Bacterial volatiles elicit differential olfactory responses in insect species from the same and different trophic levels

Insect communities consist of species from several trophic levels that have to forage for suitable resources among and within larger patches of *** locate their resources,insects use diverse stimuli,including olfactory,visual,acoustic,tactile and gustatory *** most research has focused on cues derived from plants and other insects,there is mounting evidence that insects also respond to volatile organic compounds(VOCs)emitted by ***,to date little is known about how the olfactory response of insects within and across different trophic levels is affected by bacterial *** this study,we used Y-tube bioassays and chemical analysis of VOCs to assess how VOCs emitted by bacteria affect the olfactory response of insects of the same and different trophic *** were performed using two aphid species(Amphorophora idaei Börner and myzus persicae *** Blackman),three primary parasitoid species(Aphidius colemani Viereck,*** Haliday,and *** Viereck),and two hyperparasitoid species(Asaphes suspensus Nees and dendrocerus aphidum Rondani).Olfactory responses were evaluated for three bacterial strains(Bacillus pumilus ST18.16/133,Curtobacterium ***18.16/085,and Staphylococcus saprophyticus ST18.16/160)that were isolated from the habitat of the *** revealed that insects from all trophic levels responded to bacterial volatiles,but olfactory responses varied between and within trophic *** bacteria produced the same set of volatile compounds,but often in different relative *** 11 of these volatiles we found contrasting correlations between their concentration and the behavior of the primary parasitoids and ***,olfactometer experiments on three of these compounds confirmed the contrasting olfactory responses of primary parasitoids and *** potential of these findings for the development of novel semiochemical-based strategies to improve

Nutrient pollution of air and water is a persistent problem in ***,the pollution sources are often analyzed separately,preventingthe formulation of integrative *** study aimed to quantify the contribution of agriculture to air,river and coastal water pollution by nutrients.A new mARINA-Nutrients model was developed for Europe to calculate inputs of nitrogen(N)and phosphorus(P)to land and rivers,N emissions to air,and nutrient export to seas by river *** current practice,inputs of N and P to land were 34.4 and 1.8 ***^(-1),***,only 12%of N and 3%of P reached the *** was responsible for 55%of N and sewage for 67%of P in *** N emissions to air from agriculture were calculated at 4.0 ***^(-1).Almost twofifths of N emissions to air were from animal housing and *** a third of the basin area was considered as pollution hotspots and generated over half of N emissions to air and nutrient pollution in *** 25%of river export of N ended up in the Atlantic Ocean and of P in the mediterranean *** results could support environmental policies to reduce both air and water pollution simultaneously,and avoid pollution swapping.

It is shown that a germ of a holomorphic mapping sending a real-analytic generic submanifold of finite type into another is determined by its projection on the Segre variety of the target manifold. A necessary and sufficient condition is given for a germ of a mapping into the Segre variety of the target manifold to be the projection of a holomorphic mapping sending the source manifold into the target. An application to the biholomorphic equivalence problem is also given.

Where a virtual representation of the Earth must contain data values observed within the physical Earth system,data models are required that allow the integration of data across the silos of various Earth and environmental sciences *** a mapping between the well-defined terminologies of these silos is a stubborn *** paper presents a generalised ontology for use within Web 3.0 services,which builds on European Commission spatial data infrastructure *** presented ontology acknowledges that there are many complexities to the description of environmental properties which can be observed within the physical Earth *** ontology is shown to be flexible and robust enough to describe concepts drawn from a range of Earth science disciplines,including ecology,geochemistry,hydrology and *** paper also demonstrates the alignment and compatibility of the ontology with existing systems and shows applications in which the ontology may be deployed.

A Novel ABA Insensitive mutant of Lotus japonicus with a Wilty Phenotype Displays Unaltered Nodulation Regulation

An ABA insensitive mutant, Beyma, was isolated in Lotus japonicus mG-20 from an EmS mutagenesis population using root growth inhibition to applied ABA as the screening criterion. （The name ＂Beyma＂ was taken from the Australian Aboriginal language, Wagiman, beyma, meaning ‘drying up＇.） The stable mutant that segregates as a dominant mendelian mutation is insensitive to ABA induced inhibition of germination, vegetative growth, stomatal opening, as well as nodulation. Tissue ABA levels were normal, suggesting a sensitivity rather than biosynthesis mutation. It is slow-growing （50-70% of wild-type mG-20） and has a near-constitutive wilty phenotype associated with its inability to regulate stomatal opening. Whilst showing a wide range of ABA insensitive phenotypes, Beyma did not show alteration of nodule number control, as, in the absence of added ABA, the number and patterning （but not size） of nodules formed in the mutant were similar to that of mG-20. Split root experiments on mG-20 showed that application of ABA on one side of the root inhibited nodulation locally but not systemically. We propose that ABA is not involved directly in systemic autoregulation of nodulation （AON）.

On some aspects of minimum redundancy maximum relevance feature selection

The feature selection is an important challenge in many areas of machine learning because it plays a crucial role in the interpretations of machine-driven decisions. There are various approaches to the feature selection problem and methods based on the information theory comprise an important ***, the minimum redundancy maximum relevance(m RmR) feature selection is undoubtedly the most popular one with widespread application. In this paper, we prove in contrast to an existing finding that the m RmR is not equivalent to max-dependency criterion for first-order incremental feature selection. We present another form of equivalence leading to a generalization of m RmR feature selection. Additionally,we compare several feature selection methods based on m RmR, max-dependency, and feature ranking,employing different measures of dependency. The results on high-dimensional real-world datasets show that the distance correlation is the suitable measure for dependency-based feature selection methods. The results also indicate that the max-dependency incremental algorithm combined with distance correlation appears to be a promising feature selection approach.

The Alto moxotóTerrane of the Borborema Province presents a wide exposure of Paleoproterozoic crust,but unlike other continental blocks of South America,its orogenic history is strongly obliterated by late Neoproterozoic *** isotopic and geochemical studies were conducted in mafic-ultramafic(Fazenda Carmo Suite)and granitic-gneissic rocks(Riacho do Navio Suite)within the *** former present zircon U-Pb crystallization ages at ca.2.13 Ga,whereas Sm-Nd data suggests a juvenile origin via melting of early Paleoproterozoic to Archean peridotitic *** data for these rocks are compatible with tholeiitic magmas with some degree of crustal contamination and trace element distribution points to a continental-arc related setting interpreted as remnants of the early stages of *** contrast,the Riacho do Navio Suite was emplaced at ca.2.08 Ga and has highly negativeεNd(t)values indicating crustal *** suite displays calc-alkali to alkali-calcic and ferroan geochemical signatures compatible with Cordilleran *** addition,trace-element distribution as well as discriminant diagrams suggest that the precursor magmas were generated during the later stages of a continental arc or in a syn-collisional *** on our results,we suggest that the studied units might represent missing pieces of a Paleoproterozoic accretionary orogen that formed the crustal framework of the Alto moxotóTerrane,and that this represents a block associated with assembly of the Nuna/Columbia supercontinent,which is now largely hidden within the Neoproterozoic orogenic belts of West Gondwana.

A generic and extensible model for the martensite start temperature incorporating thermodynamic data mining and deep learning framework

The martensite start temperature is a critical parameter for steels with metastable *** numerous models have been developed to predict the martensite start(ms)temperature,the complexity of the martensitic transformation greatly limits their performance and *** this work,we apply deep data mining of thermodynamic calculations and deep learning to develop a generic model for *** data mining was used to establish a hierarchical database with three levels of ***,a convolutional neural network model,which can accurately treat the hierarchical data structure,was used to obtain the final *** integrating thermodynamic calculations,traditional machine learning and deep learning modeling,the final predictor model shows excellent generalizability and extensibility,*** performance both within and beyond the composition range of the original *** effects of 15 alloying elements were considered successfully using the proposed *** work suggests that,with the help of deep data mining considering the physical mechanisms,deep learning methods can partially mitigate the challenge with limited data in materials science and provide a means for solving complex problems with small databases.

Exercise attenuates bone mineral density loss during diet-induced weight loss in adults with overweight and obesity:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:Weight-loss-induced fat loss improves cardiometabolic health in individuals with overweight and obesity;however,weight loss can also result in bone loss and increased fracture ***-loss-induced bone loss may be attenuated with *** aim was to compare changes in bone mineral density(BmD)in adults with overweight and obesity who undertook diet-induced weight loss alone or in combination with ***:We included randomized controlled trials(RCTs)in adults with overweight or obesity(aged-18 years;body mass index-25 kg/m^(2))that prescribed diet-induced weight loss alone or in combination with supervised exercise,and measured any bone structural *** of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias ***-effects meta-analyses determined mean changes and net mean differences(95%confidence intervals(95%CIs))in the percentage of areal BmD(aBmD)change between ***:We included 9 ***-induced weight loss led to significant losses in femoral neck aBmD(mean change:-1.73%(95%CI:-2.39%to-1.07%),pmD(-2.19%(95%CI:-3.84%to-0.54%),p=0.009).Femoral neck aBmD losses were significantly greater in the diet-induced weight loss group compared to the exercise plus diet-induced weight loss group(net difference:-0.88%(95%CI:-1.73%to-0.03%));however,there were no differences in aBmD changes at any other skeletal site:total hip(-1.96%(95%CI:-4.59%to 0.68%))and lumbar spine(-0.48%(95%CI:-1.81%to 0.86%)).aBmD changes did not differ significantly according to exercise modality(resistance exercise,aerobic exercise,or a combination of the two)during diet-induced weight ***:Diet-induced weight loss led to greater femoral neck bone loss compared to diet-induced weight loss plus *** loss at the total hip and lumbar spine was not attenuated by exercise during diet-induced weight *** lack of consistent skeletal benefits may be due to the insufficient duration and/or training intensities
