Background:Skeletal muscle energetics decline with age,and physical activity(PA)has been shown to offset these declines in older ***,many studies reporting these effects were based on self-reported PA or structured exercise ***,we examined the associations of accelerometry-measured and self-reported PA and sedentary behavior(SB)with skeletal muscle energetics and explored the extent to which PA and sedentary behavior would attenuate the associations of age with muscle ***:As part of the Study of muscle,mobility and Aging,enrolled older adults(n=879),810(age=76.4±5.0 years old,mean±SD;58%women)had maximal muscle oxidative capacity measured ex vivo via high-resolution re spirometry of permeabilized myofibers(maximal oxidative phosphorylation(maxOXPHOS))and in vivo by ^(31)phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy(maximal adenosine triphosphate(ATP_(max))).Accelerometry-measured sedentary behavior,light activity,and moderate-to-vigorous PA(mVPA)were assessed using a wrist-worn ActiGraph GT9X over 7 ***-reported sedentary behavior,mVPA,and all PA were assessed with the Community Healthy Activities model Program for Seniors(CHAmPS)*** regression models with progressive covariate adjustments evaluated the associations of sedentary behavior and PA with muscle energetics,as well as the attenuation of the age/muscle energetics association by mVP A and sedentary *** a sensitivity analysis,we also examined activPAL-measured daily step count and time spent in sedentary behavior and their associations with muscle ***:Every 30 min/day more of ActiGraph-measured mVPA was associated with 0.65 pmol/(s×mg)higher maxOXPHOS and 0.012 mm/s higher ATP_(max)after adjusting for age,site/technician,and sex(pmaxOXPHOS or ATP_(max).meanwhile,every 30 min/day spent in ActiGraph-measured sedentary behavior was associated with 0.39 pmol/s×mg lower maxOXPHOS and0.

molecular oxygen abundance is a key parameter in understanding the chemical network of the interstellar *** estimate the molecular oxygen column density and abundance for a sample of Galactic massive star formation regions based on observations from the Submillimiter Wave Astronomy Satellite(SWAS)*** obtained an averaged O_(2)spectrum based on this sample using the(SWAS)survey data(O_(2),487.249 GHz,N=3-1,J=3-2).No emission or absorption feature is seen around the supposed central velocity with a total integration time of t_(total)=8.67×10^(3)hr and an rms noise per channel of 1.45 m *** a kinetic temperature T_(kin)=30 K,we derive the 3σupper limit of the O_(2)column density to be 3.3×10^(15)cm^(-2),close to the lowest values reported in Galactic massive star formation regions in previous *** corresponding O_(2)abundance upper limit is6.7×10^(-8),lower than all previous results based on SWAS observations and is close to the lowest reported value in massive star formation *** a galactic scale,our statistical results confirm a generally low O_(2)abundance for Galactic massive star formation *** abundance is also lower than results reported in extragalactic sources.

Cervical myelopathy: Diagnostic Aspects, Surgical Treatment and Evolution of Patients Operated upon in Yaounde

Introduction: Although cervical myelopathy is the most common degenerative cervical spine pathology in adults, the indications and approaches of surgical treatment have not yet been clearly defined in the literature. Very few studies exist regarding these aspects in our setting, and they are mostly outdated. This study aimed to describe the diagnostic aspects, current surgical treatment with technical improvements, and progression in patients. Patients and methods: We conducted a multicentre retrospective descriptive study over a 10-year period between January 2011 and January 2020 in three referral centres in Yaoundé. All patients who underwent surgery for cervical myelopathy were included. Results: Fifty-two patients were recruited. The rate of operated cervical myelopathies among all degenerative spinal pathologies was 14.05%. The m/F sex ratio was 3/1, and the average age was 52 ± 10 years. All included patients had gait problems, 90.38% demonstrated motor deficiency, and 67.30% experienced at least three levels of compression. Surgery was decided based on the Nurick grade;a posterior approach was applied to 86.54% of patients. Postoperative progression showed a neurological improvement of 82% with an average follow-up of 4 years. Conclusion: In this study, the patients who underwent surgery were relatively young, their clinical presentations were mostly advanced, and surgical management showed good results in well-selected cases.

Influences of Biochar and Biochar-mineral Complex on mycorrhizal Colonisation and Nutrition of Wheat and Sorghum

The high price of synthetic fertilisers and the price barrier for biochar as a soil amendment have encouraged the exploration of using biochar in fertiliser replacement formulations. Biochars coupled with fertilisers can be applied at lower application rates to achieve benefits in plant growth and nutrition, as well as soil biological fertility. It is necessary to evaluate the use of biochar as a fertiliser substitute. Therefore, this study investigated the comparative influences of biochars, including Acacia saligna （AS）, Simcoa jarrah （S J） and Wundowie jarrah （W J）, mineral fertiliser with microbes （mF ＋ m）, biochar-mineral complex （BmC） and their combination on mycorrhizal colonisation, growth and nutrition of wheat in a glasshouse experiment and sorghum in field conditions. BmC ＋ mF ＋ m treatment produced higher mycorrhizal colonisation than mF ＋ m alone, indicating that BmC had a significant role in increasing mycorrhizal colonisation. SJ （treated with acetic acid） and mF ＋ m treatments, as well as AS ＋ mF ＋ m application, showed similar effects on mycorrhizal colonisation, but lower colonisation than the BmC ＋ mF ＋ m treatment. Ovcrall~ the BmC ＋ mF ＋ m treatment supported the maximum shoot, root and total plant dry weight followed by AS ＋ mF ＋ m and WJ ＋ mF ＋ m. The mF ＋ m treatment had the maximum shoot N and K concentrations, while BmC ＋ mF ＋ m application had the maximum shoot P concentration. AS ＋ mF -4- m and WJ ＋ mF ＋ m treatments supported the maximum N uptake by wheat shoots, while BmC ＋ mF ＋ m supported the maximum P uptake. The results showed that biochars and BmCs could increase mycorrhizal colonisation, plant growth and nutrient uptake of wheat, particularly N, P, K, S and Zn. The field experiment confirmed that BmC application at a rate of 300 kg ha-1 could increase the yield of irrigated sorghum on a loam soil and provide better applied P use efficiency compared to a water-soluble fertiliser alone. Carbonate electrolytes are one of the most desirable electrolytes for high-energy lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs)because of their successful implementation in commercial Li-ion *** low-polysulfide-solubility feature of some carbonate solvents also makes them very promising for overcoming the shuttle effects of ***,regular sulfur electrodes experience undesired electrochemical mechanisms in carbonate electrolytes due to side *** this study,we report a catalytic redox mechanism of sulfur in propylene carbonate(PC)electrolyte based on a compari-son *** catalytic mechanism is characterized by the interactions between polysulfides and dual N/O functional groups on the host carbon,which largely prevents side reactions between pol-ysulfides and the carbonate *** a mechanism coupled with the low-polysulfide-solubility feature leads to stable cycling of LSBs in PC *** dual N/O functional groups are identified via a density functional theory *** work provides an alternative route for enabling LSBs in carbonate electrolytes.

An Efficient Tide-Surge Interaction model for the Coast of Bangladesh

The numerical method of lines(mOLs)in coordination with the classical fourth-order Runge Kutta(RK(4,4))method is used to solve shallow water equations(SWEs)for foreseeing water levels owing to the nonlinear interaction of tide and surge accompanying with a storm along the coast of *** SWEs are developed by extending the body forces with tide generating forces(TGFs).Spatial variables of the SWEs along with the boundary conditions are approximated by means of finite difference technique on an Arakawa C-grid to attain a system of ordinary differential equations(ODEs)of initial valued in time,which are being solved with the aid of the RK(4,4)*** grid technique is adopted to solve coastal complexities closely with least computational cost.A stable tidal solution in the region of our choice is produced by applying the tidal forcing with the major tidal constituent m2(lunar semi-diurnal)along the southern open-sea boundary of the outer *** experimentations are carried out to simulate water levels generated by the cyclonic storm AILA along the coast of *** model simulated results are found to be in a reasonable agreement with the limited available reported data and observations.
