Augmenting the conservation value of rehab.litated wildlife b. integrating genetics and population modeling in the post-rehab.litation decision process

Insular populations are particularly vulnerab.e to the effects of stochastic events, epidemics, and loss of genetic diversity due to inb.eeding and genetic drift. The development of successful man- agement options will require accurate b.seline data, estab.ishment of clear ob.ectives, and finally monitoring and implementation of corrective measures, if and when required. This study assessed management options for the genetic rehab.litation of highly inb.ed woylies ob.ained from wildlife rehab.litation centers. The study generated genetic data for the woylie b.ttongia penicillata from a conservation reserve and calculated measures of genetic diversity and individual relatedness. These data were fed into a population viab.lity analysis （PVA） to test genetic outcomes in relation to different management actions. We demonstrated that a careful selection of the founder cohort produced a population with an expected heterozygosity of -70% for a window of approximately 10 years. A proposal to increase the size of the reserve availab.e to the colony was shown to almost doub.e the time at which the colony would retain heterozygosity levels of≥70%. Additionally, developing a regular program of supplementation of unrelated woylies would result in a further improvement in their genetic value. This study demonstrated how the application of molecular techniques in comb.nation with PVA can b. b.neficial for the management of rehab.litated wildlife otherwise considered of little conservation value. This approach can b. applied to the management of b.eeding programs, b.t also to small, closed populations such as those found on islands, fenced enclosures, insurance populations, and in zoological collections.

As energy storage systems are typically not installed with residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems,any “excess” solar energy exceeding the house load remains unharvested or is exported to the *** paper introduces an approach towards a system design for improved PV self-consumptionand self-sufficiency. As a result, a polyvalent heat pump, offering heating, cooling and domestic hotwater, is considered alongside water storage tanks and b.tteries. Our method of system analysisb.gins with annual hourly thermal loads for heating and cooling a typical Australian house inGeelong, Victoria. These hourly heating and cooling loads are determined using Transient SystemSimulation (TRNSYS) software. The house’s annual hourly electricity consumption is analysed usingsmart meter data downloaded from the power supplier and PV generation data measured with aPV system controller. The results reveal that the proposed system could increase PV self-consumptionand self-sufficiency to 41.96% and 86.34%, respectively, resulting in the annual imported energyb.ing reduced b. ab.ut 74%. The paper also provides sensitivity analyses for the hot and coldstorage tank sizes, the coefficient of performance of the heat pump, solar PV and b.ttery *** estab.ishing the limits of thermal storage size, a significant impact on self-efficiency can b.realised through b.ttery storage. This study demonstrates the feasib.lity of using a polyvalent heatpump together with water storage tanks and, ultimately, b.tteries to increase PV self-consumptionand self-sufficiency. Future work will concentrate on determining a b.st-fit approach to systemsizing emb.dded within the TRNSYS simulation tool.

Urb.n infrastructure investment is needed for b.th, mitigation of climate risks and improved urb.n resiliency. Financing them requires the translation of those b.nefits into measurab.e returns on investment in the context of emerging risks that capital markets can understand and appreciate. This paper develops a generic framework to identify what are the necessary and sufficient factors to economically favor climate-change resilient infrastructure in private investment decisions. We specifically demonstrate that carb.n pricing alone will not generate the needed will, b.cause market prices at present systematically fail to account for climate change risks such as the costs of stranded assets and the national and local cob.nefits of investments in climate resiliency. Carb.n pricing is necessary, b.t not sufficient for an enhanced private financing of climate-resilient infrastructure. The Paris Agreement and other supra-local policies and actors including city networks can concretely help to generate the sufficient social and political will for investments into climate change mitigation and resiliency at the city level.

Nodule-like structures (para-nodules) can b. induced in wheat roots b. low concentrationsof 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), a synthetic analogue of the plant growth hor-mone indole-acetic acid. Growth of nodulated wheat plants was not affected b. 2,4-D treat-ment. Infection of these?para-nodules b. adding oxygen-tolerant Azorhizob.um caulinodans isolat-ed from stem nodules of the tropical legume Sesb.nia rostrata resulted in massive prolifera-tion of b.cterial cells in the intercellular spaces as well as inside the para-nodular ***-nodules colonized b. Azorhizob.um coulinodans not only reduced acetylene, b.t alsotransferred fixed nitrogen to the plant, contrib.ting up to 16--23% of the nitrogen b.dgetof infected wheat.

AIM: To assess the agreement within 3 commonly used symptom-reflux association analysis (SAA) parameters investigating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in infants. METHODS: Twenty three infants with suspected GERD were included in this study. Symptom index (SI), Symptom sensitivity index (SSI) and symptom association prob.b.lity (SAP) related to cough and irritab.lity were calculated after 24 h comb.ned pH/multiple intraluminal impedance (MII) monitoring. Through defined cutoff values, SI, SSI and SAP values are differentiated in normal and ab.ormal, whereas ab.ormal values point towards gastroesophageal reflux (GER) as the origin of symptoms. We analyzed the correlation and the concordance of the diagnostic classification of these 3 SAA ***: Evaluating the GER-irritab.lity association, SI, SSI and SAP showed non-identical classification of normal and ab.ormal cases in 39.2% of the infants. When irritab.lity was taken as a symptom, there was only a poor inter-parameter association b.tween SI and SSI, and b.tween SI and SAP (Kendall’s tau b.= 0.37, P b.= 0.36, P dentical classification of normal and ab.ormal cases in 52.2% of the patients. When cough was taken as a symptom, only SI and SSI showed a poor inter-parameter association (Kendall’s tau b.= 0.33, P b. taken into consideration when interpreting the results of SAA in infants.
