Improving sexual and reproductive health knowledge and practice in Mozambican families with media campaign and volunteer family health champions

Objective To increase knowledge,attitudes and practice of sexual and reproductive health and family planning and to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates in *** An implementation research project’s intermediate evaluation,applying two cross-sectional *** surveys were planned for 316 subjects before and after *** Research performed in natikiri district of nampula province in northern Mozambique,targeting a suburban and rural populations in their *** 452 people were surveyed(91 before,361 after),all belonging to the Macua ethnic *** A media campaign(2 weekly radio spots,bimonthly theatre performances)was performed for 8 months(2017 to 2018)and family health champions’teachings(monthly home visits)performed for 3 months,on sexual and reproductive health and family *** measures planned and measured were adolescent’s and adult’s knowledge,attitudes and practice about *** were analysed by gender,age group and frequencies,using a CI of 95%(pnificant).results Radio spots,community theatre and volunteer champions increased population’s knowledge about sexual and reproductive health and led to a more positive attitude toward family *** attitude,results show differences between adults’proportions before and after:(1)did you hear about sexual and reproductive health(p=0.0425);(2)knows project key messages(pnows prenatal visits importance(p=0.0301);(4)access to contraceptives was easy(pnts showed statistically significant differences before and after:(1)knows project key messages(pntraceptives was easy(p=0.0361).Family planning practice did not increase in both *** A health education intervention,using a media campaign and local volunteers,is useful to promote mother and child *** is an unmet need for family planning and the use of modern contraception is below desired pra

Axillary recurrence after intramammary sentinel lymph nodes metastases with capsular extravasation

Axillary recurrence is a rare event in patients treated with sentinel lymph node biopsy alone with the majority occurring in the first 5 years after surgery. Intramammary lymph node (IMLn) can be the primary sites of metastasis and sentinel lymph nodes, but the clinical significance, including prognosis and therapeutic approach is yet unclear, even more with capsular extravasation. IMLn metastases are strongly correlated with axillary lymph nodes involvement and therefore a guide for further surgical management of the axillary nodes.

Potential approaches to improve the outcomes of donation after cardiac death liver grafts

There is a growing discrepancy between the supply and demand of livers for transplantation resulting in high mortality rates on the waiting list. One of the options to decrease the mortality on the waiting list is to optimize organs with inferior quality that otherwise would be discarded. Livers from donation after cardiac death(DCD) donors are frequently discarded because they are exposed to additional warm ischemia time, and this might lead to primary-non-function, delayed graft function, or severe biliary complications. In order to maximize the usage of DCD livers several new preservation approaches have been proposed. Here, we will review 3 innovative organ preservation methods:(1) different ex vivo perfusion techniques;(2) persufflation with oxygen; and(3) addition of thrombolytic therapy. Improvement of the quality of DCD liver grafts could increase the pool of liver graft's for transplantation, improve the outcomes, and decrease the mortality on the waiting list.

Temporal decay of the catalytic oxidation of methane over palladium supported on silica

The temporal decay of the oxidation of methane(CH4-O2reaction)over palladium supported on silica is determined experimentally at different temperatures,comparing the results with those of various classical models which show the behavior of the adsorbed phase as the cause of the *** effect is visualized through Monte Carlo simulations of the CH4-O2reaction on a mixed lattice whose partial poisoning,due to the configuration of the OH groups on the surface of the adsorbate,is translated into a gradual decay of the reaction’s activity.

Radiofrequency ablation for treatment of hypersplenism: A feasible therapeutic option

We present a case of a patient with hypersplenism secondary to portal hypertension due to hepato-splenic schistosomiasis, which was accompanied by severe and refractory thrombocytopenia. We performed spleen ablation and measured the total spleen and ablated volumes with contrast-enhanced computed tomography and volumetry. no major complications occurred, thrombocytopenia was resolved, and platelet levels remained stable, which allowed for early treatment of the patient's underlying disease. Previous work has shown that splenic radiofrequency ablation is an attractive alternative treatment for hypersplenism induced by liver cirrhosis. We aimed to contribute to the currently sparse literature evaluating the role of radiofrequency ablation(RFA) in the management of hypersplenism. We conclude that splenic RFA appears to be a viable and promising option for the treatment of hypersplenism.

Columnar joints in the Patino Formation sandstones, Eastern Paraguay： a dynamic interaction between dyke intrusion, quartz dissolution and cooling-induced fractures

The Patiho Formation sandstones, which crop out in Aregud neighborhood in Eastern Paraguay and show columnar joints near the contact zone with a nephelinite dyke, have as their main characteristics the high pro- portion of syntaxial quartz overgrowth and a porosity originated from different processes, initially by dissolu- tion and later by partial filling and fracturing. Features like the presence of floating grains in the syntaxial cement, the transitional interpenetrative contact between the silica-rich cement and grains as well as the intense fracture porosity are strong indications that the cement has been formed by dissolution and reprecipita- tion of quartz from the framework under the effect of thermal expansion followed by rapid contraction. The increase of the silica-rich cement towards the dyke in association with the orthogonal disposition of the columns relative to dyke walls are indicative that the igneous body may represent the main heat source for the interstitial aqueous solutions previously existing in the sediments. At macroscopic scale, the increasing of inter- nal tensions in the sandstones is responsible for the nucleation of polygons, leading to the individualization of prisms, which are interconnected by a system of joints, formed firstly on isotherm surfaces of low tem- perature and later on successive adjacent planes towards the dyke heat source.
