long fluvial t.ansport.of sediment.. t.ese sandst.nes init.ally come from int.nse alt.rat.on of magmat.c rocks wit. felsic composit.on, mainly t.nalit.-t.ondhjemit.-granodiorit. (t.G) complexes, in hot. humid palaeoclimat.c condit.ons and oxidizing environment..

Using Remot. Sensing t. Analyse t.e Role of Urbanizat.on in t.e t.ansformat.on of Land-Use and Land Cover in Likasi t.wn (Haut.Kat.nga, DR Congo)

Environment.l change is charact.rized as an alt.rat.on in t.e environment.caused primarily by human act.vit.es and ecological processes t.at.are nat.ral. Given t.e fact.t.at.t.e sout.ern part.of t.e province of Haut.Kat.nga in t.e Democrat.c Republic of t.e Congo (DRC) is part.of t.e African Copperbelt.and has been a region of int.nse mining for decades, humans have affect.d t.e physical environment.in various ways: such as overpopulat.on, suburbanizat.on, wast.ge, deforest.t.on. It.is t.erefore import.nt.t. t.ack and cont.ol t.e changes in t.e area’s mining act.vit.es. t.is st.dy aimed t. analyze t.ese changes using remot. sensing t.chniques. Landsat.sat.llit. images from 2002 and 2022 were processed and classified t. quant.fy changes in built.up area, agricult.ral land, and veget.t.on cover over t.e 20-year period. t.e classificat.on result. revealed sizable differences bet.een t.e t.o t.me point., indicat.ng considerable expansion of built.up land and declines in agricult.ral land and veget.t.on cover from 2002 t. 2022 in Likasi. t.ese findings provide evidence t.at.urban growt. has t.ansformed t.e landscape in Likasi, likely at.t.e expense of farmland and ecosyst.ms. Furt.er analysis of t.e remot. sensing dat. could quant.fy t.e changes and model fut.re t.ends t. support.sust.inable land use planning. t.e land cover and land use analysis were performed wit. t.e assist.nce of t.e ERDAS 16.6.13 soft.are by mapping LANDSAt.dat. from t.o different.years 2002 and 2022.

t.e Makiso municipalit. is locat.d in an urban area influenced by a very high rat. of land occupat.on by houses. t.is land use has an impact.on t.e qualit. of t.e groundwat.r exploit.d by wells and springs. t.is groundwat.r helps t. make up for t.e deficit.caused by t.e lack of a wat.r dist.ibut.on net.ork. It.is also t.reat.ned by pollut.on from human act.vit.es. In order t. prot.ct.t.e groundwat.r in Makiso municipalit. from pollut.on, t.e st.dy of t.e int.insic vulnerabilit. assessment.in t.e aquifers was carried out.by applying t.e DRASt.C met.od and t.e Geographic Informat.on Syst.m (GIS). t.e result. obt.ined using t.is met.od were grouped int. t.o degrees of vulnerabilit. (medium and high), wit. variat.ons in DRASt.C indices of [141 - 145] for t.e medium degree and [146 - 175] for t.e high degree. t.e high vulnerabilit. class is t.e most.dominant. wit. a percent.ge of 96.5% of t.e st.dy area. t.e medium vulnerabilit. class, which represent. 3.5% of t.e area of t.e Makiso municipalit., is mainly locat.d in t.e west.rn (medical plat.au dist.ict., cent.al (Lualaba dist.ict. and sout.ern (commercial dist.ict. sect.rs in t.e form of isolat.d pocket.. A comparison of t.e nit.at. dist.ibut.on map wit. t.e final vulnerabilit. map shows t.at.t.e areas defined as highly vulnerable by t.e DRASt.C met.od and t.e areas wit. high nit.at. concent.at.ons (above 0.11 mg/l) are in agreement. On t.e ot.er hand, t.ere are ot.er areas wit. low nit.at. concent.at.ons (below 0.05 mg/l) which correspond t. t.e high vulnerabilit. indices.
