Climatic conditions become ostensible in human activities altering agricultural production, forestry and civil security, increasing vulnerability risk of socio-environmental disaster. In regions where natural resources proliferate in good condition and therefore are declared protected areas, it is essential to determine whether there is indeed climate changes or, if there are just climate variations because ethnic and peasant communities depend entirely of their natural resources to survival. The aim of this study was to compare local people perception of weather variations respect what was found by scientists to analyze long series of traditional climatic data. To understand social vs. scientific perception of the same phenomenon we rely on a case study in the Sierra Otomí. Examination of both temperature and precipitation showed no significant differences between 1944 and 2010. However, the overall trend in temperature was to decline 0.5℃. When crossing statistical information regarding natural and anthropogenic historical phenomena, there seems no climate change in the region. On the other hand, social perception is that there is a major climate change in the region, increasing trouble scheduling crops because the rain is delayed or comes suddenly and everything floods. It also tells people that the temperature is getting warmer than ever, because the nights are cooler and the days are hotter than some years ago. Although the perception of the population is not supported by scientific data, the feeling is strong, but is due to cultural, economic criteria, and traditional beliefs. This information is important to develop specific programs for management of natural resources in rural places with adjoining protected natural areas.

The basin of the former Lake Texcoco is located in the heart of one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world:Mexico City （MAMC）.However,although the lake is a drying vessel of more than 90%,of their geophysical characteristics has not been completely urbanized,making it the ultimate outdoor space for the overcrowded population of the north-east;but at the same time,it is a considerable source of contamination for periphery-urban area by the large dust storms that are *** the amount of toxic substances that flow through their channels of *** reverse the harmful effects on human health and prevent pollution reaching the aquifer,the national Water Commission （nWC） has established the Lake Texcoco Ecological Park （LTEP）.The purpose of this study was to have a bio-geochemical diagnosis of the LTEP like background information to develop its comprehensive management ***,to know the sources of contamination,identify and quantify contaminants in rivers,sediment and soil were analyzed 27 factors LTEP physicochemical under nOM-001-SEMARnAT-1996,there were 11 vertical electrical soundings,33 CT Electrical *** sources of pollution produced by human activities （industrial,urban and agricultural） and two sources of mixed origin （natural-anthropogenic） hypersaline water,salinization of soils and sediment were *** parameters measured far exceed the maximum permissible limits established in *** found an effect of soil washing in the crevices of saline soils,being more pronounced at south of the polygon PELT.

This work reports the growth and characterization of p-AlInn layers doped with Mg by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy(PAMBE).AlInn was grown with an Al molar fraction of 0.80 by metal-modulated epitaxy(MME)with a thickness of 180 nm on Si(111)substrates using Aln as buffer *** substrate temperatures were used to enhance the incorporation of indium atoms into the alloy without clustering,as confirmed by X-ray diffraction(XRD).Cathodoluminescence measurements revealed ultraviolet(UV)range ***,Hall effect measurements indicated a maximum hole mobility of 146 cm^(2)/(V∙s),corresponding to a free hole concentration of 1.23×10^(19)cm^(−3).The samples were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)estimating the alloy composition and extracting the Fermi level by valence band ***-doped AlInn layers were studied for use as the electron-blocking layer(EBL)in LED *** varied the Al composition in the EBL from 0.84 to 0.96 molar fraction to assess its theoretical effects on electroluminescence,carrier concentration,and electric field,using SILVACO *** results from this study highlight the importance and capability of producing high-quality Mg-doped p-AlInn layers through *** simulations suggest that an Al content of 0.86 is optimal for achieving desired outcomes in electroluminescence,carrier concentration,and electric field.

Technical efficiency of cocoa farms at varying elevation levels in Davao City, Philippines: implications to sustainable upland farming systems

Elevation is one of many components that influence agriculture, and this in turn affects the level of both inputs and outputs of farmers. This article focuses on the productivity and technical efficiency of 100 cocoa farms using cross-sectional data from areas ranging from 190 to 1021 m above sea level which were classified as low, medium, and high elevation in Davao City, considered as the chocolate capital of the Philippines. Using stochastic frontier analysis, the results showed that the cost of inputs per ha and the number of cocoa trees per ha significantly increase yield. Farms at high elevations were less technically efficient, as this entails lower temperatures and increased rainfall, and cocoa farming in those areas and conditions can be more challenging, especially with changes in farming practices, terrain, and distance to markets. Other significant variables were age of cocoa farms, married farmers, and age of the farmers. Older farms may be more developed, farmers who are married benefit from their spouses being able to readily contribute as farm labor, and lastly, older farmers' inefficiency may likely stem from nonadaptation of newer farming practices. With an average technical efficiency of 0.61, 0.63, and 0.26 in low, medium, and high elevation areas, respectively, farmers therefore have an incentive to improve farm practices and consider topographical variations found in high elevation areas. Recommendations for the improvement of technical efficiency of cocoa farms are better connectivity to markets, enhancing farm practices, and continuation and improvement of government programs on cocoa with an added emphasis on research. For farmers in high elevation areas, mitigating solutions such as sustainable agriculture practices and ecolabelling are key to improving efficiency and minimizing the potential negative impact on upland farming systems. Employing electrochemically derived pH gradients for Lab-on-PCB protein preconcentration devices

Solar-assisted photocatalytic water splitting using defective UiO-66 solids from modulated synthesis

Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)are attracting increasing interests as photocatalysts for solar-driven hydrogen production from *** paper reports on a comparative study of using either acetic acid(AA)or trifluoroacetic acid(TFA)as the representative UiO-66 organic modulators for synthesizing visible light responsive UiO-66(Zr)-X(X:nH_(2) or nO_(2))photocatalysts for water *** results show that photocatalytic hydrogen generation from a water/methanol mixture can be improved by varying the nature and amount of the modulator employed to prepare the different UiO-66(Zr)-X(X:nH_(2) or nO_(2))solid ***-66(Zr)-nH_(2) was the most active photocatalyst,followed by UiO-66(Zr)-nO_(2),both prepared with 12 equivalents of AA with respect to the organic *** UiO-66(Zr)-nH_(2) solid was more active than the parent MOF in photocatalytic overall water splitting(OWS)(H_(2) and O_(2) production of 450 and 160μmol·g^(-1),respectively,in 5 h;apparent quantum yield(AQY)at 400 nm of 0.06%)in the absence of methanol and compares favourably with analogous *** on the photocatalytic activity of the most active solids of both series was obtained by means of a series of techniques,including ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)diffuse reflectance,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),laser flash photolysis(LFP),electron spin resonance(ESR),photoluminescence and photoelectrochemical measurements together with density functional theory(DFT)*** results showed that organic acid modulators can be used to enhance the photocatalytic activity of missing linker UiO-66 defective materials in solar-powered water splitting.

The effectiveness of different wear indicators in quantifying wear on railway wheels of freight wagons

Railway infrastructure relies on the dynamic interaction between wheels and rails;thus,assessing wheel wear is a critical aspect of maintenance and *** paper focuses on the wheel-rail wear indicator T-gamma(Tγ).Amidst its use,it becomes apparent that Tγ,while valuable,fails to provide a comprehensive reflection of the actual material removal and actual contact format,which means that using only Tγas a target for optimization of profiles is not *** this work,three different freight wagons are evaluated:a meter-gauge and a broad-gauge heavy haul vehicles from South American railways,and a standard-gauge freight vehicle operated in Europe,with different axle loads and dissimilar new wheel/rail *** vehicles are subjected to comprehensive multibody simulations on various *** simulations aimed to elucidate the intricate relationship between different wear indicators:Tγ,wear index,material removal,and maximum wear depth,under diverse curves,non-compensated lateral accelerations(A_(nc)),and *** findings showed a correlation of 0.96 between Tγand wear depth and 0.82 between wear index and material removed for the outer *** the results,the Tγis better than the wear index to be used when analyzing wear depth while the wear index is more suited to foresee the material *** results also show the low influence of A_(nc)on wear index and Tγ.By considering these factors together,the study aims to improve the understanding of wheel-rail wear by selecting the best wear analysis approaches based on the effectiveness of each parameter.
