We present here results from our search for X-ray pulsations of the neu- tron star in the low mass X-ray binary EXO 0748-676 at a frequency near the burst- oscillation frequency of 44.7 Hz. Using the observations made with the Proportional Counter Array onboard the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer, we did not find any pulsations in the frequency band of 44.4Hz to 45.0Hz and obtained a 3σ upper limit of 0.47% on the pulsed fraction for any possible underlying pulsation in this frequency band. We also discuss the importance of EXO 0748-676 as a promising source for the detection of Gravitational Waves.

CR geometry studies the boundary of pseudo-convex manifolds. By concentrating on a choice of a contact form, the local geometry bears strong resemblence to conformal geometry. This paper deals with the role conformally invariant operators such as the Paneitz operator plays in the CR geometry in dimension three. While the sign of this operator is important in the embedding problem, the kernel of this operator is also closely connected with the stability of CR structures. The positivity of the CR-mass under the natural sign conditions of the Paneitz operator and the CR Yamabe operator is discussed. The CR positive mass theorem has a consequence for the existence of minimizer of the CR Yamabe problem. The pseudo-Einstein condition studied by Lee has a natural analogue in this dimension, and it is closely connected with the pluriharmonic *** author discusses the introduction of new conformally covariant operator P-prime and its associated Q-prime curvature and gives another natural way to find a canonical contact form among the class of pseudo-Einstein contact forms. Finally, an isoperimetric constant determined by the Q-prime curvature integral is discussed.

Chronic hepatitis C virus （HCV） infection afflicts a reported 170 million people worldwide and is often complicated by cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Morbidity and mortality are decreased with the successful treatment of chronic HCV infection. Increased understanding of the HCV has allowed further development of new direct-acting antiviral （DAA） agents against the HCV and has also allowed the development of IFN-free oral treatment regimens. In late 2013 the first nucleotide polymerase inhibitor regimen with RBV alone for genotypes 2/3 and in combination with a 12-week regimen of PEG-IFN ＋ RBV for genotypes 1, 4 was approved for use in the US. A number of promising new DAA regimens which are IFN-free are in phase 3 development and the first will likely be approved for use in the US in 2014. The currently approved regimens are discussed in detail and currently available data on future regimens are reviewed herein.

This study presents new thickness maps of post-Cretaceous sedimentary strata beneath central London. 〉1100 borehole records were analysed. London Clay is thickest in the west; thicker deposits extend as a narrow finger along the axis of the London Basin. More minor variations are probably governed by periglacial erosion and faulting. A shallow anticline in the Chalk in north-central London has resulted in a pronounced thinning of succeeding strata. These results are compared to the position of London Underground railway tunnels. Although tunnels have been bored through the upper levels of London Clay where thick, some tunnels and stations are positioned within the underlying, more lithologically variable, Lower London Tertiary deposits. Although less complex than other geological models of the London Basin, this technique is more objective and uses a higher density of borehole data. The high resolution of the resulting maps emphasises the power of modelling an expansive dataset in a rigorous but simnle fashion.

Since 2007 we have began to consider the relationships between the different members of the Bemisia tabaci species complex in a more structured and systematic *** of these relationships has been infered from considerations of a portion of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase one（mtCOI）*** this is a quite limited approach which would benefit from the consideration of a much greater diversity of genetic material,it is the only publically available data that spans the diversity of the species *** the limitations,the phylogenetic reconstruction that can be derived from this data is useful and can be used as a basis to frame questions and construct testable hypotheses that will form the basis for future *** study uses the largest available mtCOI dataset,consisting of 383 unique mtCOI haplotypes that spans the full diversity of the *** species complex as we currently know it,to make a range of observations which are then used to develop questions as guide for future research.

Update on the prevention of local recurrence and peritoneal metastases in patients with colorectal cancer

The prevention of a disease process has always been superior to the treatment of the same disease throughout the history of medicine and surgery. Local recurrence and peritoneal metastases occur in approximately 8% of colon cancer patients and 25% of rectal cancer patients and should be prevented. Strategies to prevent colon or rectal cancer local recurrence and peritoneal metastases include cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic perioperative chemotherapy (HIPEC). These strategies can be used at the time of primary colon or rectal cancer resection if the HIPEC is available. At institutions where HIPEC is not available with the treatment of primary malignancy, a proactive second-look surgery is recommended. Several phase II studies strongly support the proactive approach. If peritoneal metastases were treated along with the primary colon resection, 5-year survival was seen and these results were superior to the results of treatment after peritoneal metastases had developed as recurrence. Also, prophylactic HIPEC improved survival with T3/T4 mucinous or signet ring colon cancers. A second-look has been shown to be effective in two published manuscripts. Unpublished data from MedStar Washington Cancer Institute also produced favorable date. Rectal cancer with peritoneal metastases may not be so effectively treated. There are both credits and debits of this proactive approach. Selection factors should be reviewed by the multidisciplinary team for individualized management of patients with or at high risk for peritoneal metastases.

Fractures across the stages of chronic kidney disease （CKD） could be due to osteoporosis, some form of renal osteodystrophy defined by specific quantitative histomorphometry or chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder （CKD-MBD）. CKD-MBD is a systemic disease that links disorders of mineral and bone metabolism due to CKD to either one or all of the following： abnormalities of calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone or vitamin D metabolism; abnormalities in bone turnover, mineralization, volume, linear growth or strength; or vascular or other soft-tissue calcification. Osteoporosis, as defined by the National Institutes of Health, may coexist with renal osteodystrophy or CKD-MBD. Differentiation among these disorders is required to manage correctly the correct disorder to reduce the risk of fractures. While the World Health Organization （WHO） bone mineral density （BMD） criteria for osteoporosis can be used in patients with stages 1-3 CKD, the disorders of bone turnover become so aberrant by stages 4 and 5 CKD that neither the WHO criteria nor the occurrence of a fragility fracture can be used for the diagnosis of osteoporosis. The diagnosis of osteoporosis in stages 4 and 5 CKD is one of the exclusion--excluding either renal osteodystrophy or CKD- MBD as the cause of low BMD or fragility fractures. Differentiations among the disorders of renal osteodystrophy, CKD-MBD or osteoporosis are dependent on the measurement of specific biochemical markers, including serum parathyroid hormone （PTH） and/or quantitative bone histomorphometry. Management of fractures in stages 1-3 CKD does not differ in persons with or without CKD with osteoporosis assuming that there is no evidence for CKD-MBD, clinically suspected by elevated PTH, hyperphosphatemia or fibroblast growth factor 23 due to CKD. Treatment of fractures in persons with osteoporosis and stages 4 and 5 CKD is not evidence-based, with the exception of post-hoc analysis suggesting efficacy and safety of specific o

Intraocular ointment is conventionally placed on the eye to prevent infection after cataract *** purpose of this study is to report a case and conduct a systematic review of a rare occurrence of the entry of intraocular ointment after cataract ***,Scopus,Embase,CNKI,WANFANG data,China Science and Technology Journal Database and Chinese Medical Journal Full-text Database were systematically searched from their commencement to 30 th October 2023,and 19 literatures were screened out and 31 cases of intraocular ointment after surgery were *** the 31 patients,the age of presentation ranged from 55 to 87 years with a median of 73,males accounted for 45.2%and females accounted for 32.3%.The length of the incision was generally 3.2 *** of the patients detected ointment within 3 days post-operation and presented without complications(45.2%).The most common ocular manifestations were corneal edema,glaucoma and *** postoperative follow-up is very *** of anterior chamber ointment is a rare complication after cataract surgery,but it can lead to severe vision loss if not detected and treated on *** patients complain of foreign body sensation in the in the eye after cataract surgery,ophthalmologists need to take a kin interest and examine the eye for early detection of ointment for appropriate intervention and prevent further complications.

Geochemical characteristics of saturate hydrocar-bons in crude oils and source rocks of the Qaidam,Tarim,Tupran basins,NW China

Based on the systematic analyses of fifteen typical crude oils and ten typical potential source rocks col-lected from the Qaidam,Tarim and Turpan basins,Northwest China,the geochemical characteristics of the oils and source rocks were investigated and oil-source rock correlations *** oils and source rocks deposited in saline lacustrine environment from the western Qaidam Basin were characterized by n-alkanes with even car-bon-number preference in the C20-C28 range,low pristane/phytane(Pr/Ph) ratios(less than 0.5),and high abundances of C27 steranes,gammacerane and C35 *** oils and source rocks deposited in marine environment from the Tarim Basin were characterized by n-alkanes with even carbon-number preference in the C14-C18 range,relatively low Pr/Ph ratios(near to 1),high abundance of C28 steranes,and relatively high *** contrast,the oils and source rocks deposited in terrigenous bog environment from the Turpan Basin were characterized by relatively high Pr/Ph ratios(oil samples greater than 6) high abundance of C29 steranes,and relatively low gammacerane and C31-35 *** higher amounts of C37 and C38 n-alkanes of source rocks from the western Qaidam Basin and the Tarim Basin suggest an origin of these alkanes from functionalized C37 and C38 n-alkadienes and alkenones in prymnesiophytes living in lacustrine and marine ***-source rock correlations suggest oils in the west-ern Qaidam Basin were derived from the Oligocene Lower Ganchaigou Formation(E3),oils in the Tabei and Tazhong uplifts from the Tarim Basin have a genetic relationship with the Middle-Upper Ordovician source *** in the Turpan Basin generally fall into two genetic *** oils in the Taibei depression from the Turpan Basin were derived from the Lower-Middle Jurassic coal measures,but the fewer oils in this region are a mixed source derived from the Lower-Middle Jurassic coal measure and the Upper Permian source rocks.
