Tissue-engineered rhesus monkey nerve grafts for the repair of long ulnar nerve defects:similar outcomes to autologous nerve grafts

Acellular nerve allografts can help preserve normal nerve structure and extracellular matrix composition. These allografts have low immunogenicity and are more readily available than autologous nerves for the repair of long-segment peripheral nerve defects. In this study, we repaired a 40-mm ulnar nerve defect in rhesus monkeys with tissue-engineered peripheral nerve, and compared the outcome with that of autograft. The graft was prepared using a chemical extract from adult rhesus monkeys and seeded with allogeneic Schwann cells. Pathomo- rphology, electromyogram and immunohistochemistry findings revealed the absence of palmar erosion or ulcers, and that the morphology and elasticity of the hypothenar eminence were normal 5 months postoperatively. There were no significant differences in the mean peak compound muscle action potential, the mean nerve conduction velocity, or the number of neurofilaments between the experimental and control groups. However, outcome was significantly better in the experimental group than in the blank group. These findings suggest that chemically extracted allogeneic nerve seeded with autologous Schwann cells can repair 40-mm ulnar nerve defects in the rhesus monkey. The outcomes are similar to those obtained with autologous nerve graft.

The comparative analysis and identification of secondary metabolites between Tibet wild and cultivated pomegranates(Punica granatum L.)in China

Secondary metabolites are closely related to the nutritional quality and health functions of *** investigated the secondary metabolites of both wild(n=23)and cultivated(n=27)pomegranate plants(Punica granatum L.)growing in *** total flavonoid(TF)and tannin(TT)contents from the peel and juice were determined and the secondary metabolites in the peel(ZLP)and juice(ZLZ)of‘Zela 4’were identified using liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry(LC–ESI-MS/MS).Analysis of variance(P<0.05)showed that there were significant differences in the TF content of peel(TF(P))and juice(TF(J)),and the TT content of peel(TT(P))and juice(TT(J))among different pomegranate *** correlation analysis showed that latitude and altitude might be the main environmental factors affecting TF and TT contents in *** this study,279 secondary metabolites were identified in the ZLP and *** addition,we report for the first time 227 secondary metabolites in *** orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis,90 differential metabolites were identified in ZLP and *** addition,we screened eight specific germplasms(high-TF(P),‘Junyong 3’;low-TF(P),‘Yanzhihong’;high-TF(J),‘Zela 4’;low-TF(J),‘Yudazi’,high-TT(P),‘Junyong 4’;low-TT(P),‘Anba 1’;high-TT(J),‘Yeba 1’;and low-TT(J),‘Baihuayushizi’).The results of our study provide a reference for the development and utilization of wild pomegranate resources and pomegranate breeding in China.

MPI-RCDD: A Framework for MPI Runtime Communication Deadlock Detection

The message passing interface (MPI) has become a de facto standard for programming models of highperformance computing, but its rich and flexible interface semantics makes the program easy to generate communication deadlock, which seriously affects the usability of the system. However, the existing detection tools for MPI communication deadlock are not scalable enough to adapt to the continuous expansion of system scale. In this context, we propose a framework for MPI runtime communication deadlock detection, namely MPI-RCDD, which contains three kinds of main mechanisms. Firstly, MPI-RCDD has a message logging protocol that is associated with deadlock detection to ensure that the communication messages required for deadlock analysis are not lost. Secondly, it uses the asynchronous processing thread provided by the MPI to implement the transfer of dependencies between processes, so that multiple processes can participate in deadlock detection simultaneously, thus alleviating the performance bottleneck problem of centralized analysis. In addition, it uses an AND⊕OR model based algorithm named AODA to perform deadlock analysis work. The AODA algorithm combines the advantages of both timeout-based and dependency-based deadlock analysis approaches, and allows the processes in the timeout state to search for a deadlock circle or knot in the process of dependency transfer. Further, the AODA algorithm cannot lead to false positives and can represent the source of the deadlock accurately. The experimental results on typical MPI communication deadlock benchmarks such as Umpire Test Suit demonstrate the capability of MPIRCDD. Additionally, the experiments on the NPB benchmarks obtain the satisfying performance cost, which show that the MPI-RCDD has strong scalability.

There are various clinical treatments for traumatic brain injury,including surgery,drug therapy,and rehabilitation therapy;howeve r,the therapeutic effects are *** combined with exosomes represent a promising but challenging method for improving the repair of traumatic brain *** this study,we determined the ability of a novel 3D-printed collagen/chitosan scaffold loaded with exosomes derived from neural stem cells pretreated with insulin-like growth factor-1(3D-CC-INEXOS) to improve traumatic brain injury repair and functional recove ry after traumatic brain injury in *** scaffolds comprising collagen,chitosan,and exosomes derived from neural stem cells pretreated with insulin-like growth fa ctor-1(INEXOS) continuously released exosomes for *** of 3D-CC-INExos scaffolds significantly improved motor and cognitive functions in a rat traumatic brain injury model,as assessed by the Morris water maze test and modified neurological seve rity *** addition,immunofluorescence staining and transmission electron microscopy showed that3D-CC-INExos implantation significantly improved the recove ry of damaged nerve tissue in the injured *** conclusion,this study suggests that transplanted3D-CC-INExos scaffolds might provide a potential strategy for the treatment of traumatic brain injury and lay a solid foundation for clinical translation.

Characteristics of combustion zone and evolution of mineral phases along bed height in ore sintering

Quantitative parameters of bed combustion, including the thickness of the combustion zone(TCZ), the maximum temperature of the combustion zone(MTCZ), and the bed shrinkage, were characterized through a series of sinter pot tests in transparent quartz pots. The results showed that TCZ first ascended and then descended as the sintering process proceeded. The sintering process was divided into four stages according to the variation rate of the TCZ. A "relative-coordinate" method was developed to obtain the actual reaction temperature of sinter along the height direction. With increasing the sintering temperature, the reactants transformed and entered into liquid phases. The mineral composition and microstructure of the sinter were characterized through X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy–energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Liquid phases with greater Fe and Al contents were more likely to form acicular-like silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum after crystallization because of the outward spread of Al, which led to a better fluidity of the liquid. An evolution mechanism of "solid-state reaction—liquid phases formation—crystallization" of the mineral phases is proposed.

Microstructure and properties of Cu-2.8Ni-0.6Si alloy

The phase transformation behavior and heat treatment response of Cu-2.8Ni-0.6Si （wt%） alloy sub- jected to different heat treatments were studied by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy observation, and measurement of hardness and electrical conductivity. The variation of hardness and electrical conductivity of the alloy was measured as a function of aging time. On aging at the temperature below TR （500-550 ℃） in Cu-2.8Ni-0.6Si alloy, the transformation undergoes spinodal decomposi- tion, DO22 ordering, and δ-NiaSi phase. On aging at the temperature above TR （500-550 ℃）, the transformation products were precipitations of 8-Ni2Si. The free energy versus composition curves were employed to explain the microstructure observations.

Basic characteristics of Australian iron ore concentrate and its effects on sinter properties during the high-limonite sintering process

The basic characteristics of Australian iron ore concentrate (Ore-A) and its effects on sinter properties during a high-limonite sintering process were studied using micro-sinter and sinter pot methods. The results show that the Ore-A exhibits good granulation properties, strong liquid flow capability, high bonding phase strength and crystal strength, but poor assimilability. With increasing Ore-A ratio, the tumbler index and the reduction index (RI) of the sinter first increase and then decrease, whereas the softening interval (Delta T) and the softening start temperature (T (10%)) of the sinter exhibit the opposite behavior; the reduction degradation index (RDI+3.15) of the sinter increases linearly, but the sinter yield exhibits no obvious effects. With increasing Ore-A ratio, the distribution and crystallization of the minerals are improved, the main bonding phase first changes from silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum (SFCA) to kirschsteinite, silicate, and SFCA and then transforms to 2CaO center dot SiO2 and SFCA. Given the utilization of Ore-A and the improvement of the sinter properties, the Ore-A ratio in the high-limonite sintering process is suggested to be controlled at approximately 6wt%.

BACKGROUND Glomus tumors(GTs)are rare mesenchymal neoplastic lesions derived from cells of the glomus *** rarely occurs in the visceral organs,where there may be few or no glomus bodies,and the majority of GTs are benign,rarely demonstrating aggressive or malignant behavior and histological *** SUMMARY We report a patient with malignant GTs of the intestinal ileum with multiorgan metastases who was admitted due to moderate *** endoscopy revealed a bleeding mass in the intestinal ileum,and the patient underwent segmental ileal resection through laparoscopic *** histopathological and immunohistochemical diagnoses were consistent with malignant *** follow-up showed that the GT had metastasized to multiple organs such as the colon,brain,and possibly the *** This case was characterized by the highest degree of malignancy and by multiorgan metastases,and it was the first case of intestinal GT uncovered by capsule endoscopy.
