Long-term antifibrotic action of interferon-γ treatment in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection

BACKGROUND:The first priority in treating fibrosis is to eliminate the causes that result in liver injury,e.g.,hepatitis B and C ***,in many liver diseases the cause is either unknown or *** present study was designed to investigate the long-term antifibrotic effect of interferon-gamma(IFN-γ)treatment in patients chronically infected with hepatitis B virus. METHODS:A total of 42 patients,30 treated with IFN-γand 12 controls,were enrolled from an original clinical trial(Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol 2005;3:819.).Three serial liver biopsies that were obtained at the initiation and end of IFN-γtreatment as well as 4 to 6 years after treatment discontinuation were assessed according to the modified Chevallier scoring system. RESULTS:Twenty-five out of 30 IFN-γ-treated patients were followed up until 4 to 6 years after the treatment was stopped. However,all controls were excluded from follow-up due to death,loss and elevated virus level within 2 ***-five IFN-γ-treated patients had stable serum liver function and liver fibrosis indices without any further antiviral or anti-fibrotic *** inflammatory and fibrotic scores were found after nine months of IFN-γtreatment according to the modified Chevallier scoring system(inflammation:11.8±6.5 at the beginning of IFN-γtreatment vs.9.2±4.1 after 9 months, pppatients accepted a third serial liver biopsy 4 to 6 years after treatment discontinuation,and the fibrotic score was increased(14.2±8.3 vs.11.9±7.6 after 9 months, pproves the fibrosis score in patients with chronic HBV *** majority of patients demonstrate stable serum biochemical indices and quality of ***,they do not show a long-term benefit according to histological criteria. In this study the starch digestion rates in broiler chickens from 18 samples of 5 commonly used feed grains(sorghum,wheat,maize,barley,triticale)were *** methodology to determine starch digestion rates in poultry is detailed *** digestion rates were not significantly different(p-0.128)across the 18 feed grains,which reflects the wide variations that were observed within a given ***,starch digestion rates in broiler chickens offered wheat-based diets were significantly more rapid by 56.0%(0.117 versus 0.075 min-1;p=0.012)than their sorghum-based counterparts on the basis of a pair-wise *** descending order,the following starch diges-tion rates were observed:wheat(0.117 min-1),barley(0.104 min-1),triticale(0.093 min-1),maize(0.086 min-1),sorghum(0.075 min-1).The implications of these findings are discussed as they almost certainly have implications for poultry nutrition and the development of reduced crude protein diets for broiler chickens.

This study was to assess the impact of permanent or temporary restricted feeding on laying hen production traits,physiology,and egg *** hundred and forty individually housed ISA Brown hens were monitored across 2 phases,assigned to 3 treatments:ad libitum feeding(ALF),temporary restricted feeding(TRF)and permanent restricted feeding(pRF),n=80 hens per *** phase 1(p1),22 to40 weeks,the TRF and pRF hens were offered 115 g of feed *** phase 2(p2),41 to 46 weeks,the TRF hens were transitioned to ALF status while the ALF and pRF hens remained as in *** 35 to 40 weeks,eggs were collected once weekly from 15 hens per treatment and assessed for differences in albumen,yolk,and shell *** 45 weeks,10 hens each from the ALF and pRF groups were euthanized and differences in organ characteristics were *** p1,feed intake,feed to egg conversion ratio and body weight(BW)change were lower(pppRF and TRF hen treatments compared to hens allocated the ALF *** p2,TRF and ALF hens had a higher egg production and egg mass than pRF(pp2 was higher in TRF and similar in both ALF and pRF,while feed intake and feed conversion ratio were higher in TRF followed by ALF and least in the pRF treatment group(ppad weight and fatty liver haemorrhagic syndrome lesion score compared to *** hens to 115 g of feed per day from point of lay restrained BW,improved feed conversion ratio and albumen quality and reduced abdominal fat pad deposition and clinical signs of fatty liver haemorrhagic syndrome in individually housed laying hens.

The title compound （E）-ethyl 2-fluoro-2-（3-oxoisobenzofuran-1（3H）-ylidene） aceta- te was synthesized as an unexpected product by the reaction ofphthalyl dichloride with bis-silylenol ether, which is not in accordance with our previous studies. The title compound was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 19F NMR, GCMS, HRMS and IR. The crystal （C12HgFO4, Mr = 236.19） belongs to the monoclinic system, space group p21/c, a = 19.1609（8）, b = 7.9831（3）, c = 13.7715（6） A, V= 2106.13（15） A3, Z= 8, Dx = 1.490 Mg m-3, MoKa radiation, 2 = 0.71073 A,μ = 0.12 mm-1, F（000） = 976, the final R = 0.025 and wR = 0.1300 for 4505 observed reflections with I〉 2σ（I）.

BACKGROUND： Organ shortage has led to an increased number of transplantations from extended criteria donors. These organs are more vulnerable to ischemia-reperfusion injury. Thus, improvement of organ preservation is needed. HTK is a widely used preservation solution for static cold storage in liver transplantation. The present study was to investigate the beneficial effect of warm HTK donor pretreatment on liver preservation.

The Szent-Gyrgyi prize for progress in Cancer Research is a prestigious scientific award established by the National Foundation for Cancer Research(NFCR)—a leading cancer research charitable organization in the United States that is committed to supporting innovative cancer research on the global scale that aims to cure cancer. Each year, the Szent-Gyrgyi prize honors an outstanding researcher whose original discoveries have expanded our understanding of cancer and resulted in notable advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis, or treatment. The prize also promotes public awareness of the importance of basic cancer research and encourages the sustained investment needed to accelerate the translation of these research discoveries into new cancer treatments. This report highlights the history and mission of the Szent-Gyrgyi prize, its role in promoting discovery-oriented cancer research, and the pioneering work led by the 2014 prize winner, Dr. James Allison. Dr. Allison's work in the area of cancer immunotherapy led to the successful development of immune checkpoint therapy, and the first drug approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of metastatic melanoma.
