Cuba has been leading marine protected area(mPA)designation in the Caribbean region to ensure conservation of its valuable marine ***,an efficient monitoring program for mPAs is still to be implemented and will benefit from pre-existing *** highly regulated mPA of Punta Francés National Park is one of the first Cuban mPAs and was established mainly to protect species and ecosystems for tourism *** of protection effects on commercial fish species was lacking in this *** study aimed at increasing local scientific knowledge by providing a baseline study about the most commercially fished families(Haemulidae,Lutjanidae and Serranidae)around Punta Francés *** collected represent only a limited period but can be used as a base point to support future *** abundance in number and biomass,and size were collected to test for differences between inside and adjacent areas outside the Punta Francés mPA,in different coral reef *** main result of this study was the significantly larger size and biomass of snappers and groupers outside the mPA where intense fisheries *** observation consistent with a large spawning aggregation was also recorded outside the *** with a limited set of data,these results suggest that,at least temporarily,the most targeted species[and sizes]are still highly vulnerable to *** habitats in the adjacent area,that are apparently missing within the mPA,may support some of the results *** the limits of the Punta Francés mPA to include those habitats outside may be critical to ensure the effectiveness of this mPA in contributing to protect the most commercial species of the *** should be done together with efficient fisheries management measures in the region,such as the significantly increase of minimum legal sizes and temporal closures during spawning migrations.

In mediterranean regions drought is the major factor limiting spring barley and durum wheat grain yields. This study aimed to compare spring barley and durum wheat root and shoot responses to drought and quantify relationships between root traits and water uptake under terminal *** spring barley（Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Rum） and two durum wheat mediterranean cultivars（Triticum turgidum L. var durum cvs Hourani and Karim） were examined in soil‐column experiments under well watered and drought conditions. Root system architecture traits, water uptake, and plant growth were measured. Barley aerial biomass and grain yields were higher than for durum wheat cultivars in well watered conditions. Drought decreased grain yield more for barley（47%） than durum wheat（30%, Hourani）. Root‐to‐shoot dry matter ratio increased for durum wheat under drought but not for barley, and root weight increased for wheat in response todrought but decreased for barley. The critical root length density（RLD） and root volume density（RVD） for 90% available water capture for wheat were similar to（cv. Hourani） or lower than（cv. Karim） for barley depending on wheat cultivar. For both species, RVD accounted for a slightly higher proportion of phenotypic variation in water uptake under drought than RLD.

The aim of this work is evaluate the intergranular corrosion on UNS S31803 steel, with heat treatments at 800 ℃, varying treatment times of 30 mins, 360 mins and 1,440 mins. The results confirm the formation of o phases and secondary austenite （γ2）. For the analysis of the influence of o and γ2 phases, metallographic analysis were conducted through optical microscopy, potentiokinetic reactivation electrochemical techniques and potentiodynamic polarization in NaCI 3.5% solution. microstructural analysis has shown a formation of γ2 and o phase in heat treatment, due to diffusion of chromium and molybdenum from δ phase to y phase, precipitating on δ/γ and δ/δ interfaces. The DL-EPR （Double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation） results have shown an increase of the DOS （degree of sensitization） for long periods of time on heat treatment. The results of potentiodynamic polarization showed a reduction of the corrosion and pitting potentials, followed by an increase of the current density when the UNS S31830 steel is heat treated during long periods of time.

Southeastern Eurasia is a global window to the Cretaceous paleoclimate and lithosphere *** contains one of the most complete and complex sedimentary records of mesozoic desert basins on planet *** this study,we perform the spatio-temporal tracking of 96 Cretaceous palaeoclimate indicators during 79 myr which reveal that the plateau paleoclimate archives from East Asia resulted from an Early to mid-Cretaceous ocean–atmosphere coupling and a shift to a preponderant role of Late Cretaceous lithosphere dynamics and tectonic forcing on high-altitude depositional systems linked to the subduction margins of the Tethys and Paleo-Pacific realms beneath the Eurasian *** crustal response to tectonic processes linked with the spatio-temporal evolution of the Tethyan and Paleo-Pacific margins defined the configuration of major sedimentary basins on this *** significant increase and decrease in the number of active sedimentary basins that occur during the Cretaceous,from 16 in the Early Cretaceous,to 28 in the mid-Cretaceous,and a decreasing to 20 sedimentary basins in the Late Cretaceous,is a direct response of lithospheric dynamics associated with the two main subduction zones(Tethys and Pacific domains).A shift in subduction style from an Early Cretaceous Paleo-Pacific Plate slab roll back to a Late Cretaceous flat-slab mode might have triggered regional plateau uplift,blocked intraplate volcanism,thus enhancing the denudation and sediment availability,and created wind corridors that led to the construction and accumulation of extensive Late Cretaceous aeolian sandy deserts(ergs)that covered mid-Cretaceous plateau *** the same time,plateau uplift associated with crustal thickening following terrane assembly in the Tethyan margin triggered altitudinal cryospheric processes in sandy desert *** of an active Cretaceous cryosphere in China include ValanginianHauterivian glacial debris flows,Early Aptian geochemical signature of melt w

Background: The use of nutritional supplements(NS) among athletes is widespread. However, little is known about the relationship between nutritional adequacy and NS usage. The aims of this study were to evaluate the NS usage and to compare the nutritional intake from food and prevalence of micronutrient inadequacy(PmI) between NS users and ***: Portuguese athletes from 13 sports completed an NS usage questionnaire and a semi-quantitative food-frequency questionnaire assessing information over the previous 12 months. The estimated average requirement cut-point method was used to calculate PmI. General linear models were used to compare nutritional intake and NS usage. Chi-squared tests and logistic regression were performed to study, respectively,relationships and associations between PmI and NS ***: From the 244 athletes(66% males, 13–37 years), 64% reported NS usage. After adjustment, NS users showed a higher intake from food(p mI were seen for vitamins D and E, calcium, folate,and magnesium. After adjustment, NS users, irrespective of gender, reported lower PmI for calcium(OR = 0.28, 95%CI: 0.12–0.65), and female users for magnesium(OR = 0.06, 95%CI: 0.00–0.98).Conclusion: Athletes using NS reported a higher nutritional intake from food, and a lower PmI for several nutrients. Perhaps, those who were taking NS were probably the ones who would least benefit from it.

The main purpose of this paper is to implement a system capable of detecting faults in railway point mechanisms. This is achieved by developing an algorithm that takes advantage of three empirical criteria simultaneously capable of detecting faults from records of measurements of force against time. The system is dynamic in several respects： the base reference data is computed using all the curves free from faults as they are encountered in the experimental data; the algorithm that uses the three criteria simultaneously may be applied in on-line situations as each new data point becomes available; and recursive algorithms are applied to filter noise from the raw data in an automatic way. Encouraging results are found in practice when the system is applied to a number of experiments carried out by an industrial sponsor.

Beacon-Less Geographic Routing in Real Wireless Sensor Networks

Geographic Routing （GR） algorithms require nodes to periodically transmit HELLO messages to allow neighbors to know their positions （beaconing mechanism）. Beacon-less routing algorithms have recently been proposed to reduce the control overheads due to these messages. However, existing beacon-less algorithms have not considered realistic physical layers. Therefore, those algorithms cannot work properly in realistic scenarios. In this paper we present a new beacon-less routing protocol called BOSS. Its design is based on the conclusions of our open-field experiments using Tmote-sky sensors. BOSS is adapted to error-prone networks and incorporates a new mechanism to reduce collisions and duplicate messages produced during the selection of the next forwarder node. We compare BOSS with Beacon-Less Routing （BLR） and Contention-Based Forwarding （CBF） algorithms through extensive simulations. The results show that our scheme is able to *** almost perfect packet delivery ratio （like BLR） while having a low bandwidth consumption （even lower than CBF）. Additionally, we carried out an empirical evaluation in a real testbed that shows the correctness of our simulation results.
