Most of Brazilian railways were built more than 100 years ago. Some of them were submitted to rebuilding processes while others were just overloaded by additional layers of ballast. Nowadays, Brazil is going through a new railway transport impulse in relation to the increase of load, despite of the necessary supply capacity. For this reason, there were developed evaluations from some Brazilian railways in order to determine their operational conditions. This work shows a comparative analysis of results from two parts of studied old railway, aiming to determine minimum features to enable them to accept higher load axis. One of these studied old railway parts did not have a sub-ballast layer in contrast to the other one. The strains and stresses of these old railway track parts were generated by the same locomotive.

The Education for Health at PET Work Program (PET-Health) is focused on education as a pre-supposition. Actions are directed towards to the integration of service-learning and community. Interdisciplinary principle is directed from fusion of work of graduate students, academics and professionals of health services for the benefit of strengthening primary care and health surveillance. This work aimed to carry out educational activities with community Health Agents (AcS) of the health facilities of PET-health, with the theme of chagas disease. This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out from January to May 2013, and the sample consisted of 25 active AcS in six Basic Health Units in the city of Petrolina, Brazil. In spite of actuation of AcS in primary care for over 10 years, a limited knowledge has been developed about this pathology. The health education workshops developed by the PET group clarified the AcS on chagas disease allowing them to have an expansion of knowledge about the vector, habitat Barber, transmission, clinical manifestations… After the workshop, it was found that the AcS expanded their knowledge about the disease cycle, expanding the possibilities for action in the prevention of this pathology in their respective coverage areas. This work shows an important form of integration between education, service and community that can govern the new direction of health education.

In this article,we provide an impact evaluation of an intervention in Peru regarding preparedness for El Nino impacts in Picsi District of chiclayo Province in Peru’s northwestern coastal Lambayeque *** effort involved the provision of special kits that reduce the potential damage to homes as a consequence of rainfall and floods associated with an El Nino-Southern Oscillation *** was collected in 2016 when this Forecast-based Financing early action was activated by an El Nino forecast,and after a coastal El Nino actually struck in *** dual database permits us to estimate the impact of the intervention on the damage level of homes by comparing those homes supported by the program with those homes not receiving pilot-program *** comparison is achieved by using propensity score matching techniques,which identify the most comparable homes to the ones that were supported by the *** main findings of the study suggest a positive impact of the program in terms of its effectiveness in mitigating the damage caused by the 2017 El Ni?*** results suggest a drop in the scale of house damage(less damage)by around 63%for a home that received the modular kit *** considering other specifications of the model,the decrease in the scale of house damage improves up to approximately 66%.

Ants show collective and individual behavioral flexibility in their response to immediate context,choosing for example between different foraging *** Pachycondyla striata,workers can forage solitarily or recruit and guide nestmates to larger food sources through tandem *** considered more ancestral and less efficient than pheromone trail-laying,this strategy is common especially in species with small colony *** is not known is how the decision to recruit or follow varies according to the immediate *** is,how fine adjustments in information transfer affect immediate foraging decisions at the colony ***,we studied individually marked workers and evaluated their foraging decisions when food items varied in nature(protein versus carbohydrate),size,and distance from the nest at different temperatures and humidity *** results show that tandem run leaders and potential followers adjust their behavior according to a combination of external *** 84.2%of trips were solitary,most ants(81%)performed at least 1 tandem ***,tandem runs were more frequent for nearby resources and at higher relative ***,when food items were located far away,tandem runs were more successful when heading to protein sources(75%)compared with carbohydrate sources(42%).Our results suggest that the social information transfer between leaders and followers conveys more information than previously thought,and also relies on their experience and motivation.

H. suaveolens （L.） Poit has been used in folk medicine revealing a wide pharmacological potential. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the essential oil from 11. suaveolens leaves in inhibiting the growth of A. flavus LM257 and synthesis of aflatoxins Bl and B2. The essential oil at 20, 40 and 80 laL/mL strongly reduced the biomass and spore germination ofA. flavus. A 100% inhibition was found at 40 μL/mL and 80μL/mL, while at 20 μL/mL the growth depressed over 50% for both tested parameters. The essential oil at all assayed concentrations totally inhibited the production of aflatoxin B1 and B2. From these results, the essential oil from 11. suaveolens leaves may be considered as an alternative and effective inhibitor ofA. flavus, in addition to offer some protective effect to the production of aflatoxins.

Air pollution has become a critical issue in urban areas,so a broad understanding of its spatiotemporal characteristics is important to develop public *** study analyzes the spatiotemporal variation of atmospheric particulate matter(PM_(10) and PM_(2.5))and ozone(O_(3))in Barranquilla,colombia from March 2018 to June 2019 in three monitoring *** average concentrations observed for the Móvil,Policía,and Tres Avemarías stations,respectively,for PM_(10):46.4,51.4,and 39.7μg/m^(3);for PM_(2.5):16.1,18.1,and 15.1μg/m^(3) and for O_(3):35.0,26.6,and 33.6μg/m^(3).The results indicated spatial and temporal variations between the stations and the pollutants *** highest PM concentrations were observed in the southern part of the city,while for ozone,higher concentrations were observed in the *** variations are mainly associated with the influence of local sources in the environment of each site evaluated as well as the meteorological conditions and transport patterns of the study *** study also verified the existence of differences in the concentrations of the studied pollutants between the dry and rainy seasons and the contribution of local sources as biomass burnings from the Isla Salamanca Natural Park and long-range transport of dust particles from the Sahara *** study provides a scientific baseline for understanding air quality in the city,which enables policy makers to adopt efficient measures that jointly prevent and control pollution.

Identification of IL11RA and MELK amplification in gastric cancer by comprehensive genomic profiling of gastric cancer cell lines

AIM To identify common copy number alterations on gastric cancer cell *** Four gastric cancer cell lines(AcP02, AcP03, AGP01 and PG100) underwent chromosomal comparative genome hybridization and array comparative genome hybridization. We also confirmed the results by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis using the bacterial artificial chromosome clone and quantitative real time PcR *** The amplification of 9p13.3 was detected in all cell lines by both methodologies. An increase in the copy number of 9p13.3 was also confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis. Moreover, the interleukin 11 receptor alpha(IL11RA) and maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase(MELK) genes, which are present in the 9p13.3 amplicon, revealed gains of the MELK gene in all the cell lines studied. Additionally, a gain in the copy number of IL11 RA and MELK was observed in 19.1%(13/68) and 55.9%(38/68) of primary gastric adenocarcinoma samples, respectively. cONcLUSION The characterization of a small gain region at 9p13.3 in gastric cancer cell lines and primary gastric adenocarcinoma samples has revealed MELK as a candidate target gene that is possibly related to the development of gastric cancer.

Impacts of land use and land cover changes on hydrological processes and sediment yield determined using the SWAT model

Land use and land cover (LULc) changes strongly affect local hydrology and sediment *** current study focused on a basin in the Brazilian Amazon and had the following three objectives:(1) to perform an effective diagnosis of flow and sediment yield,(2) to evaluate the impacts of LULc changes over the last 40 years on the hydro-sedimentological variables,and (3) to investigate the impacts of the possible trends or breaking points in the flow,surface runoff,and sediment yield *** Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model validation showed that the simulated results were consistent with the data measured in the dynamic reproduction of flow ***,changes in LULc altered surface runoff,sediment yield,and flow according to the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt non-parametric *** was also observed that the sub-basins in which pastureland is predominant are more susceptible to increased surface runoff and sediment *** to trend and homogeneity tests,these sub-basins had break points in the time series of these *** the other hand,in the sub-basins whose land cover is predominantly forest,the time series is homogeneous and *** current study highlighted the impacts that 40 years of LULc changes in an Amazonian basin had on hydro-sedimentological variables,which,in turn,can play an important role in changing the hydrological cycle,consequently these changes can also impact diverse human activities in the region,such as agribusiness,livestock,energy production,food security,and public water ***,it is concluded that the SWAT model is a good estimator of hydro-sedimentological processes in Amazonian basins and can be used by decision makers in the management of water and environmental resources.
