Apoptosis in the testis has two putative roles during normal spermatogenesis; limitation of the germ cell population to numbers that can be supported by the Sertoli cells, and, possibly, selective depletion of meiotic and postmeiotic abnormal germ cells. We investigated the demographic and biological correlates of the pro-apoptotic marker Fas and the anti-apoptotic marker Bcl-xL in sperm cells of fertile men. Six hundred and four men from Greenland, Poland and Ukraine were consecutively enrolled during their pregnant wife＇s antenatal visits. Semen analysis was performed as recommended by the World Health Organization. Immunofluorescence coupled to flow cytometry was utilized for detection of apoptotic markers in the sperm cell. DNA damage was assessed by flow cytometry using both the sperm chromatin structure assay （ScSA） and the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labelling （TUNEL） assay. The percentage of Fas-positive sperm cells was higher in men with high total sperm count （P〈O.01）, more motile sperms （P=-O.04） and fewer sperm head defects （P=-O.05）. These associations were consistent within and across study regions. Furthermore, testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone （FSH） and sexual hormone-binding globulin （SHBG） were significantly negatively correlated with Fas within and across regions as well. The data indicated no association between the anti-apoptotic Bcl-xL marker and semen or personal characteristics. The finding of Fas-positive sperm cells associated with better semen quality in a cohort of spouses of pregnant women seems different from previous data obtained in infertile men and warrants further investigation to clarify the biological significance of sperm apoptotic markers.

Background Within the last decade,the use of telemedicine within in primary care in the USA has greatly expanded;however,use remains uncommon in surgical *** spread of coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19)prompted healthcare institutions to limit in-person contact,resulting in an increase in telemedicine across all specialties,including pediatric *** aims of this review were to evaluate potential barriers that limited the use of telemedicine in pediatric surgery prior to the cOVID-19 period and to define how best to incorporate its use into a pediatric surgical practice going *** A scoping review was performed to identify gaps in the literature pertaining to the use of telemedicine within general pediatric surgery in the USA prior to the outbreak of ***,a focused evaluation of the legislative and organizational policies on telemedicine was ***,findings were summarized and recommendations for future research developed in the context of understanding and overcoming barriers that have plagued widespread adoption in the *** Despite evidence of telemedicine being safe and well received by adult surgical patients,a total of only three studies representing original research on the use of telemedicine within pediatric surgery were *** and organizational policies regarding telemedicine have been altered in response to cOVID-19,likely resulting in an increase in the use of telemedicine among pediatric *** Telemedicine offers a safe and effective option for patients seeking an alternative to the in-person clinic *** increased utilization of telemedicine during the cOVID-19 pandemic will provide an opportunity to learn how best to leverage the technology to decrease disparities and to overcome previous barriers.

Dear Editor,During the last decade,there has been an increase in the usage of dietary protein supplements for bodybuilding,especially among young men who work out in commercial gyms.1 Recently,it was shown that 23 of 24 dietary supplements available in fitness equipment and online shops contained anabolic steroids.2 However,these supposedly pro-androgenic supplements presumably differ from the more commonly used whey and soy protein supplements.3,4 Notwithstanding,both products are listed as dietary supplements rather than medical drugs;thus,they are not rigorously tested,5 do not necessarily list all contents,2 and consequently might contain known and unknown active components3,6.

AIM： To determine the effect of pioglitazone, a specific peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-y （PPART） ligand, on the development of acute pancreatitis （AP） and on the expression of heat shock protein 70 （HSP70） in the pancreas. METHODS： AP was induced in rats by subcutaneous infusion of ceruw was measured by laser Dopplein for 5 h. Pancreatic blood floler flowmetry. Plasma lipase activity, intedeukin-1β （IL-1β） and IL-10 were determined. Pancreatic weight and histology were evaluated and pancreatic DNA synthesis and blood flow as well as pancreatic mRNA for IL-1β and HSP70 were assessed in rats treated with pioglitazone alone or in combination with cerulein. RESULTS： Pioglitazone administered （10-100 mg/kg i.g.） 30 min before cerulein, attenuated dose-dependently the pancreatic tissue damage in cerulein-induced pancreatitis （tiP） as demonstrated by the improvement of pancreatic histology, reduction in plasma lipase activity, plasma concentration of pro-inflammatory IL-1β and its gene expression in the pancreas and attenuation of the pancreatitis-evoked fall in pancreatic blood flow. cIP increased pancreatic HSP70 mRNA and protein expression in the pancreas and this effect was enhanced by pioglitazone treatment. cONcLUSION： Pioglitazone attenuates cIP and the beneficial effect of this pioglitazone is multifactorial probably due to its anti-infiammatory activities, to the suppression of IL-1β and to the overexpression of HSP70. PPART ligands could represent a new therapeutic optionin the treatment of AP.

从环境兼容角度来设计应用于氧析出反应的电催化剂是否有效、耐用和廉价对能源转化过程至关重要.本文报告了一种快速制备低成本、原料丰富的金属催化剂制备方法.通过一步电化学沉积法在钛金属基材上制备了铁、镍、钴金属及其钴镍、钴铁二元金属纳米颗粒.采用场发射电子显微镜(FE-SEM)、能量散射X-射线能谱(EDX)、X-射线衍射光谱(XRD)、X-射线光电子能谱(XPS)和电化学技术对制备的不同纳米颗粒进行了表征.电化学结果显示,在合成的五种钛基金属纳米催化剂中,钛基上沉积钴金属纳米颗粒(Ti/co)电极在0.l mol·L^(-1)氢氧化钾溶液中氧析出反应的电催化活性最好,0.70 V(相对于银/氯化银电极)的电流密度为10.0 mA·cm^(-2).经优化后Ti/co电极的过电位(η)很小,当电流密度为10.0 mA·cm^(-2)时η为0.43 V,质量活性高达105.7 A·g^(-1),逆转频率(TOF)值为1.63×10^(-3) s^(-1),这些与当前最好的碳载铂(Pt/c)和氧化钌(RuO_2)电催化剂的性能相当.此外,通过计时电位技术对优化后Ti/co电极的耐久性进行了测试,发现该电极在碱性溶液中氧析出反应的稳定性良好.本工作制备的钛金属基材上电化学沉积金属钴纳米颗粒具有高催化活性、高稳定性、原料来源丰富、廉价且易于大规模生产,在工业化水分解领域具有潜在的应用前景.

The iron containing ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloroferrate （[c4mim]c1/Fecl3; Z = 0.5） proved to be an efficient catalyst for the solvent-free metal catalyzed Michael addition of β-keto esters and enones. Due to the ionic structure of the catalyst, a significant acceleration of the reaction rate was observed under microwave conditions. Furthermore, recycling of the ionic liquid catalyst could be performed after simply distilling off the products.

An understanding of the relative importance of extrinsic and intrinsic factors in determining the potential distribution and mating success of individuals is critical for the successful monitoring and management of pest species. Using a combination of field observations and a caged field experiment, we explored the roles of environmental and individual variation on the formation of mating aggregations and mating success in the buprestid beetle capnodis tenebrionis （Linnaeus, 1767）, a pest species of stone fruit trees. Our field observations revealed that the formation of aggregations is influenced by a range of environmental factors including temperature, photoperiod, and population density. However, aggregations were not at random and were more likely to occur on the section of the plant with highest incidence of solar radiation and thus higher temperatures. Data from our experiment with caged beetles in the field further indicate that the reproductive behavior of this species varies with temperature. The probability of a successful mating occurring was also positively related to both male and female size. Females of c. tenebrionis mate several times over a 4-h period, but generally not with the same male. Information obtained from these studies is useful to define the most appropriate time for pest control, especially adopting strategies that interfere with reproduction.
