Timanide(Ediacaran–Early Cambrian) Metamorphism at the Transition from Eclogite to Amphibolite Facies in the Beloretsk Complex,SW-Urals,Russia

The Beloretsk Metamorphic Complex in the SW Urals formed at a convergent eastern margin of Baltica during the Neoproterozoic–Early Cambrian Timanide *** comprises three major units with lenses of facies-critical metabasites within metasedimentary rocks:A lowermost eclogite unit,an intermediate garnet amphibolite unit and an upper amphibolite-greenschist ***(p)-temperature(T)-paths of four rocks from the two lowermost units were determined mainly by pT pseudosection techniques showing similar clockwise loops at different peak metamorphic,watersaturated conditions:A phengite-bearing eclogite shows peak pT conditions of 16.5–18.5 kbar/525–550℃(stage I)followed by stage II at 11.5–13.0 kbar/585–615℃.A garnet amphibolite from the intermediate unit yields lower peak conditions of 11.7–14.5 kbar/480–510℃(stage I)followed by stage II at 9.5–11.0 kbar/535–560℃.However,a granite gneiss in the eclogite unit shows similar maximum pressures as the eclogite,but higher temperatures at 15.6–16.2 kbar/660–675℃,whereas a garnet micaschist contains comparable high pressure relicts,but underwent an advanced midcrustal reequilibration at 7.5–9.0 kbar/555–610℃.We dated the eclogite by a 7-point Rb/Sr mineral isochron(phengite,omphacite,apatite)at 532.2±9.1 Ma interpreted as age of crystallisation of the eclogitic peak pT *** age is the youngest compared to the known Timanide metamorphic and magmatic ages.

Diapause induction and termination in a commonly univoltine leaf beetle （ phratora vulgatissima）

Theleafbeetlephratoravulgatissima（Linnaeus 1758）iscommonlyunivoltine in south-central Sweden but may sometimes initiate a partial second generation. The current study was set out to investigate under what abiotic conditions the beetles initiate a second generation. Using climate chamber experiments, the beetles were shown to have a facultative reproductive diapause induced by declining day-length. The critical day-length （CDL） for diapause induction was estimated to be 18 h and 10 min. In the field, firstgeneration beetles developing to adulthood before August in 2009 became reproductively active and produced a second generation, but most individuals emerged later and were in reproductive diapause. p vulgatissima overwinter as adults and diapause was shown to be maintained until mid-winter in 2008/2009. The cumulative temperature requirement for oviposition after diapause termination was estimated to be 222 day-degrees with a 5.5℃ temperature threshold. Three different day-degree models that were developed to predict the phenology of female oviposition in the spring were validated by comparing model results with field data on the timing of oviposition in previous years. The study suggests that p vulgatissima may initiate a second generation in Sweden if development of the first generation is completed before August. Warmer spring and summer temperatures due to ongoing climate change may cause advanced insect phenology and faster completion of insect life-cycles at northern latitudes, which will affect the proportion of insects that initiate a second generation.

In this paper we extend the standard Ultra Weak Variational Formulation （UWVF） of Maxwell＇s equations in an isotropic medium to the case of an anisotropic medium. We verify that the underlying theoretical framework carries over to anisotropic media （however error estimates are not yet available） and completely describe the new scheme. We then consider TM mode scattering, show how this results in a Helmholtz equation in two dimensions with an anisotropic coefficient and demonstrate how to formulate the UWVF for it. In one special case, convergence can be proved. We then show some numerical results that suggest that the UWVF can successfully simulate wave propagation in anisotropic media.

There has been a wealth of research that has examined the nature of rework in *** toward addressing the rework problem has been limited-it still plagues practice,adversely impacting a project’s *** all rework studies have focused on determining its proximal or root causes and therefore have overlooked the conditions that result from its *** filling this void,this paper draws upon our previous empirical studies,amongst others,to provide a much-needed theoretical framing to understand better why rework occurs,what its consequences are,and how it can be mitigated during *** theoretical framing we derive from our review provides construction organizations and their projects with a realization that the journey to mitigating rework begins with creating an error-mastery culture comprising authentic leadership,psychological safety,an errormanagement orientation,and *** suggest that,once an error-mastery culture is established within construction organizations and their projects,they will be better positioned to realize the benefits of the techniques,tools,and technologies espoused to address rework,such as the Last planner® and building information *** also provide directions for future research and identify implications for practice so that strides toward rework mitigation in construction can be made.

Impact of coronavirus disease 2019 on semen parameters

Dear editor,Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2),the virus responsible for the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,has been associated with hypogonadism in patients with acute infection[1].Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)receptor is regarded as the viral binding site that facilitates entry into host cells[2].Therefore,cells that express ACE2,such as spermatogonia,Leydig,and Sertoli cells,may be susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection[2].Testicular damage may possibly be caused directly by viral invasion or secondary to the generalized inflammatory response to COVID-19[3].Studies have demonstrated that viral shedding in the semen can take place during the recovery phase,even though SARS-CoV-2 is not present in the semen of all men with COVID-19[1,4].Herein,we describe the first case report of a male with longitudinal follow-up who experienced reversible cryptozoospermia after COVID-19.

Dear Editor, plants secrete nectar to attract mutualistic animals, which predominantly function as pollinators, as in the case of flo- ral nectar, or defenders against herbivores, as in the case of extrafloral nectar （Nicolson et al., 2007）. Because nectars usu- ally represent aqueous solutions containing sugars and other nutrient metabolites （Baker and Baker, 1983）, they are sus- ceptible to infestation by microbial organisms, which can use the nectar-secreting tissues as entry sites to infect the plant. Nectar-secreting tissues thus require an efficient shield against pathogen infections. To date, our knowledge about the way that plants protect their nectar from microorganisms is rather limited.
