Enhanced method for the generation of binary Fresnel holograms based on grid-cross downsampling

Past research has demonstrated that digital Fresnel holograms can be binarized in a non-iterative manner by downsampling the source image with a grid lattice prior to the hologram generation process. The reconstructed image of a hologram that is binarized with this approach is superior in quality compared with that obtained with direct thresholding, half-toning, and error diffusion. Despite the success, the downsampling mechanism results in a prominent texture of regularly spaced voids in the shaded regions. To alleviate this problem, an enhanced non-iterative method for the generation of binary Fresnel holograms is presented. Our method is based on a multi-direction line-sampling formed by a combined grid and cross lattice, which is capable of preserving a more solid texture in the shaded regions and enhancing the visual quality of the reconstructed image. computer simulations and optical reconstructions are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed technique.

This review summarizes the rapporteur report on tropical cyclone(Tc)intensity change from the operational perspective,as presented to the 10th International Workshop on Tcs(IWTc-10)held in Bali,Indonesia,from Dec.5–9,*** accuracy of Tc intensity forecasts issued by operational forecast centers depends on three aspects:real-time observations,Tc dynamical model forecast guidance,and techniques and methods used by *** rapporteur report covers the progress made over the past four years(2018–2021)in all three *** review focuses on the progress of dynamical model forecast *** companion paper(Part II)summarizes the advance from operational *** dynamical model forecast guidance continues to be the main factor leading to the improvement of operational Tc intensity ***,we describe recent advances and developments of major operational regional dynamical Tc models and their intensity forecast performance,including HWRF,HMON,cOAMPS-Tc,Met Office Regional Model,cMA-TYM,and newly developed *** performance of global dynamical models,including NOAA's GFS,Met Office Global Model(MOGM),JMA's GSM,and IFS(EcMWF),has also been improved in recent years due to their increased horizontal and vertical resolution as well as improved data assimilation *** challenging cases of rapid intensification are presented and discussed.

Purpose The purpose of the study was to investigate the acute effect of a beginner martial art class and aerobic exercise on executive function(EF)in college-aged young *** is overwhelming evidence that demonstrates acute as well as long-term aerobic exercise improves ***,there is limited research comparing externally paced exercise(EPE)to self-paced exercise(SPE)such as walking on improving *** requires greater cortical demand than SPE to execute a motor *** Eight men and eight women,aged 24.2±2.8 years,participated in a Repeated Measures crossover ***-and post-testing of EF with the Stroop and Tower of London(ToL)and stress level were measured after each of the two 1-h conditions:the SPE consisted of a walk(aerobic exercise)and the EPE was a beginner martial art *** There were significant main effects for the martial art class for the Stroop’s mean reaction time for congruent trials(P=0.01)with a large-effect *** mean reaction time for incongruent trials was significant(P=0.05)with a medium-effect *** ToL’s mean solution time(P=0.003)and mean execution time(P=0.002)were also significant with large-effect *** levels were not significantly improved following either *** The martial art class significantly improved all the major domains of EF,while aerobic exercise of a similar intensity did not demonstrate any measured significant *** physiological benefits of physical exercise are well documented;however,the cognitive enhancing capability of EPE should also be appreciated given the results of this study.

Excellent outcomes have been achieved in the field of renal transplantation. A significant reduction in acute rejection has been attained at many renal transplant centers using contemporary immunosuppressive, consisting of an induction agent, a calcineurin inhibitor, an antiproliferative agent plus or minus a corticosteroid. Despite improvements with these regimens, chronic allograft injury and adverse events still persist. The perfect immunosuppressive regimen would limit or eliminate calcineurin inhibitors and/or corticosteroid toxicity while providing enhanced allograft outcomes. Potential improvements to the calcineurin inhibitor class include a prolonged release tacrolimus formulation and voclosporin, a cyclosporine analog. Belatacept has shown promise as an agent to replace calcineurin inhibitors. A novel, fully-human anti-cD40 monoclonal antibody, ASKP1240, is currently enrolling patients in phase 2 trials with calcineurin minimization and avoidance regimens. Another future goal of transplant immunosuppression is effective and safe treatment of allograft rejection. Novel treatments for antibody mediated rejection include bortezomib and eculizumab. Several investigational agents are no longer being pursed in transplantation including the induction agents, efalizumab and alefacept, and maintenance agents, sotrastaurin and tofacitinib. The purpose of this review is to consolidate the published evidence of the effectiveness and safety of investigational immunosuppressive agents in renal transplant recipients.

Spindle-cell lipoma (ScL) is a variant of lipoma, usually presenting in the neck or trunk. ScL of the oral cavity is rare. Some cases of oral ScL have been reported;however, the clinico-pathologic characteristics of oral ScL are still unknown. Here we report on 2 cases and review 33 cases of oral ScL published in the literature. The patients were 23 men and 12 women, with a mean age of 55 years (range 23 - 88 years);there were no children. Tumor sites included: tongue (n = 13), cheek/buccal mucosa (n = 11), floor of mouth (n = 5), lip (n = 2), hard palate (n = 2), alveolar ridge (n = 1), and maxilla (n = 1). The mean tumor size was 20.87 mm (range 3 - 50 mm), smaller than extra-oral lesions. Thirty-three patients (94%) presented with a single lesion that was circumscribed and composed of mature adipocytes admixed with bland spindle cells. The spindle cells were strongly immunoreactive for cD34, whereas the adipocytes were negative. The main differential diagnosis is atypical lipoma/well-differentiated liposarcoma. All lesions underwent local excision and recurrences are rare. Oral ScL do not seem to differ from their extra-oral counterpart, which are much more common and larger in size. ScL should be included in the differential diagnosis of oral cavity mesenchymal tumors.

Background and Objective: Vocal cord paralysis results in impairment of breathing and/or speech. One of the causes of vocal cord paralysis is the disruption of vagus nerve innervation to the vocal cords by the mass effect of a neighbouring structure. We report a rare case of vocal cord paralysis secondary to internal carotid artery dissection. Method: The diagnosis was based on clinical history, physical examination and imaging studies. Literature review was done. case Report: This was a 53-year-old female with a history of unremitting, progressive hoarseness and mild dysphagia to liquid, who was clinically found to have impaired left vocal cord mobility, a left-sided pulsatile neck mass and left carotid artery dissection based on imaging studies. Symptoms abated after conservative treatment with Aspirin and she has remained symptom free since two years of follow-up. conclusion: Vocal cord paralysis can be a consequence of carotid artery dissection causing mass effect on the vagus nerve. Thus, carotid artery dissection should not be forgotten as a possible cause of vocal cord paralysis in some cases of vocal cord paralysis of uncertain etiology. Treatment with anti-platelet drug can bring about resolution of symptoms and return of vocal cord mobility.
