Fluidization and Transport of Vibrated Granular Matter:A Review.of Landmark and Recent Contributions

w. present a short retrospective review.of the existing literature about the dynamics of(dry)granular matter under the effect of *** main objective is the development of an integrated resource w.ere vital information about past findings and recent discoveries is provided in a single *** attention is paid to those w.rks w.ere successful synthetic routes to as-yet unknow. phenomena w.re *** landmark results are analyzed,w.ile smoothly blending them w.th a history of the field and introducing possible categorizations of the prevalent *** no classification is perfect,and it is hard to distillate general properties out of specific observations or realizations,tw. possible w.ys to interpret the existing results are defined according to the type of forcing or the emerging(ensuing)regime of *** particular,first results concerning the case w.ere vibrations and gravity are concurrent(vertical shaking)are examined,then the companion situation w.th vibrations perpendicular to gravity(horizontal shaking)is *** classes are introduced as follow.:(1)Regimes w.ere sand self-organizes leading to highly regular geometrical“pulsating”patterns(thin layer case);(2)Regimes w.ere the material undergoes“fluidization”and develops an internal multicellular convective state(tick layers case);(3)Regimes w.ere the free interface separating the sand from the overlying gas changes inclination or develops a kind a patterned configuration consisting of stable valleys and mountains or travelling w.ves;(4)Regimes w.ere segregation is produced,i.e.,particles of a given size tend to be separated from the other grains(deep containers).w.ere possible,an analogy or parallelism is draw. w.th respect to the companion field of fluid-dynamics for w.ich the assumption of“continuum”can be applied.

A computation design method for architectural artifacts adapted from traditional Kagome bamboo basketry techniques

This study is a digital form-finding and manual fabrication experiment in w.ven architectural design,w.th one traditional w.aving style,Kagome,used to scale the craft up into an architectural-scale bamboo w.ven *** is a trihexagonal pattern employed in traditional bamboo basketry as a triaxial w.aving system,resulting in an object w.th a self-bracing capacity w.thout the use of fasteners ow.ng to its interlacing *** existing studies and tools have addressed triaxial w.aving design and representation,the current consideration of the advantages of w.aving w.th bamboo is *** address this research gap,this study develops a computational design method based on studies on bamboo *** allow. for the representation and exploration of design geometries using combinations of regular triangular meshes for the fabrication of Kagome w.ven bamboo artifacts.A full-scale mock-up w.s fabricated to evaluate the effectiveness of the *** mock-up demonstrated the self-bracing properties of Kagome,but there w.re discrepancies betw.en the mock-up and the *** affecting bamboo w.aving on an architectural scale have been identified w.thin this study to inform future research on w.ven bamboo structures.

Pre-Cryogenian integrative stratigraphy,biotas,and paleogeographical evolution of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas

The composition and geological evolution of pre-Cryogenian material in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas have played an important role in studying the formation and evolution of early supercontinents on *** paper systematically summarizes the characteristics of pre-Cryogenian sedimentation,paleontology,magmatism,and metamorphism in the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding *** on existing data,the records of pre-Cryogenian sedimentation and paleontology are mainly concentrated in the Meso-Neoproterozoic,w.th relatively few.records from the Paleoproterozoic or *** oldest geological record is the Hadean detrital zircons in the metamorphosed sedimentary rocks of the Himalaya and Qamdo areas(ca.4.0 Ga).The Tibetan Plateau and surrounding areas preserve records related to the formation and evolution of the Kenor supercraton,and the Columbia,Rodinia,and Gondw.na ***-Cryogenian basements can be divided into three types:Tarim-,Yangtze-,and *** Tarim-type basement has a paleogeographic affinity w.th the northern margins of the Australian and Indian continents and lacks detrital zircon age peaks and magmatic-metamorphic records related to the Rodinia assembly(ca.1.3-0.9 Ga).The Yangtze-type basement records volcanic activity related to global cooling in the latest pre-Cryogenian period and contains Meso-Neoproterozoic stromatolite and micropaleoflora fossils,as w.ll as magmaticmetamorphic records related to Rodinia assembly(ca.1.1-1.0 Ga).The Lhasa-type basement is characterized by Neoproterozoic rift-related sediment records(ca.900 Ma)and high-pressure metamorphic events(ca.650 Ma),w.th a prominent peak of detrital zircon ages of ca.1.2-1.1 *** is likely to have a paleogeographic affinity w.th the African continent.

Spatial and temporal patterns of sarcoptic mange in w.mbats using the citizen science tool,w.mSAT

There is currently limited information regarding the levels of infection and distribution of sarcoptic mange in the w.mbat population throughout *** analyzed cases of sarcoptic mange in bare-nosed w.mbats reported into w.mSAT,a w.bsite and mobile phone application w.ere citizen scientists can upload sightings of w.mbats,burrow.,and sarcoptic mange *** used Maxent softw.re to predict locations and the environmental factors associated w.th sarcoptic mange occurrence in bare-nosed w.mbats.A total of 1379 sarcoptic mange-infected and 3043 non-sarcoptic mange-infected w.mbats w.re reported by 674 and 841 citizen scientists,*** all the w.mbats reported to w.mSAT from 2015 to 2019,31.2%w.re infected w.th sarcoptic *** mange in bare-nosed w.mbats w.s reported in 502 suburbs across four *** South w.les had the highest number of sarcoptic mange cases reported to *** w.s no statistically significant seasonal variation of sarcoptic mange levels in bare-nosed *** model show.d that Euclidean distance to urban areas w.s the highest contributing factor for sarcoptic mange *** distance to urban areas decreased,the suitability for sarcoptic mange *** precipitation w.s the next contributing factor in the model,w.th higher rainfall of 400–700 mm correlating to an increase in sarcoptic mange *** the data collected to date have provided the largest-scale contemporary distribution of sarcoptic mange in w.mbats,data should continue to be collected by citizen scientists as it is an easy and low.cost method of collecting data over large *** suggest targeting the identified hotspot areas and more site-specific studies for studying and mitigating sarcoptic mange in bare-nosed w.mbats.

The application field for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology and its adoption rate have been increasingsteadily in the past years. Decreasing cost of commercial drones has enabled their use at a scale broader thanever before. How.ver, increasing the complexity of UAVs and decreasing the cost, both contribute to a lack ofimplemented securitymeasures and raise new.security and safety concerns. For instance, the issue of implausible ortampered UAV sensor measurements is barely addressed in the current research literature and thus, requires moreattention from the research community. The goal of this survey is to extensively review.state-of-the-art literatureregarding common sensor- and communication-based vulnerabilities, existing threats, and active or passive cyberattacksagainst UAVs, as w.ll as shed light on the research gaps in the literature. In this w.rk, w. describe theUnmanned Aerial System (UAS) architecture to point out the origination sources for security and safety *** the coverage and completeness of each related research w.rk in a comprehensive comparison table as w.llas classify the threats, vulnerabilities and cyber-attacks into sensor-based and communication-based ***, for each individual cyber-attack, w. describe existing countermeasures or detectionmechanisms andprovide a list of requirements to ensureUAV’s security and *** also address the problem of implausible sensormeasurements and introduce the idea of a plausibility check for sensor data. By doing so, w. discover additionalmeasures to improve security and safety and report on a research niche that is not w.ll represented in the currentresearch literature.

Defining the association betw.en the prolonged operative time and 90-day complications in patients undergoing radical cystectomy

Objective:Radical cystectomy is a complex lengthy procedure associated w.th postoperative *** aimed to assess the operative time(OT)in patients undergoing radical cystectomy and its impact on 90-day postoperative complications and readmission ***:The retrospective cohort study included 296 patients undergoing radical cystectomy and urinary diversion from May 2010 to December 2018 in our *** OT of 369 min w.s set as a cutoff value betw.en short and long OT *** primary outcome w.s 90-day postoperative complication *** outcomes w.re gastrointestinal recovery time,length of hospital stay,and 90-day readmission ***:The overall incidence of 90-day postoperative complications w.s 79.7%w.ere 43.2%representing low.grade complications according to the ClavieneDindo classification(Grade 1 and Grade 2),and 36.5%representing high-grade complications(Grade3).Gastrointestinal tract and infectious complications are the most common complications in our data set(45.9%and 45.6%,respectively).On multivariable analysis,prolonged OT w.s significantly associated w.th odds of high-grade complications(odds ratio 2.340,95%confidence interval 1.288e4.250,p=0.005).After propensity score-matched analysis,a higher incidence of major complications w.s identified in the long OT group 55(51.4%)compared to 35(32.7%)in the short OT group(p=0.006).A shorter gastrointestinal tract recovery time w.s noticed in the short OT group(p=0.009).Prolonged OT w.s associated w.th a higher 90-day readmission rate on univariate and multivariate analyses(p<0.001,p=0.001,respectively).
