Context: Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) remains a major public health problem in developing countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which continues to face the emergence of MDR-TB cases. Because of the ototoxic effects of AGs, the World Health Organiz.tion (WHO) has recommended the introduction of the bedaquiline regimen. However, very few data are available regarding the susceptibility of bedaquiline to induce hearing loss, hence the present study set out to compare the AG-based regimen and the bedaquiline-based regimen in the occurrence of hearing loss in MDR-TB patients. Methods: This is a prospective multicenter cohort study that included 335 MDR-TB patients, performed in Kinshasa (DRC) during the period from January 2020 to January 2021. Sociodemographic, clinical, biological and audiometric data were analyz.d using Stata 17. Repeated-measures analysis of variance was used to compare changes in the degree of hearing loss over time between the two groups of patients on AG and bedaquiline regimens. The double-difference method was estimated using regression with fixed-effects. A p value < 0.05 was considered the threshold for statistical significance. Results: The degree of hearing loss was similar between the two groups at the first month [AGs (28 dB) vs BDQ (30 dB);p = 0.298]. At six months, the mean degree of hearing loss was significantly greater in the aminoglycoside regimen group [AGs (60.5 dB) vs BDQ (44 dB);p < 0.001]. The double difference was significant, with a greater increase in hearing loss in the AGs group (diff-in-diff 18.3;p < 0.001). After adjustment for age and serum albumin, the group receiving the AG-based regimen had a 2-point greater worsening than those with bedaquiline at the sixth month (diff-in-diff 19.8;p Conclusion: Hearing loss is frequent with both treatment regimens, but more marked with the Aminoglycoside-based regimen. About 80% of cowpea seeds are lost along with 30% of their weight after six months of unprotected storage due to attacks by Callosobruchus maculatus. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of applying bioinsecticides on the biological parameters of C. maculatus to reduce its damage to cowpea stocks. Four treatments including an untreated control and three doses of powdery extracts of C. nigricans, z. z.nthoxyloides and H. suaveolens, were compared in a Fischer block with four completely randomiz.d repetitions. One hundred undamaged cowpea seeds were mixed with doses of each extract in Petri dishes and then fed as food substrates to ten pairs of C. maculatus for eight days. The extracts of H. suaveolens, C. nigricans and z. z.nthoxyloides all contain active ingredients including polyphenols, flavonoids, anthocyanins and alkaloids, etc. The extract of z. z.nthoxyloides was found to be more active on adults (100.00% mortality) followed by C. nigricans (98.75% mortality) and H. suaveolens (97.50% mortality) at 80 mg/g. Fecundity per female decreased significantly in the treated batches of 13.82 eggs for H. suaveolens at 10.12 eggs for C. nigricans at a dose of 80 mg/g. Germination rate of seeds was statistically raised to 100% at 60 and 80 mg/g by C. nigricans powder and lowered to 83.00% at 20 mg/g by z. z.nthoxyloides extracts. The application of z. z.nthoxyloides extract would be a less expensive alternative for the sustainable management of C. maculatus in cowpea stocks.

Effects of Polypropylene Fibers on the Physical and Mechanical Properties of Recycled Aggregate Concrete

The viability of using polypropylene fibers(PPF) in concrete was largely studied. Yet, few of the existing research studies investigated the effects of PPF on the properties of concrete containing recycled concrete aggregate(RCA). Mixes with different RCA replacement ratios and different PPF content were designed and tested. The test results showed that the addition of PPF did not change significantly the compressive strength and the density of the concrete, but slightly decreased its modulus of elasticity and Poisson’s ratio. The drop in the splitting tensile strength and the flexural strength due to RCA inclusions was to a large extent compensated by the PPF addition. The water absorption decreased and the percent voids increased with increased PPF addition. Correlations between the RCA content, the PPF content and the properties of concrete were studied. Useful regression models were proposed to predict the properties of concrete in relevant ranges of RCA and PPF content.

Background: The onset of the hearing loss is a major challenge during the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Aminoglycoside-based regimens, to a lesser extent based on bedaquiline, induce ototoxic sensorineural hearing loss. Research on risk factors is essential to enable high-risk individuals to benefit from preventive measures in settings with limited resources. Objective: This study aimed to assess the determinants of the hearing loss in patients with MDR-TB. Methods: This prospective multicenter cohort study included 337 patients with MDR-TB. It was performed in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) between January 2020 and January 2021. Sociodemographic, clinical, biological, therapeutic, and audiometric data were exported and analyz.d using Stata 17 and MedCalc. The fixed-effect linear regression panel model was used to assess the degree of the hearing loss over time according to the following covariates: therapeutic regimen (aminoglycosides, bedaquiline, or alternate), stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD), age at inclusion, body mass index, serum albumin level, HIV status, alcohol intake, hypertension, and hemoglobin level. The Hausman test was used to select between fixed- and random-effect estimators. The threshold for statistical significance was set at p Result: A total of 236 patients (70%) received an aminoglycoside-based regimen, 61 (18%) received a bedaquiline-based regimen, and 40 (12%) received aminoglycosides relayed by bedaquiline. The frequency of the hearing loss increased from 62% to 96.3% within six months for all therapeutic regimens. The Hearing loss worsened, with moderate (72.4%) and profound (16%) deafness being predominant. An Exposure to the treatment for more than one month (β coeff: 27.695, Se: 0.793, p β coeff: 6.102, Se: 1.779, p β coeff: 5.610, Se: 1.682, p = 0.001), and an eGFR β coeff: 6.730, Se: 2.70, p = 0.013) were the independent risk factors associated with the hearing loss in patients with MDR-TB

Fault-Plane Solution of the Earthquake of 19 March 2005 in Monatele (Cameroon)

An earthquake of magnitude Ml = 3.04 was detected on the 19 of March 2005 at 11:49:18.31 (local time) by seven broadband seismometers located around Cameroon (Central Africa). Its epicenter has been relocated and found to be in Monatele (Cameroon) with latitude 4°26.34' and longitude 10°59.62'. The fault-plane solution calculated using double couple fault-plane solutions based on P-wave polarity readings, also taking into consideration the dextral nature of the Sanaga Fault (SF) underlying this region of the epicenter, is a strike-slip fault with a normal faulting component. The beach ball representation of this fault-plane solution has strike, dip and rake values of 289, 70, -169 for the principal fault plane and 195, 80, -20 for the auxiliary fault plane.

Lighting transfer across multiple views through local color transforms

We present a method for transferring lighting between photographs of a static scene. Our method takes as input a photo collection depicting a scene with varying viewpoints and lighting *** cast lighting transfer as an edit propagation problem, where the transfer of local illumination across images is guided by sparse correspondences obtained through multi-view stereo. Instead of directly propagating color, we learn local color transforms from corresponding patches in pairs of images and propagate these transforms in an edge-aware manner to regions with no correspondences. Our color transforms model the large variability of appearance changes in local regions of the scene, and are robust to missing or inaccurate correspondences. The method is fully automatic and can transfer strong shadows between images. We show applications of our image relighting method for enhancing photographs, browsing photo collections with harmoniz.d lighting, and generating synthetic time-lapse sequences.

Two-phase flow distributors for fuel cell flow channels

All existing proton exchange membrane （PEM） fuel cell gas flow fields have been designed on the basis of single-phase gas flow distribution. The presence of liquid water in the flow causes non-uniform gas distribution, leading to poor cell performance. This paper demonstrates that a gas flow restrictor/distributor, as is commonly used in two-phase flow to stabiliz. multiphase transport lines and multiphase reactors, can improve the gas flow distribution by significantly reducing gas real-distribution caused by either non-uniform water formation in parallel flow channels or flow instability associated with negative-slope pressure drop characteristic of two-phase horiz.ntal flow systems.

We use complementary analysis techniques to determine the structure of nanometric periodic multilayers and particularly their interfaces. We focus on Co-based multilayer which can be used as efficient optical component in the extreme ultraviolet （EUV） range. The samples are characteriz.d using reflectivity measurements in order to determine the thickness and roughness of the various layers, X-ray emission and nuclear magnetic resonance （NMR） spectroscopies to identify the chemical state of the atoms present within the stack and know if they interdiffuse. Results are validated through the use of destructive techniques such as transmission electron microscopy or secondary ion mass spectrometry.
