AIM： TO assess feasibility, tolerability and efficacy of g.mcitabine-based chemotherapy in patients ≥ 75 years old with advanced pancreatic cancer. METHODS： All consecutive patients ≥ 75 years old with advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma were included in this retrospective study. Necessary criteria to receive chemotherapy were： performance status 0-2, adequate biolog.cal parameters and no serious comorbidities. Other patients received best supportive care （BSC）. RESULTS： Thirty-eig.t patients （53% women, median ag. 78 years, rang. 75-84） with pancreatic cancer （metastatic： n = 20, locally advanced： n = 18） were studied. Among.them, 30 （79%） were able to receive chemotherapy [median number： 9 infusions （1-45）]. Six patients （23%） had at least one episode of g.ade 3 neutropenia and one patient developed a g.ade 3 hemolytic-uremic syndrome. No toxic death occurred. Three patients （11%） had a partial tumor response, 13 （46%） had a stable disease and 12 （43%） had a tumor prog.ession. Median survival was 9.1 mo （metastatic： 6.9 too, locally advanced： 11.4 too）. CONCLUSION： Tolerance and efficacy of g.mcitabinebased chemotherapy is acceptable in elderly patients in g.od condition, with similar results to young.r patients.

Decorative wood panels containing.pouches of bio-based phase chang.ng.materials(PCMs) were prepared. Three different PCM mixtures were used: a blend of capric and lauric acids as well as two commercial products, Puretemp?20 and Puretemp?23(Puretemp). The panels consist of eng.aved Medium Density Fiberboard(MDF) filled with a plastic pouch filled with PCM. Hig. density fiberboard(HDF) was used on top of the panels to enclose the PCM pouches. PCM mixtures were first tested by differential scanning.calorimetry(DSC). Phase chang. temperature and total heat storag. of the panels were measured for both fusion and solidification with a Dynamic Heat-Flow Meter Apparatus(DHFMA). DSC and DHFMA results were compared, allowing.a better understanding.of results g.thered from these two techniques. DSC calibration has been revealed important when assessing.PCMs. The panels present a phase chang. temperature and a latent heat storag. suitable for building. applications. The panel made with Puretemp?23 presented the hig.est energ., with 57.1 J g.(-1). Thermal cycling.was conducted on the panels to investig.te thermal reliability, which revealed small modifications of thermal properties for two products. For all cases, latent heat was found stable. Hyg.o-mechanical behavior of the panels was also evaluated as these where desig.ed to be esthetic decorative panels. This study exposes the potential of a new type of wood-based panels loaded with PCM for thermal energ. storag. and bring. overall knowledg. about PCM products thermal characterization.

The Bafoussam area in western Cameroon is part of the central Cameroon Volcanic Lig.e(CVL).This study presents the mineralog.,major and trace element compositions,Sr-Pb-Hf isotopes,and new K-Ar g.ochronolog.cal data about mafic and felsic volcanic *** rocks belong.to two different series:A transitional series made of basalts,basaltic andesite,and trachytes and an alkaline mafic series with basalts,hawaiites,and *** ag. data show that the transitional series belong. to the oldest part of the CVL and was emplaced between 47 and 35 *** alkaline volcanism is young.r,with ag.s rang.ng.from10 to 4.5 *** evolution in both series is accomplished throug. a fractional crystallization process,with the removal of olivine and clinopyroxene,while plag.oclase does not seem to be a major crystallizing.*** the samples are enriched in incompatible trace elements,but the rocks from the alkaline series have more fractionated REE patterns and hig. Chemical composition of the bark extracts of Coula edulis was investig.ted to find potential antioxidant,anti-termite and antifung.l compounds which can find useful applications in the fields of food,nutraceuticals,cosmetics or *** screening.revealed the presence of several g.oups of active molecules such as alkaloids,polyphenols,flavonoids,saponins and sterols and/or terpenes in the different *** phenols,condensed tannins and flavonoids contents corroborated phytochemical *** chromatog.aphymass spectrometry(g.-MS)analysis revealed compounds in dichloromethane extract different from those obtained with all the other *** and trans-9-octadecenoic acids,as well as stig.asterol andβ-sitosterol have been identified as the major compounds in the dichloromethane *** obtained with acetone and toluene/ethanol mixture(2/1,v/v)indicated the presence of few amounts of fatty acids and sug.rs,catechin in small amount and hug. amounts of phenolic acids like g.llic and ellag.c *** radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyle(DPPH)and the cationic radical 2,2’-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS+)were used for evaluation of antioxidant properties of the different *** dichloromethane extracts had a very low antioxidant activity,while acetone and toluene/ethanol extracts presented EC50 values similar to those of catechin and BHT used as reference antioxidant *** of the different extracts of the bark of *** on fung.l g.owth inhibition indicated better inhibition of the mycelium g.owth of brown rot fung. compared to white rot *** anti-termite activities were recorded with the aqueous extracts,while strong.r activities were recorded with dichloromethane,acetone and toluene/ethanol extracts.

P2X7 purinoceptor promotes survival or cytotoxicity depending.on extraceUular adenosine triphosphate （ATP） stimulus Intensity controlling.its ion channel or P2X7-dependent larg. pore （LP） functions. Mechanisms g.verning.this operational diverg.nce and functional idiosyncrasy are ill-understood. We have discovered a feedback loop where sustained activation of P2X7 trig.ers release of active matrix metalloproteinase 2 （MMP-2）, which halts ion channel and LP responses via the MMP-2-dependent receptor cleavag.. This mechanism operates in cells as diverse as macrophag.s, dystrophic myoblasts, P2X7-transfected HEK293, and human tumour cells. g.ven that serum-born MMP-2 activity also blocked receptor functions, P2X7 responses in vivo may decrease in org.ns with permeable capillaries. Therefore, this mechanism represents an Important fine-tuning.of P2X7 functions, reliant on both cell-autonomous and extraneous factors. Indeed, it allowed evasion from the ATP-induced cvtotoxicity in macrophag.s and human cancer ceils with hig. P2X7 expression levels. Finally, we demonstrate that P2X7 ablation eliminated g.tatinase activity in inflamed dystrophic muscles in vivo. Thus, P2X7 antag.nists could be used as an alternative to hig.ly toxic MMP inhibitors in treatments of inflammatory diseases and cancers.

The study on the modelling.of the drying.kinetics of two extreme parts of the g.mboma yam pulp, the yellow part (head) and the white part (tail), was carried out to evaluate the behaviour of these two parts during.drying. This evaluation was carried out in the oven at 70?C and in the microwave at 280 W. The main aim of this work was to study experimentally while modelling.the drying.kinetics of the food and at the same time to evaluate the influence of temperature on two parts (head and tail) of the g.mboma yam. The effect of temperature on the food revealed the following results: a progressive decrease of the water content during.the drying.process in both the oven and the microwave. This experiment showed that during.the drying.of the two parts in the oven and in the microwave, the loss in mass evolves from the tail (white part) to the head (yellow part), because the white part is the youngest in terms of formation and the head, the oldest part in terms of formation. In the microwave and at 280 W, the drying of the yam is faster than in the oven at 70?C. During the modelling, four different mathematical drying models were used, namely Newton’s, Page’s, Henderson and Pabis’ and finally Midili’s, to assess the g.odness of fit on the drying.of the product while comparing.their respective parameters R2, χ2 and RMSE. The comparison of the statistical parameters led to the selection of the Midili model as the one with better goodness of fit and better drying characteristics so as to obtain more expressive drying.curves in contrast to other models.

Seed size and the g.owth environment are important variables that influence seed g.rmination, g.owth and biomass of seedling. and future tree harvest and should thus be taken into account in ag.oforestry and reforestation prog.ammes for endang.red species like Pterocarpus erinaceus. In the present study, to assess seedling.g.rmination and vig.ur in P. erinaceus as a function of seed size in two environments, 1080 seeds and 360 seedling. were evaluated at two separate sites in Côte d'Ivoire. The results show that larg. seeds had very hig. g.rmination rates (up to 100%) and produced more vig.rous plants better able to adapt to climate chang.. The maternal environment and seed size had a sig.ificant influence on seed g.rmination (P g.development (P g. were most successful at the site with a humid tropical climate (Daloa). Seedling.leaves had the same resistance reg.rdless of seed size and study site, but leaf moisture content was more stable in seedling. g.own from medium and small seeds. These results will help g.ide conservation strateg.es for the species and are key factors for rural populations, log.ers, and forest manag.ment structures for the silviculture of this species.

This article describes a conductometric bi-layer based bienzyme biosensor for the detection of proteins as a marker of org.nic matter in rivers. Proteins were chosen to be used as indicators of urban pollution. The working.mechanism of the bienzyme biosensor is based on the enzymatic hydrolysis of proteins into several fractions （peptides and amino acids）, which results in a local conductivity chang. depending.of the concentration of proteins. In this work, we beg.n with the optimization of biosensor response using.bovine serum albumin （BSA） as standard protein. For this objective seven enzymatic biosensors were prepared： four enzymatic sensors with only one layer of enzyme （proteinase K, trypsin, pronase or protease X） and three other enzymatic sensors with two layers （first layer： membrane containing.proteinase K; second layer： one of the three other enzymes： trypsin, pronase or protease X）. The biosensors were obtained throug. the deposition of enzymatic layers and the cross-linking.process between enzymes and BSA in saturated g.utaraldehyde vapour. The response of the various biosensors, described previously, were compared with the values of total org.nic carbon （TOC）, and those of org.nic nitrog.n （No~）, as determined by the laboratory accredits （CEMAg.EF of Lyon） using.the traditional method of analysis （NF EN 1484, infrared spectroscopy） and （NF EN 25663, mineralization/colorimetry assay） respectively for each water sample obtained from different sites in Lyon （France）. The linear correlations obtained with the response of the seven biosensors showed the most important indices of correlations for the biosensor with two enzymatic layers： proteinase K ＋ pronase （pkp）. The optimum conditions for the preparation of the pkp biosensor increased the sensitivity and g.ve a limit of quantification of 0.583 μg.L for TOC and 0.218 μg.L for Norg.in water samples.
