Abstarct In recognition of the rising threats of groundlevel ozone(O_(3))pollution to forests,agricultural crops,and other types of vegetation,accurate and realistic risk assessment is urgently *** accumulated O_(3)exposure over a concentration threshold of 40 nmol mol-1(AOT40)is the most commonly used metric to investigate O3 exposure and its effects on vegetation and to conduct vegetation risk *** is also used by international regulatory authorities for deriving critical levels and setting standards to protect vegetation against surface O_(3).However,fixed periods of the growing season are used universally,yet growing seasons vary with latitudes and elevations,and the periods of plant lifespan also differ among annual ***,we propose the concept of the Annual O_(3)Spectrum Profile(AO_(3)SP)and apply it to calculate the profile of AOT40 throughout the year(AAOT40SP,Annual AOT40 Spectrum Profile)using the International Organization for Standardization(ISO)weeks as a shorter window ISO-based accumulated *** moving time periods of three(for crops)or six(for forests)months,the i so AOT40 behavior throughout the year can be examined as a diagnostic tool for O_(3)risks in the short-or long-term during the lifecycle of local *** this analysis,AOT40(i so AOT40)that is most representative for the local conditions and specific situations can be identified,depending on the exact growing season and lifecycle of the target *** applied this novel approach to data from five background monitoring stations located at different elevations in *** results show that the AAOT40SP approach can be used for improved and more realistic assessment of O3 risks to *** AO_(3)SP approach can also be applied using metrics other than AOT40(exposure-or flux-based),adding a new dimension to the way O_(3)risk to vegetation is assessed.

Excessive application of mineral fertilizers and synthetic pesticides poses a substantial threat to the soil and water environment and food *** fertilizer and biopesticides have gradually become essential technology for reducing mineral fertilizer and pesticide *** the process,the technical environment is critical for promoting farmer behavior related to the adoption of organic fertilizer and *** paper analyzes the influence of the technical environment on farmer behavior related to the adoption of organic fertilizer and biopesticides based on a survey of 1282 farmers in Heilongjiang Province,China,using the bivariate probit *** results indicate that(1)farmer behavior related to the adoption applying organic fertilizer and biopesticides were positively correlated;(2)the technical environment had a significant positive impact on farmer behavior related to the adoption of organic fertilizer and biopesticides;and(3)the technical environment had a heterogeneous effect across different groups of *** research provides insights useful for promoting organic fertilizer and biopesticides to *** can be helpful to bundle relevant environmental technologies,conduct technology training for farmers and strengthen the construction of rural information networks.

Changes in soil fertility and microbial communities following cultivation of native grassland in Horqin Sandy Land,China:a 60-year chronosequence

Background Grassland conversion to cropland is a prevailing change of land use in traditionally nomadic areas,especially in the Mongolian *** investigated the effects of grassland conversion followed by continuous cultivation on soil properties and microbial community characteristics in Horqin Sandy Land,a typical agro-pastoral transition zone of Northern *** samples were collected from the topsoil(upper 20 cm)across a 60-year cultivation chronosequence(5,15,25,35 and 60 years)and unconverted native *** physico-chemical properties were determined and high-throughput sequencing was used to assess microbial community diversity and *** Grassland cultivation resulted in changes to soil properties in both the short and longer ***,it significantly increased soil bulk density(BD),electrical conductivity(EC),soil total nitrogen(TN),available phosphorus(AP)and available potassium(AK)concentrations,while reducing soil water content(SWC)and soil organic carbon content(SOC).Over the next 35-55 years of continuous cultivation,the trend for most of these characteristics was of reversion towards values nearer to those of native grassland,except for SOC which remained highly *** of grassland substantially altered soil microbial communities at phylum level but there was no significant difference in microbialα-diversity between native grassland and any ***,soil bacterial and fungal community structures at phylum level in the croplands of all cultivation years were different from those in the native *** further revealed that bacterial and fungal structures in cropland tended to become more similar to native grassland after 15 and 25 years of cultivation,*** analysis indicated that SOC,EC and BD were primary determinants of microbial community composition and *** These findings suggest that agricultural cultivation of grassland has considerable effects

Ultrafine bubbles and low doses of gamma irradiation had a positive effect on seed *** research tested the effectiveness of ultrafine bubbles(UFB)water and gamma irradiation for improving the viability and vigor of Albizia chinensis(Osbeck)*** that had been stored for four years.A completely randomized two-factor experiment,i.e.,UFB water and gamma irradiation treatments,were used to determine the best seed *** UFB water treatment had a significant effect on all seed germination parameters;the gamma irradiation treatment did not have a significant effect on improving the viability and vigor of the seeds,with a very low initial germination(11.7%).Soaking the seeds in UFB water for 30 min gave the best germination(51.3%).These improvements also occurred in other germination parameters such as germination rate,germination value,radicle length and vigor *** UFB water treatment has the potential to improve the germination of seeds with low physiological qualities.

Controlling the strain in two-dimensional （2D） materials is an interesting avenue to tailor the mechanical properties of nanoelectromechanical systems. Here, we demonstrate a technique to fabricate ultrathin tantalum oxide nanomechanical resonators with large stress by the laser oxidation of nano-drumhead resonators composed of tantalum diselenide （TaSe2）, a layered 2D material belonging to the metal dichalcogenides. Before the study of their mechanical properties with a laser interferometer, we verified the oxidation and crystallinity of the freely suspended tantalum oxide using high-resolution electron microscopy. We demonstrate that the stress of tantalum oxide resonators increases by 140 MPa （with respect to pristine TaSe2 resonators）, which causes an enhancement in the quality factor （14 times larger） and resonance frequency （9 times larger） of these resonators.

This review provides a recompilation of the most important and recent strategies employed to increase the efficiency of metal-organic framework(MOF)-based systems toward the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution(PHE)reaction through specific strategies:tailoring the photocatalytic activity of bare MOFs and guest@MOF composites,formation of heterojunctions based on MOFs and various photocatalysts,and inorganic photocatalysts derived from *** to the data reported in this mini-review,the most effective strategy to improve the PHE of MOFs relies on modifying the linkers with new secondary building units(SBUs).Although several reviews have investigated the photocatalytic activity of MOFs from a general point of view,many of these studies relate this activity to the physicochemical and catalytic properties of ***,they did not consider the interactions between the components of the photocatalytic *** study highlights the effects of strength of the supramolecular interactions on the photocatalytic performance of bare and MOF-based materials during PHE.A thorough review and comparison of the results established that metal-nanoparticle@MOF composites have weak van der Waals forces between components,whereas heterostructures only interact with MOFs at the surface of bare *** material derivatives from MOFs,we found that pyrolysis destroyed some beneficial properties of MOFs for ***,we conclude that adding SBUs to organic linkers is the most efficient strategy to perform the PHE because the SBUs added to the MOFs promote synergy between the two materials through strong coordination bonds.
