Reactive processing of poly(lactic acid)/poly(ethylene octene) blend film with tailored interfacial intermolecular entanglement and toughening mechanism

In order to obtain a uniform and effectively toughened poly(lactic acid)film by blending with low content of poly(ethylene octene)(POE)with high elasticity,the tailored interfacial intermolecular interaction and entanglement between the two phases of the PLA/POE blend was innovatively constructed via the facile reactive melt blending process through the reaction of the epoxy/anhydride groups grafted on the POE chains with the end groups of PLA chains(PLA/GPOE-MPOE).It was observed that POE domains were embedded tightly in PLA matrix with a fuzzy interface and abundant interface transition area,and the impact fractured surface of the blend showed an obvious plastic deformation with less occurrence of fibrillation of PLA matrix or interfacial *** with neat PLA and directly blended PLA/POE blends,the PLA/GPOE-MPOE blend exhibited much higher complex viscosity/storage modulus,much lower tanδvalues in the terminal region,and obvious strain-hardening *** deviation in viscoelastic behavior of PLA/GPOE-MPOE from linear PLA indicated the enhanced molecular entanglement between the long-branched chains,resulting in an enhancement of the stretching ability during biaxial drawing of the *** PLA/GPOE-MPOE films with draw ratio as high as 7×7 were obtained through biaxial stretching,which showed much higher tensile strength and the elongation at break than that of neat PLA and PLA/POE *** work provides a facile method for fabricating toughening PLA films with application potentials.

Data Traffic Reduction with Compressed Sensing in an AIoT System

To provide Artificial Intelligence(AI)services such as object detection,Internet of Things(IoT)sensor devices should be able to send a large amount of data such as images and ***,this inevitably causes IoT networks to be severely *** this paper,therefore,we propose a novel oneM2M-compliant Artificial Intelligence of Things(AIoT)system for reducing overall data traffic and offering object *** consists of some IoT sensor devices with random sampling functions controlled by a compressed sensing(CS)rate,an IoT edge gateway with CS recovery and domain transform functions related to compressed sensing,and a YOLOv5 deep learning function for object detection,and an IoT *** analyzing the effects of compressed sensing on data traffic reduction in terms of data rate per IoT sensor device,we showed that the proposed AIoT system can reduce the overall data traffic by changing compressed sensing rates of random sampling functions in IoT sensor *** addition,we analyzed the effects of the compressed sensing on YOLOv5 object detection in terms of performance metrics such as recall,precision,mAP50,and mAP,and found that recall slightly decreases but precision remains almost constant even though the compressed sensing rate decreases and that mAP50 and mAP are gradually degraded according to the decreased compressed sensing ***,if proper compressed sensing rates are chosen,the proposed AIoT system will reduce the overall data traffic without significant performance degradation of YOLOv5.

The growing demand for smart wearables, coupled with the omnipresence of graphene due to its array of outstanding thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties, have driven the industry-led initiatives to develop lightweight, smart, and robust graphene-based wearable technologies. The substantial research and the increase in technology readiness levels (TRLs) of graphene-based technologies have led to the adoption of graphene in many industries. Graphene-based wearables are one such technology that involves closer interaction of graphene by the end-user. Despite this, understanding the toxicological risks associated with using graphene-based wearables is still in the fundamental stage. Herein, graphene-based wearables and industrial-scale fabrication techniques for the development of graphene-based wearables are reviewed. The main goal of the review is to initially evaluate the likelihood of user exposure to graphene from the wearable device and the potential health effects. The subsequent health risks based on graphene's physicochemical characteristics are also discussed. A framework to elucidate the risk is presented in terms of crucial exposure routes, possible graphene interactions, recent exposure assessments, detection removal techniques from the human body, and risk management protocols. It is hoped that this review may aid towards establishing a reasonable practice concerning the safe integration of graphene materials into wearables and facilitate their commercialization.

Detecting Inhomogeneity in Daily Climate Series Using Wavelet Analysis

A wavelet method was applied to detect inhomogeneities in daily meteorological series, data which are being increasingly applied in studies of climate extremes. The wavelet method has been applied to a few well- established long-term daily temperature series back to the 18th century, which have been ＂homogenized＂ with conventional approaches. Various types of problems remaining in the series were revealed with the wavelet method. Their influences on analyses of change in climate extremes are discussed. The results have importance for understanding issues in conventional climate data processing and for development of improved methods of homogenization in order to improve analysis of climate extremes based on daily data.

Design,application and verification of a novel system utilizing bacteria and microalgae to treat swine farm wastewater and produce value-added biomass

Swine farm wastewater is extremely harmful to the environment if not treated before it is *** this study,a system was developed and optimized for testing the high levels of organic matter in swine farm wastewater utilizing a microalgae/bacteria co-culture combined with a novel closed-loop extraction and dilution ***,the system produces biomass that also could be harvested and used in value-added *** efficacy of biomass as a biofertilizer was demonstrated by using a model plant of *** addition,the analysis of biomass indicates that it also has potential as a source for *** a 20-d cultivation period,a yield of biomass was achieved to 2.063 g/L of *** highest removal rates recorded in steady state conditions were:13.8 mg/L·d of Total Nitrogen(TN);11.5 mg/L·d of Ammonia Nitrogen(NH_(4)^(+)-N);24.8 mg/L·d of Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD);and 16.9 mg/L·d of Total Phosphorus(TP).After cultivation,the composition of the biomass was analyzed on a dry basis;the major components were protein(44.9%),lipids(24.6%),carbohydrates(19.9%),Chlorophyll-A(2.75%),Chlorophyll-B(1.66%),and carotenoids(0.57%).This biomass was diluted with water(5%by weight)and used as a biofertilizer to grow *** results showed that the average root and stem lengths of Arabidopsis were 43.0%and 55.0%longer compared to those of the control ***,the number of leaves and the maximum leaf length increased by 30.2%and 39.7%;and the fresh and dry leaf weights increased by 44.0%and 33.7%,*** results demonstrate the efficacy of this system for treating swine farm wastewater whilst simultaneously producing a value-added microalgae/bacteria *** paper also demonstrated the use of biomass as a fertilizer for cultivating a value-added crop and,based on the compositional analyses,propose that the biomass could be used as a raw material for biofuel production due to its high lipid content of 24.6%.By cons

Ionospheric longitudinal variations at midlatitudes: Incoherent scatter radar observation at Millstone Hill

Incoherent scatter radar (ISR) extra-wide coverage experiments during the period of 1978-2011 at Millstone Hill are used to investigate longitudinal differences in electron density. This work is motivated by a recent finding of the US east-west coast difference in TEC suggesting a combined effect of changing geomagnetic declination and zonal winds. The current study provides strong supporting evidence of the longitudinal change and the plausible mechanism by examining the climatology of electron density Ne on both east and west sides of the radar with a longitude separation of up to 40o for different heights within 300-450 km. Main findings include: 1) The east-west difference can be up to 60% and varies over the course of the day, being positive (East side Ne > West side Ne) in the late evening, and negative (West side Ne > East side Ne) in the pre-noon. 2) The east-west difference exists throughout the year. The positive (relative) difference is most pronounced in winter; the negative (relative) difference is most pronounced in early spring and later summer. 3) The east-west difference tends to enhance toward decreasing solar activity, however, with some seasonal dependence; the enhancements in the positive and negative differences do not take place simultaneously. 4) Both times of largest positive and largest negative east-west differences in Ne are earlier in summer and later in winter. The two times differ by 12-13 h, which remains constant throughout the year. 5) Variations at different heights from 300-450 km are similar. Zonal wind climatology above Millstone Hill is found to be perfectly consistent with what is expected based on the electron density difference between the east and west sides of the site. The magnetic declination-zonal wind mechanism is true for other longitude sectors as well, and may be used to understand longitudinal variations elsewhere. It may also be used to derive thermospheric zonal winds.

Selective catalytic NO_x reduction on Antimony promoted V_2O_5-Sb/TiO_2 catalyst

Quantum chemical calculation was carried out to choose a promoter which can reduce the poisoning of V2O5/TiO2 catalysts by SO2. Several atoms were chosen as candidates and new catalysts were synthesized by impregnation method. The NOx conversion rate was measured at temperatures between 100 and 400 ℃ and poisoning effect was investigated. The most promising candidate promoter, Se, was excluded because of its high vapor pressure. On the other hand, Sb shows best promoting properties. Sb promoted catalyst reaches the maximum NOx conversion rate at 250 ℃. It also shows considerably enhanced resistance to poisoning of V2O5/TiO2 catalysts by SO2.
