Deep learning long short-term memory combined with discrete element method for porosity prediction in gravel-bed rivers

The porosity of gravel riverbed material often is an essential parameter to estimate the sediment transport rate, groundwater-river flow interaction, river ecosystem, and fluvial geomorphology. Current methods of porosity estimation are time-consuming in simulation. To evaluate the relation between porosity and grain size distribution(GSD), this study proposed a hybrid model of deep learning long Short-Term Memory(LSTM) combined with the Discrete Element Method(DEM). The DEM is applied to model the packing pattern of gravel-bed structure and fine sediment infiltration processes in threedimensional(3D) space. The combined approaches for porosity calculation enable the porosity to be determined through real time images, fast labeling to be applied, and validation to be done. DEM outputs based on the porosity dataset were utilized to develop the deep learning LSTM model for predicting bed porosity based on the GSD. The simulation results validated with the experimental data then segregated into 800 cross sections along the vertical direction of gravel pack. Two DEM packing cases, i.e., clogging and penetration are tested to predict the porosity. The LSTM model performance measures for porosity estimation along the z-direction are the coefficient of determination(R~2), root mean squared error(RMSE), and mean absolute error(MAE) with values of 0.99, 0.01, and 0.01 respectively, which is better than the values obtained for the Clogging case which are 0.71, 0.14, and 0.03, respectively. The use of the LSTM in combination with the DEM model yields satisfactory results in a less complex gravel pack DEM setup, suggesting that it could be a viable alternative to minimize the simulation time and provide a robust tool for gravel riverbed porosity prediction. The simulated results showed that the hybrid model of the LSTM combined with the DEM is reliable and accurate in porosity prediction in gravel-bed river test samples.

A multiscalar and nonrenormalizable B-L extension of the standard model(SM)with S_(4)symmetry which successfully explains the recently observed neutrino oscillation data is *** tiny neutrino masses and their hierarchies are generated via the type-I seesaw *** model reproduces the recent experiments of neutrino mixing angles and Dirac CP violating phase in which the atmospheric angle(θ_(23))and the reactor angle(θ_(13))get the best-fit values while the solar angle(θ_(12))and Dirac CP violating phase(δ)are in 3σrange of the best-fit value for the normal hierarchy(NH).For the inverted hierarchy(IH),θ13 gets the best-ft value andθ_(23)together withδare in the lσrange,whileθ12 is in 3δrange of the best-fit *** effective neutrino masses are pre-dicted to be(m_(ee))=6.81 meV for the NH and(m_(ee))=48.48 meV for the IH,in good agreement with the most re-cent experimental data.

Phylogenetic Analysis of Baculovirus Isolates from Diseased Insects in Southern Vietnam

The aim of this study was to investigate the molecular identification and assess the genetic relationship of baculovirus isolated from Southern Vietnam. The diseased insect samples were collected from the different fields. The partial sequence of 450 base pairs of lef-8 gene was amplified and sequenced to assess the genetic variations of baculovirus isolates specific for Spodoptera litura, Helicoverpa zea, and Helicoverpa armigera. The sequences alignment demonstrated that Helicoverpa zea specific isolates exhibited six single nucleotide polymorphic sites. Whereas, twenty five single polymorphic sites were found in Spodoptera litura specific isolates. Thus, Spodoptera litura specific isolates were higher polymorphic than Helicoverpa zea specific isolates. The genetic distance analyses showed that the distance between Vietnamese baculovirus isolates and Group II Alphabaculovirus isolates was lower than other Baculovirus groups. The phylogeny of Vietnamese isolates in relation to other baculovirus isolates was also determined using partial sequences of lef-8 gene. The phylogenetic tree placed all Vietnamese isolates in Group II Alphabaculovirus, where seven Vietnamese Helicoverpa zea specific isolates were most closely related to Helicoverpa zea SNPV, fourteen Vietnamese Spodoptera litura specific isolates were located with Spodoptera litura NPV-G2 in one clade and a Vietnamese Helicoverpa armigera isolate was appeared to be closely related to Helicoverpa armigera SNPV-NNg1, Helicoverpa armigera NPV-C1, Helicoverpa armigera NPV-G4.

In the past decade, researchers in the fields of energy production have concentrated on the improvement of new energy storage devices. Lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) and faradaic supercapacitors(FSs) have attracted special attention as a result of the rapid development of new electrode nanomaterials, especially hybrid nanomaterials, which can meet the increasingly higher requirements for future energy, such as the capability to deliver high-power performance and an extremely long life cycle. In these hybrid nanostructures, a series of synergistic effects and unique properties arising from the combination of individual components are a major factor leading to improved charge/discharge capability, energy density, and system lifetime. This paper describes the most recent progress in the growth of hybrid electrode materials for LIBs and FSs systems, focusing on the combination of zero-dimensional(0 D), one-dimensional(1 D), two-dimensional(2 D), and three-dimensional(3 D) nanomaterials, respectively.

Novel hybrid models of ANFIS and metaheuristic optimizations (SCE and ABC) for prediction of compressive strength of concrete using rebound hammer field test

In this study,we developed novel hybrid models namely Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)optimized by Shuffled Complex Evolution(SCE)on the one hand and ANFIS with Artificial Bee Colony(ABC)on the other *** were used to predict compressive strength(Cs)of concrete relating to thirteen concrete-strength affecting parameters which are easy to determine in the *** and laboratory tests data of 108 structural elements of 18 concrete bridges of the Ha long-Van Don Expressway,Vietnam were *** dataset was randomly divided into a 70:30 ratio,for training(70%)and testing(30%)of the hybrid *** of the developed fuzzy metaheuristic models was evaluated using standard statistical metrics:Correlation Coefficient(R),Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)and Mean Absolute Error(MAE).The results showed that both of the novel models depict close agreement between experimental and predicted ***,the ANFIS-ABC model reflected better convergence of the results and better performance compared to that of ANFIS-SCE in the prediction of the concrete ***,the ANFIS-ABC model can be used for the quick and accurate estimation of compressive strength of concrete based on easily determined parameters for the design of civil engineering structures including bridges.

Collagen provides tissue strength and structural *** fication of the orientated dispersion of collagen fibers is an important factor when studying the mechanical properties of the *** this study,for the first time,a new method for rapid characterization of the collagen fiber orientations of the cervix using linearly polarized light colposcopy is presented.A total of 24 colposcopic images were captured using a cross-polarized imaging system with white LED light *** the preprocessing stage,the Red channel of the RGB image was chosen,which contains no information of the blood vessels because of the low-absorption of blood cells in the red ***,which is an ImageJ plug-in,was used to estimate the local orientation of the collagen *** result shows that in the nonpregnant cervix,the middle zone(Zone 2)has circumferentially aligned collagen fibers while the inner zone(Zone 1)has randomly *** collagen fiber dispersion in Zone 2 is much smaller than that in Zone 1 at all four quadrants region(anterior,posterior,left,and right quadrant).This new analysis technique could potentially combine with diagnostic tools to provide a quantitative platform of collagen fibers in the clinic.

Land subsidence prediction for a new urban mass rapid transit line in Hanoi

The rapidly increasing population,urbanization,and industrialization of Hanoi city in the last few decades have necessitated the urgent development of a new underground public transport infrastructure such as the urban mass rapid transit(UMRT)system that is now under ***,concerns on the possible effects of land subsidence on the to-be-constructed and operated UMRT lines must be *** of the difficulties while assessing land subsidence in Hanoi is the insufficient subsidence monitoring ***,a good geotechnical characterization of the subsoil profile and proper numerical analysis can help predict groundwater pumping-induced subsidence *** UMRT line No.2 that was selected for this study is special as it runs across the old quarter downtown,located at the very heart of Hanoi *** this paper,the Hanoi aquifer system,groundwater extraction,and subsidence monitoring network of Hanoi are reviewed *** data from 30 investigation boreholes were analyzed to characterize the subsoil profile underlying a segment of the UMRT line No.2 that consists of both elevated and underground *** soil layers were identified up to a depth of 50 m,including a compressible soft clay layer 10-15 m thick that is supposed to be most vulnerable to subsidence by groundwater *** on the long-term groundwater monitoring data,one-dimensional finite element method(FEM)consolidation analyses were carried out for three drawdown boundary conditions of 5,10,and 15 m and yielded a total subsidence of 0.15,0.35,and 0.5 m,respectively,after 25 years with 1994 as the reference *** results of this study confirmed that land subsidence in particular should be considered in the construction and maintenance of the UMRT lines in Hanoi,in particular for underground sections that are founded on soft to medium clay layers.

BACKGROUND Twin reversed arterial perfusion(TRAP) sequence is an extremely rare congenital anomaly in monochorionic(MC) *** condition is characterized by a malformed fetus(acardiac twin) without cardiac activities being perfused by a structurally normal one(pump twin) via an artery-to-artery anastomosis in a reverse *** SUMMARY We described the first case of TRAP to receive laser surgery in *** 26-wk pregnancy was originally misdiagnosed in another hospital as MC twins with single intrauterine fetal *** admission to our center,the diagnosis was amended to a 26-wk TRAP sequence stage *** acardiac twin was 7.5 cm at the longest length,the ratio of the weight of the acardiac twin to the weight of the pump twin was more than 90%,the pump twin showed fetal distress with absent diastolic flow in umbilical artery of pump twin,and the peak systolic velocity in the middle cerebral artery = 1.6 Mo *** performed emergency laser photocoagulation of the acardiac twin’s umbilical *** surgery,we successfully maintained the pregnancy for 8 wk and ended it electively by cesarean section at 34 wk of gestation due to rupture of *** TRAP should be appropriately diagnosed and treated early to avoid complications of the pump *** laser photocoagulation is a new and effective treatment for this condition.
