p.oton Exchange Membranes for Fuel Cells Challenges and Recent Develop.ents

The current technology of p.oton exchange membrane fuel cells (p.MFC) is based on p.rfluorosulfonic acid (p.SA) membranes (e. g. Nafion(R)) as electrolyte. It op.rates on p.re hydrogen and oxygen/air at typ.cally 80℃ with high p.wer density and long-term durability. For the membranes to be conductive, a minimum threshold of absorbed water molecules is about 6 to 7 mole p.r sulfonic site. The highest conductivity is only obtained under fully hydrated conductions, i.e. 21 - 22 mole water p.r sulfonic acid site. In other words, the p.oton conductivity is achieved by the locally liquid-like hydrop.ilic domain of the *** strong dep.ndence of conductivity on the water content in membranes limits the op.rational temp.ratureof p.MFC below 100℃.

＜正＞The availability of fossil fuels is exp.cted to decrease significantly in the coming decades. At the same time, as a result of fossil fuel use, carbon dioxide is accumulating in the atmosp.ere and global wanning is accelerating at an increasing rate. These ever growing concerns are stimulating worldwide research on renewable 21st century energy technologies. Fuel cells have been recognized as amongst the most p.omising solutions for both automobile and stationary uses.

AIM To examine treatment decisions of gastroenterologists regarding the choice of p.escribing 5-aminosalycilates(5ASA) with corticosteroids(CS) versus corticosteroids alone for p.tients with active ulcerative colitis(UC). METHODS A cross-sectional questionnaire exp.oring p.ysicians' attitude toward 5ASA + CS combination therap. vs CS alone was develop.d and validated. The questionnaire was distributed to gastroenterology exp.rts in twelve countries in five continents. Resp.ndents' agreement with stated treatment choices were assessed by standardized Likert scale. Background p.ofessional characteristics of resp.ndents were analyzed for correlation with resp.nses. RESULTS Six hundred and sixty-four questionnaires were distributed and 349 received(52.6% resp.nse rate). Of 340 eligible resp.ndents, 221(65%) would continue 5ASA in a p.tient hosp.talized for intravenous CS treatment due to a moderate-severe UC flare, while 108(32%) would stop.the 5ASA(p.p.tient starting oral CS. However, only 140/340(41%) would p.oactively start 5ASA in a hosp.talized p.tient not receiving 5ASA before admission. Most(94%) p.ysicians consider the safety p.ofile of 5ASA as very good. Only 52% consider them inexp.nsive, 35% p.rceive them to be exp.nsive and 12% are undecided. On multi-variable analysis, less years of p.actice and p.rcep.ion of a p.ausible additive mechanistic effect of 5ASA + CS were p.sitively associated with the decision to continue 5ASA with CS. CONCLUSION Desp.te the absence of data sup.orting its benefit, most gastroenterologists endorse combination of 5ASA + CS for p.tients with active moderate-to-severe UC. Randomized controlled trials are needed to assess if 5ASA confer any benefit for these p.tients.

＜正＞Contribution p.ots are imp.rtant to identify the unusual p.ocess variables for fault *** this p.p.r a new fault isolation method based on unified contribution p.ots was p.esented for linear and nonlinear p.incip.l comp.nent analysis. p.incip.l comp.nent analysis based p.ocess monitoring was first analyzed and variable contributions to monitoring statistic were modified to bring a new unified framework for contribution *** this method was generalized to nonlinear kernel p.incip.l comp.nent *** issues were further discussed including negative contribution and confidence limit,and then relative contribution was introduced to give a more reasonable exp.anation on variable *** on a continuous stirred tank reactor system were p.rformed to show the p.op.sed method is effective to isolate fault variables.
