Ozone and Aerosol Influence on Ultraviolet Radiation on the East Coast of the Brazilian Northeast

The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of Total Ozone and Aerosols about variability of Ultraviolet Radiation (UV) in the east coast of the Northeastern region of Brazil through measures from multispectral sensor GUV (Ground-based Ultraviolet Radiometer). The methodology consisted of descriptive study and cluster analyses using data of UV in channels UVB (305 nm) and UVA (320 nm, 340 nm and 380 nm) and data of UV index, Total Ozone, Aerosol, Global solar Radiation, Cloudiness and Wind. The results for city of Natal indicated that an annual event occurs in september/October which stabilizes the UV or UV Index when Total Ozone levels reach their annual maximum. This event is influenced by marine Aerosol that is found on mainland at a higher concentration in september due to greater Wind intensity and their southeasterly direction (sea for land). The cluster analysis using the variables above allowed us to detect three different groups: the first group is formed by Natal, Recife and Jo?o Pessoa and so determined that this event occurs in these three cities;the second group is formed by Maceió, Aracaju and salvador and the third group includes only Fortaleza and had different results.

This work diagnosed the precipitation extremes over the Brazilian Northeast (NEB) based on logistic regression for obtaining associations between precipitation extremes and the meteorological variables by Odd Ratio (OR). Data of ten meteorological variables to the NEB (North (NNEB), East (ENEB), south (sNEB) and semiarid (sANEB)) were used daily. The OR results evidenced that the outgoing longwave radiation was the key variable on the precipitation extremes detection in three sub-regions: ENEB with 2.91 times (95% confidence interval (CI): 2.11, 4.02), NNEB with 3.63 times (95% CI: 1.93, 6.83), and sANEB with 5.40 times (95% CI: 3.04, 9.61);while on sNEB, it was relative humidity with 3.88 times (95% CI: 2.89, 5.20) more chance to favor the precipitation extremes. The maximum temperature, zonal wind component, evaporation, specific humidity and RH also had influence on these extremes. Goodness-of-fit and ROC analysis demonstrated that all models had a good fit and good predictive capability.

Bats are the second-most diverse group of mammals in the world,and bat flies are their main ***,significant knowledge gaps remain regarding these antagonistic interactions,especially since diverse factors such as seasonality and host sex can affect their network ***,we explore the influence of such factors by comparing species richness and composition of bat flies on host bats,as well as specialization and modularity of bat–bat fly interaction networks between seasons and adult host *** captured bats and collected their ectoparasitic flies at 10 sampling sites in the savannahs of Amapástate,northeastern region of the Brazilian *** female bats being more parasitized and recording greater bat fly species richness in the wet season,neither relationship was statistically *** pooled network could be divided into 15 compartments with 54 links,and all subnetworks comprised>12 *** total number of links ranged from 27 to 48(for the dry and wet seasons,respectively),and female and male subnetworks had 44 and 41 links,*** values were very low for the pooled network and for all *** results revealed higher bat fly species richness and abundance in the wet season,whereas specialization and modularity were higher in the dry ***,the subnetwork for female bats displayed higher specialization and modularity than the male ***,both seasonality and host sex contribute in different ways to bat–bat fly network *** studies should consider these factors when evaluating bat–bat fly interaction networks.

Purpose:This meta-analytical study aimed to explore the effects of resistance training(RT) volume on body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation in postmenopausal and older ***:A systematic search was performed for randomized controlled trials in PubMed,scopus,Web of science,and *** controlled trials with postmenopausal and older females that compared RT effects on body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation with a control group(CG) were *** reviewers selected the studies,extracted the data,and performed the risk of bias and certainty of the evidence(Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development,and Evaluation(GRADE)) *** body and abdominal adiposity,blood lipids,glucose,and C-reactive protein were included for meta-analysis.A random-effects model,standardized mean difference(Hedges’ g),and 95% confidence interval(95%CI) were used for ***:Twenty randomized controlled trials(overall risk of bias:some concerns;GRADE:low to very low) with overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females were *** groups were divided into low-volume RT(LVRT,~44 sets/week) and high-volume RT(HVRT,~77 sets/week).Both RT groups presented improved body adiposity,metabolic risk,and inflammation when compared to ***,HVRT demonstrated higher effect sizes than LVRT for glucose(HVRT=-1.19;95%CI:-1.63 to-0.74;LVRT=-0.78;95%CI:-1.15 to-0.41) and C-reactive protein(HVRT=-1.00;95%CI:-1.32 to-0.67;LVRT=-0.34;95%CI,-0.63 to-0.04)) when compared to ***:Compared to CG,HVRT protocols elicit greater improvements in metabolic risk and inflammation outcomes than LVRT in overweight/obese postmenopausal and older females.

We present a new approach for calculating the C-factor of RUsLE considering the effect of low-reflectance vegetation cover areas on the reduction of the effects on erosion caused by rainfall *** this,we propose the coefficients Cr2(rescaled 2)and C-PC(Precipitation Correction),which represent the Cfactor,and an adaptation in NDVI calculation,according to the seasonality of precipitation(NDVI-PC).The Cr2 factor is used when there is no seasonal effect of rainfall on vegetation,while the C-PC factor is calculated for localities under the influence of seasonality,from *** proposed approaches were tested using different satellites images in the Palmares-Ribeir~ao do saco watershed,Rio de Janeiro,*** values of Cr2 and C-PC factors were compared to the Cr factor(rescaled)and to mean values from the literature for different land *** results indicated that the Cr2 factor represents an improvement in accuracy in relation to Cr by considering specific values of the studied area to normalize the data without ***,the C-PC factor is able to simulate the effect of seasonality,providing more realistics values of soil loss by the RUsLE as a function of the proportion of area affected by the rainfall seasonality obtained from *** conclude that both Cr2 and C-PC factors generate values similar of the C-factor observed in the literature,and therefore are able to provide better soil loss estimation than that using the Cr factor.

The Northeast Brazil (NEB) is known for its temporal and spatial variability of precipitation. several studies have investigated this variability in order to understand the damaging episodes such as droughts and floods. The phenomenon of drought in the NEB is a complex topic due to affecting?millions of people and being?the object of study in several fields of knowledge. One way to try to argue about this phenomenon is through the concept of vulnerability. The “operability” of this broad concept in natural disasters is a complex task. In order to measure an indicator of vulnerability it is necessary large amount of data from different areas of knowledge, among which?include: meteorology, socio-environmental, economic, public health, among other areas. The main objective of this study is to create an index of vulnerability to climate extremes (drought and flood) for the NEB and to compare this rate with those found in the scientific literature. The data that will be used in this study are from ANA (Agência Nacional das águas), IBGE (Instituto Brasileiro de Georgrafia e Estatística), and Ministry of National integration.

The advance and retreat of the sahara Desert are repetitive in decadal time scale. This climate variability, unique in the world, results from the irregular motion of the Intertropical Front (ITF), a discontinuity originated from the convergence of two air masses over the African continent. It results from the convergence of a dry air mass flowing off the North African anticyclone and a southwestern warm and humid air mass that originates off the south Atlantic anticyclone. As it crosses the equator, this air stream is shifted rightwards, becoming southwesterly winds and transporting moisture into the continent. The equatorial thermal low associated with ITF over the continent is deeper and more intense than the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) one and its thermodynamic properties differ remarkably, moisture concentration in particular. The ITF annual latitudinal displacement is larger than that of the Atlantic ITCZ, reaching 20?N commonly during the North Hemisphere summer. In this manuscript one discuss about the possibility that Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) is not a regular physical oscillation and its phases duration may not be predictable and be dependent of large magnitude seismic events, which are rare and random. An important point, however, is that the Pacific sea surface temperature (ssT) pattern, once established and recognized, may remain for a relative long (decades) period. Its ssT pattern, due to its large area extension, modulates the global climate forcing the large scale general circulation features, ENsO in particular, to produce distinct regional impacts, depending on the signal and strength of the ssT anomalies. This happened with the ITF in the sahel and may possibly have occurred with other large scale atmospheric structures, such as the Asian Monsoon, convergence zones and subtropical anticyclones centers positioning.
