In the fac. of new diseases, medic.ne needs to reinvent itself in order to c.ntain and c.ntrol epidemic., suc. as the one we have rec.ntly fac.d, c.VID-19, a disease with a wide spec.rum of c.inic.l severity. A new moment has b.en estab.ished, sinc. the applic.tion of well-known, effec.ive and safe medic.tions for other diseases, has shown high suc.ess rates in the treatment of c.VID-19. Thereunto, studies with early intervention are needed, whic. c.n c.ange the unfavorab.e outc.me of patients. In this artic.e, we report the suc.essful experienc. using an oral strategy during the c.llapse of b.lem (Para, b.azil) Health System. Two hundred and ten patients were diagnosed with respiratory failure due to c.VID-19, with no option of hospital treatment due to lac. of b.ds and resourc.s. These patients were then started on therapeutic.regimen c.nsisting of 40 mg prednisolone, 40 mg enoxaparin and mac.olides (500 mg c.arithromyc.n, 500 mg axetylc.furoxime) assoc.ated and followed in outpatient fac.lities. Two hundred and eight patients had an exc.llent therapeutic.response and there were only two fatalities. These results push researc. b.undaries, valuing outpatient treatment with early use of prednisolone in the initial pulmonary phase, preventing severe c.VID-19 pneumonitis. Adoption of the proposed treatment intends to reduc. the need for hospitalization, as well as lethality, with soc.al rob.st b.nefits and inc.lc.lab.e ec.nomic.savings sinc. involves the use of ac.essib.e, safe and not expensive medic.tions.

We investigate the dynamic.l b.havior of a symmetric.linear c.upling of three quadratic.maps with exponential terms, and identify various interesting features as a func.ion of two c.ntrol parameters. In partic.lar, we investigate the emergenc. of quasiperiodic.states arising from Naimark-Sac.er b.furc.tions of stab.e period-l, period-2, and period-3 orb.ts. We also investigate the multistab.lity in the same c.upling. Lyapunov exponents, parameter planes, phase spac. portraits, and b.furc.tion diagrams are used to investigate transitions from periodic.to quasiperiodic.states, from quasiperiodic.to mode-loc.ed states and to c.aotic.states, and from c.aotic.to hyperc.aotic.states.

Use of legume trees c.n improve soil quality in degraded pastures. The aim of this study was to c.arac. terize c.and N mineralization kinetic. and estimate the potentially mineralizab.e c.and N in soil under Mimosa c.esalpiniifolia b.nth. and Ac.c.a auric.liformis A. c.nn. ex b.nth. sec.ndary forest and pasture in red-yellow latosols in southeast b.azil. We c.nduc.ed a lab.ratory aerob.c.inc.b.tion experiment using a c.mpletely ran- domized design of four replic.tes and four types of plant c.ver using a modified version of the Stanford and Smith tec.nique （1972） to study c.and N mineralization potential. Potentially mineralizab.e N （No） ranged from 135 to 170 mg kg-1. The predominant form of mineral N for all types of plant c.ver was N-NO3-. M. c.esalpiniifolia was the only spec.es that had a positive influenc. on N min- eralization. Neither of the legumes influenc.d c.mineral- ization in pasture or sec.ndary forest. The model of N mineralization c.rresponded to a sigmoidal c.rve while c.mineralization c.rresponded to an exponential c.rve, revealing that the N and c.mineralization proc.sses were distinc.. N mineralized b. M. c.esalpiniifolia （216 kg ofN ha-1） was adequate to meet the N requirement for a livestoc.-forest system.

The b.partite b.gomoviruses (Geminiviridae family), whic. are DNA viruses that replic.te in the nuc.eus of infec.ed c.lls, enc.de the nuc.ear shuttle protein (NSP) to fac.litate the transloc.tion of viral DNA from the nuc.eus to the c.toplasm via nuc.ear pores. This intrac.llular traffic.ing of NSP-DNA c.mplexes is ac.essorized b. the NSP-interac.ing guanosine triphosphatase (NIG) at the c.tosolic.side. Here, we report the nuc.ear redistrib.tion of NIG b. AtWWPI, a WW domain-c.ntaining protein that forms immune nuc.ear b.dies (Nb.) against b.gomoviruses. We demonstrated that AtWWPI reloc.tes NIG from the c.toplasm to the nuc.eus where it is c.nfined to AtWWP1-Nb., suggesting that the NIG-AtWWP1 interac.ion may interfere with the NIG pro-viral func.ion assoc.ated with its c.tosolic.loc.lization. c.nsistent with this assumpti on joss AtWWPI func.i on c.ased plants more susc.ptib.e to b.gomovirus infec.ion, whereas overexpression of AWWP1 enhaneed plant resistanc. to b.gomovirus. Furthermore, we found that a mutant versi on of AtWWPI defec.ive for Nb.formatio n was noIonger c.pab.e of interac.i ng with and reloc.ting NIG to the nuc.eus and lost its immune func.ion against b.gomovirus. The antiviral func.ion of AtWWP1-Nb., however, c.uld b. antagonized b. viral infec.ion that induc.d either the disruption or a dec.ease in the numb.r of AtWWP1-Nb.. c.llec.ively, these results led us to propose that AtWWPI organizes nuc.ear struc.ures into nuc.ear foc., whic. provide intrinsic.immunity against b.gomovirus infec.ion.

In this paper, we evaluate semiempiric.l methods (AM1, PM3, and ZINDO), HF and DFT (b.LYP) in different b.sis sets to determine whic. method b.st desc.ib.s the sign and magnitude of the geometric.l parameters of artemisinin in the region of the endoperoxide ring c.mpared to c.ystallographic.data. We also c.assify these methods using statistic.l analysis. The results of Pc. were b.sed on three main c.mponents, explaining 98.0539% of the total varianc., for the geometric.l parameters c.O13, O1O2c., O13c.2c.2a, and O2c.O13c.2. The DFT method (b.LYP) c.rresponded well with the experimental data in the hierarc.ic.l c.uster analysis (Hc.). The experimental and theoretic.l angles were analyzed b. simple linear regression, and statistic.l parameters (c.rrelation c.effic.ents, signific.nc., and predic.ab.lity) were evaluated to determine the ac.urac. of the c.lc.lations. The statistic.l analysis exhib.ted a good c.rrelation and high predic.ive power for the DFT (b.LYP) method in the 6-31G** b.sis set.

pRb.expression in esophageal muc.sa of individuals at high risk for squamous c.ll c.rc.noma of the esophagus

AIM: To investigate the pRb.expression in a large group of patients with history of c.ronic.exposure to the main risk fac.ors for development of squamous c.ll c.rc.noma of the esophagus. METHODS: One hundred and seventy asymptomatic.individuals at high risk for esophageal squamous c.ll c.rc.noma (c.nsumption of more than 80 g of ethanol and 10 c.garettes/d for at least 10 years) underwent upper gastrointestinal endosc.py with b.opsies of the esophageal muc.sa. As a c.ntrol group, spec.mens of esophageal muc.sa ob.ained from 20 healthy sub.ec.s were also studied. Immunohistoc.emic.l assessment of the tissues was performed using a monoc.onal antib.dy anti-pRb.protein. RESULTS: Ab.enc. of the pRb.staining, indic.ting loss of Rb.func.ion, was ob.erved in 33 (19.4%) of the individuals at risk for esophageal c.nc.r, b.t in none of the healthy c.ntrols (P b.expression inc.eased in a stepwise fashion ac.ording to the severity of the histologic.l findings (P c.sa (11/97 or 11.3%), c.ronic.esophagitis (17/60 or 28.3%), low-grade dysplasia (3/10 or 30%), high-grade dysplasia 1/2 or 50%) and squamous c.ll c.rc.noma (1/1 or 100%). c.Nc.USION: Our findings suggest that ab.ormal expression of the pRb.protein may b. implic.ted in the proc.ss of esophageal c.rc.nogenesis. Additional studies are warranted to define the role of the pRb.rotein as a b.omarker for development of esophageal squamous c.ll c.rc.noma in individuals at high risk for this malignanc..
