Biomedical perspectives About Women with Chronic pelvic pain:A Qualitative Analysis

Because the aetiology of chronic pelvic pain is complex, studies of the condition involve extensive investigation but provide few conclusions. Numerous studies have addressed the experiences of women with chronic pelvic pain, as well as the interaction between those women and their health care providers. Our objective was to investigate how physicians at a specialised clinic perceive the medical care provided to such women. This was a qualitative study employing semi-structured interviews and content analysis. We interviewed seven physicians at the Chronic pelvic pain Outpatient Clinic of the University Hospital, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeir?o preto, University of S?o paulo, Brazil. Medical training and practice constituted the central theme of the study, which was subdivided into categories addressing the influence that the current medical training has on the type of medical care provided to women with chronic pelvic pain. Medical practice has been characterised by a reductionist approach to health and illness, as well as by the fragmentation of health care. These characteristics are, to a certain extent, the result of the biomedical model of education, which has been predominant, ignoring social, cultural, psychological and emotional aspects. There is a need to shift the medical paradigms toward a humanistic model of health care. We hope that we have provided a critical view of current medical training and practice, as well as of their effects in various health care settings, particularly in the provision of care to women with chronic pelvic pain.

The incidence of Mycobacterium avium complex pulmonary disease (MACpD) has been globally increasing. The present study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of clinical characteristics and treatment response among patients in the Amazon region of Brazil and conduct a retrospective cohort study at a prominent referral hospital in the State of par, Brazil, from 2012 to 2020. The M. avium group represented 58.9% of cases, followed by M. intracellulare (35.7%), M. colombiense (3.6%), and M. chimaera (1.8%). The majority of patients (73.2%) were female and with an average age of 63 years. primary clinical manifestations included persistent cough and sputum production. The Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) averaged 2.47, with 36.3% of patients having a CCI score equal to higher than 3. Notably, over 70% of patients had received treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis before initiating treatment for MAC infection. The fibrocavitary radiologic form was the most prevalent (55.4%), frequently exhibiting a bilateral distribution (53.6%). Antimicrobial susceptibility revealed a significant prevalence of MAC resistance to drugs in the therapeutic regimen. Despite this, most of the patients experienced clinical improvement (50%). In conclusion, this study highlights a higher prevalence of MAC infections among middle-aged women, with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment and presenting the fibrocavitary radiological form was predominant.

Old climatically-buffered infertile landscapes(OCBILs):more than harsh habitats,Atlantic Forest inselbergs can be drivers of evolutionary diversity

Granite-gneiss rock outcrop inselbergs are ancient stable ecosystems with old,climaticallybuffered infertile landscapes(OCBILs).Although inselbergs provide key ecosystem services,little is done for their conservation and,so far,a lot of their unknown evolutionary history has already been lost by human *** a fine-scale approach,here we tested if habitat and environmental filtering(the inselberg’s harshness)affect the evolutionary diversity of an Atlantic Forest inselberg in *** recorded all trees with a diameter at breast height≥5cm in 20 plots in four habitat types(total sampled area of 0.8 hectares),from highest to lowest:island,hillside,foothill,and semideciduous forest(matrix).We also collected soil samples for chemical,textural and physical soil *** fitted linear models to test the effects of soil and habitat on plotlevel metrics of phylogenetic diversity and structure,lineage diversity,phylogeneticβ-diversity,and evolutionary *** found that the upper inselberg habitats contain a distinct set of ancient,closely related,harsh-tolerant lineages,as well as a subset of lineages that persist under harsh conditions with a certain degree of water *** inferior inselberg habitats harbor higher lineage diversity than expected by *** strongly predicted evolutionary *** concluded that soil depth,slope,nutrients and texture(environmental filtering)and habitat types and topography(habitat filtering)shape the evolutionary history contained in fine-scale inselberg habitats,which should encourage the conservation of these ancient ecosystems.

Employment of Waste from the Textile Industry for the production of Nanocomposites Aiming at the Generation of Thermal Shrinkable Films and the Non-Formation of Microplastics

With the increase of incorrectly discarded materials in the environment, including clothes, the need for recycling and reusing them becomes one of the alternatives to work around this problem, following the law of the 3 Rs. However, these polymeric materials which are deposited in the marine environment and land generate microplastics, due to their degradation/fragmentation due to the action of the weather, in these regions, including being carried by the air and transported from various regions. With the aim of reducing the impact of this inappropriate disposal and obtaining a material that does not generate microplastics, this study used waste from the textile industry, which would be unusable, and a biodegradable polymer. The tissue residues were submitted to acid hydrolysis with sulfuric acid, in order to weaken the interactions between the cellulose fibrils and promote a better dispersion of the latter when processed with the polymer, during the extrusion process, generating biodegradable polymeric nanocomposites. The results showed that the samples submitted to acid hydrolysis presented a higher degree of crystallinity and a greater number of interactions and lower mobility of hydrogen atoms. In addition, the samples treated for a longer time showed a small release of fibrils, suggesting that this treatment can help in the production of nanocomposites during their extrusion.

^(11)C-pK11195 is a positron emitter tracer used for positron Emission Tomography(pET)imaging of innate immune cell activation in studies of neuroinflammatory *** the image quantitative analysis,it is necessary to quantify the intact fraction of this tracer in the arterial plasma during imaging acquisition(plasma intact fraction).Due to the complexity and costs involved in this analysis it is important to evaluate the real necessity of individual analysis in each 11C-pK11195 pET imaging *** purpose of this study is to compare 11CpK11195 plasma metabolization rate between healthy controls and multiple sclerosis(MS)patients and evaluate the interference of sex,age,treatment,and disease phenotype in the tracer intact fraction measured in arterial plasma samples.11C-pK11195 metabolization rate in arterial plasma was quantified by high performance liquid chromatography in samples from MS patients(n=50)and healthy controls(n=23)at 20,45,and 60 minutes after 11C-pK11195 *** were also stratified by sex,age,treatment type,and MS *** results showed no significant differences in the metabolization rate of healthy controls and MS patients,or in the stratified *** conclusion,11C-pK11195 metabolization has the same rate in patients with MS and healthy controls,which is not affected by sex,age,treatment,and disease ***,these findings could contribute to exempting the necessity for tracer metabolization determination in all 11C-pK11195 pET imaging acquisition,by using a population metabolization rate *** study procedures were approved by the Ethics Committee for Research projects Analysis of the Hospital das Clinicas of the University of Sao paulo Medical School(approval No.624.065)on April 23,2014.

Morphological and kinetic parameters of the absorption of nitrogen forms for selection of Eucalyptus clones

Eucalyptus clones are selected according to productivity,wood quality,rooting capacity,and resistance to drought,frost and ***,kinetic and morphological parameters that determine the absorption efficiency of nutrients such as nitrate(NO_(3)^(-)) and ammonium(NH_(4)^(+))are often not considered in breeding *** objective of this study was to evaluate the morphological,physiological and kinetic parameters of nitrogen uptake by clones of Eucalyptus saligna(32,864) and Eucalyptus grandis(GpC23).Morphological parameters in shoot and root systems,biomass and N concentrations in different organs,photosynthetic pigment concentrations,parameters of chlorophyll a fluorescence and photosynthetic rates were *** parameters,maximum absorption velocity(V_(max)),Michaelis-Menten constant(K_(m)),minimum concentration(C_(min)) and influx(I) were calculated for NO_(3)^(-)and NH_(4)^(+) in the two *** clone was more efficient in the uptake of NO_(3)^(-)and NH_(4)^(+),and showed lower K_(m) and C_(min)values,allowing for the absorption of nitrogen at low concentrations due to the high affinity of the absorption sites of clone roots to NO_(3)^(-)and NH_(4)^(+).Higher root lengths,area and volume helped the *** clone in absorption efficiency and consequently,resulted in higher root and shoot *** *** clone had higher K_(m) and Cmin for NO_(3)^(-)and NH_(4)^(+),indicating adaptation to environments with higher N *** results of NO_(3)^(-)and NH_(4)^(+) kinetic parameters indicate that they can be used in Eucalyptus clone selection and breeding programs as they can predict the ability of clones to absorb NO_(3)^(-)and NH_(4)^(+) at different concentrations.

Cytomegalovirus is the most frequent agent of congenital viral infections,affecting approximately 0.2%-2.4%of live births in different countries[1-7].Universal screening for congenital cytomegalovirus infection in newborns is not a standard practice considering cost-benefit issues and viabil-ity of diagnostic ***,most newborns are asympto-matic and there is no effective treatment for this population[2-5].
