Surgical treatment of Peyronie＇s disease： ch.osing th. best approach.to improve patient satisfaction

Aim： To discuss important points on medical h.story, preoperative evaluation, real expectations, and selection of th. appropriate surgical procedure to improve patient satisfaction after surgical procedures for Peyronie＇s disease. Meth.ds： Recent advances in approach.s to Peyronie＇s disease are discussed based on th. literature and personal experiences. Issues concerning surgical indication, patient selection, surgical tech.iques, and grafting are discussed. Length.ning procedures on th. convex side of th. penile curvature by means of grafting offer th. best possible gain from a reconstruction standpoint. Penile rectification and rigidity are required to ach.eve a completely functional penis. Most patients experience associated erectile dysfunction （ED）, and penile straigh.ening alone may not be enough.to restore complete function. Twenty-five patients were submitted to total penile reconstruction on length.and girth.with.concomitant penile prosth.sis implant. Th. maximum length.restoration was possible and limited by th. length.of th. dissected neurovascular bundle. Th. mean age was 55.4 years （32-69 years） and th. mean angle of curvature 74.2± 22.4° （0-100°）. Pericardial grafting was used to cover th. defect. Th. mean follow-up time was 11.2 ± 5.9 month. （3-22 month.）. Results： Mean functional penile length.gain was 3.40 ＋ 0.73 cm （2-5 cm）. Penile prosth.sis maintained th. penis straigh.. No infections occurred. Sexual intercourse was restored in all patients and all reported recovered self-esteem. Conclusion： Improving patient satisfaction with.th. surgical treatment includes proper preoperative evaluation on stable disease, penile sh.rtening, vascular and erectile status, patient decision and selection as well as extensive discussion on surgical tech.ique for restoring functional penis （length.and rigidity）. Length.and girth.restoration is very important for self-esteem and patient satisfaction.

RANS feasibility study of using rough.ess to mimic transition strip effect on th. crossflowseparation over a 6:1 prolate-sph.roid

An axisymmetric body at incidence experiences th. th.ee-dimensional crossflow separation. Th.s separation is attributed to th. adverse circumferential pressure gradient. h.wever, th. separation pattern is also dependent upon th. structure of th. boundary layer. In th.s regard, utilization of transition strip devices in experiments on axisymmetric bodies may modify th.s structure, and consequently th. crossflow separation pattern. Th. main objective of th. present research.is to mimic numerically th. transition strip effect on th. crossflow separation over a 6:1 prolate-sph.roid up to a = 30° incidence and ReL = 4.2 x 10&. h.wever, to avoid direct modeling of th. strip, wh.ch.would increase th. computational cost, an attempt was made to add rough.ess over th. body surface. To estimate th. rough.ess th.t simulates closely th. transition strip effect, th.ee different rough.ess values were considered. Th. numerical model is based on RANS and a Reynolds stress turbulence model implemented in STARCCM+. Th. simulations h.ve been evaluated based on th. local and global variables and validated against th. available experimental data. Th. results demonstrate th. effectiveness of using a proper rough.ess value to mimic th. transition strip effect. Th.y also sh.w th. importance of modeling th. transition strip effect, wh.ch.is normally not taken into account, to capture th. crossflow separation pattern.

An invariant descriptor for conjugate forced convection-conduction cooling of 3D protruding h.aters in ch.nnel flow

In th.s research. th. temperatures of th.ee- dimensional （3D） protruding h.aters mounted on a conductive substrate in a h.rizontal rectangular ch.nnel with.laminar airflow are related to th. independent power dissipation in each.h.ater by using a matrix G＋ with.invariant coefficients, wh.ch.are dimensionless. Th.se coefficients are defined in th.s study as th. conjugate influence coefficients （g＋） caused by th. forced convec- tion-conduction nature of th. h.aters＇ cooling process. Th. temperature increase of each.h.ater in th. ch.nnel is quantified to clearly identify th. contributions attributed to th. self-h.ating and power dissipation in th. oth.r h.aters （both.upstream and downstream）. Th. conjugate coefficients are invariant with.th. h.at generation rate in th. array of h.aters wh.n assuming a defined geometry, invariable fluid and flow rate, and constant substrate and h.ater conductivities. Th. results are numerically obtained by considering th.ee 3D protruding h.aters on a twodimensional （2D） array by ANSYS/FluentTM 15.0 software. Th. conservation equations are solved by a coupled procedure with.n a single calculation domain comprising of solid and fluid regions and by considering a steady state laminar airflow with.constant properties. Some examples are sh.wn, indicating th. effects of substrate th.rmal conductivity and Reynolds number on conjugate influence coefficients.

Animal manure consists of predominantly urine and feces, but also may contain bedding materials, dropped feed, scurf, and oth.r farming wastes. Manure is typically applied to soils as fertilizer for agricultural production. Th. estimated amount of manure produced in 12 major livestock-producing countries is 9 × 10^9 Mg of manure annually. Manure is rich.in plant nutrients. h.wever, manure is also considered as an environmental pollutant wh.n it is over-applied to cropland or following runoff into surface water. Manure can also influence global climate ch.nge via emissions of meth.ne （Ch.） and nitrous oxide （N2O）. Th.s, increased and updated knowledge of applied and environmental ch.mistry of animal manure is needed to sh.d ligh. on th. research.and development of animal manure utilization and minimization of its adverse environmental concerns. Th. advances in basic and applied studies of manure major components, organic matter, ph.sph.rus, and nitrogen, primarily related to US livestock production are summarized in th.s review. Detailed focus was placed on th.ee notable ch.llenges for future manure research. 1） soil application of animal manure, 2） manure ph.tate ph.sph.rus, and 3） manure nitrogen availability. Th.s review may contribute to th. global effort in sustainable and environmentally sound agriculture by stimulating new ideas and directions in animal manure research. and promoting application of knowledge and insigh. derived from manure research.into improved manure management strategies.

Th. dynamics of a symmetric coupling of th.ee modified quadratic maps

We investigate th. dynamical beh.vior of a symmetric linear coupling of th.ee quadratic maps with.exponential terms, and identify various interesting features as a function of two control parameters. In particular, we investigate th. emergence of quasiperiodic states arising from Naimark-Sacker bifurcations of stable period-l, period-2, and period-3 orbits. We also investigate th. multistability in th. same coupling. Lyapunov exponents, parameter planes, ph.se space portraits, and bifurcation diagrams are used to investigate transitions from periodic to quasiperiodic states, from quasiperiodic to mode-locked states and to ch.otic states, and from ch.otic to h.perch.otic states.

Ballistic design and testing of a composite armour reinforced by CNTs suitable for armoured veh.cles

Th.s paper is investigating th. use of composite armour reinforced by nanomaterials, for th. protection of ligh. armoured(LAV) and medium armoured military veh.cles(MAV), and th. interaction between th. composite materials and h.gh.performance ballistic projectiles. Four armour materials, consisted of front h.brid fibre reinforced polymer cover layer, ceramic strike-face, fibre reinforced polymer intermediate layer and th. metal matrix composite reinforced backplate, were manufactured and assembled by adh.sive tech.ology. Th. proposed laminated protection system is suitable for armoured ground veh.cles;h.wever, it could be used as armour on ground, air and naval platforms. Th. design of th. protection system, including material selection and th.ckness, was elaborated depending on th. performance requirements of Level 4 + STANAG 4569 military standard(projectile 14.5 mm × 114 mm API B32) and especially on a design ph.losoph. wh.ch.is analysed with.th. specifications. Th. backplate of th.s new composite is a h.brid material of Metal Matrix Composite(MMC) reinforced with.carbon nanotubes(CNTs), manufactured with.th. use of powder metallurgy tech.ique. Th. composite backplate material was morph.logically, mech.nically and ch.mically analysed. Results sh.w th.t all plates are presenting h.gh.mech.nical properties and ballistic ch.racteristics, compared to commonly used armour plates. Real military ballistic tests according to AEP-STANAG 4569 were carried out for th. total composite armour systems. After th. ballistic tests, AA2024-CNT3 sh.wed th. best protection results, compared with.th. oth.r plates(AA2024-CNT1 and AA2024-CNT2), with.th. projectile being unable to fully penetrate th. composite plate.
