The identifica.ion a.d understa.ding of COVID-19 potentia. routes of tra.smission a.e funda.enta. to informing policies a.d stra.egies to successfully control the outbrea.. Va.ious studies highlighted a.ymptoma.ic infections a. one of the silent drivers of the epidemic. a. a.cura.e estima.ion of the a.ymptoma.ic ca.es a.d the understa.ding of their contribution to the sprea. of the disea.e could enha.ce the effectiveness of current control stra.egies, ma.nly ba.ed on the symptom onset, to curb tra.smission. We investiga.e the dyna.ics of the COVID-19 epidemic in Northern Irela.d during the period 1st Ma.ch 25th to December 2020 to estima.e the proportion of the a.ymptoma.ic infections in the country. We extended our previous model to include the sta.e of the a.ymptoma.ic infection, a.d we implement the corresponding deterministic model using a.publicly a.a.la.le da.a.et. We pa.tition the da.a.into 11 sets over the period of study a.d fit the model pa.a.eters on the consecutive interva.s using the cumula.ive number of confirmed positive ca.es for ea.h interva.. Moreover, we a.sess numerica.ly the impa.ts of uncerta.nty in testing a.d we provide estima.es of the reproduction numbers using the fitted pa.a.eters. We found tha. the proportion of a.ymptoma.ica.ly infectious subpopula.ions, in Northern Irela.d during the period of study, ra.ged between 5% a.d 25% of exposed individua.s. a.so, the estima.e of the ba.ic reproduction number, R0, is 3.3089. The lower a.d upper estima.es for herd immunity a.e (0.6181, 0.7243) suggesting tha. a.ound 70% of the popula.ion of Northern Irela.d should a.quire immunity via.infection or va.cina.ion, which is in line with estima.es reported in other studies.

In this study, we investiga.e the dyna.ics of the COVID-19 epidemic in Northern Irela.d from 1st Ma.ch 2020 up to 25th December 2020, using severa.>al copies of a Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Recovered (SEIR) comparta.>mental model, and compare it to a.>a.>a a.>a.>detailed publicly available dataset. We split the data into 10 time intervals and fit the models on the consecutive intervals to the cumulative number of confirmed positive cases on each interval. Using the fitted parameter estimates, we also provide estimates of the reproduction number.a. style="font-fa.ily:Verda.a."> We a.so discuss the limita.ions a.d possible extensions of the employed model.
