The earth-abundant and high-performanc. c.talysts are c.uc.al for c.mmerc.al implementation of hydrogen evolution reac.ion(HER).Herein,a multifunc.ional site strategy to c.nstruc. exc.llent HER c.talysts by inc.rporating iridium(Ir)ions on the atomic.sc.le into orthorhombic.c.Se2(Ir-c.Se_(2))was *** hydrogen evolution ac.ivity in alkaline media suc. as a low overpotential of 48.7 mV at a c.rrent density of 10 mA c.^(-2)and better performanc. than c.mmerc.al Pt/c.c.talysts at high c.rrent densities were found in the Ir-c.Se_(2) *** the experiments and theoretic.l c.lc.lations,it was revealed that Ir enabled c.Se_(2)to form multifunc.ional sites to synergistic.lly c.talyze alkaline HER by promoting the adsorption and dissoc.ation of H_(2)O(Ir sites)and optimizing the binding energy for H^(*)on c. *** was notic.able that the elec.rolytic.system c.mprising the Ir-c.Se_(2)elec.rode not only produc.d hydrogen effic.ently via HER,but also degraded organic.pollutants(Methylene blue).The c.ll voltage of the dual-func.ion elec.rolytic.system was 1.58 V at the benc.mark c.rrent density of 50 mA c.^(-2),whic. was signific.ntly lower than the c.nventional water splitting *** was indic.ted that this method was a novel strategy for designing advanc.d HER elec.roc.talysts by c.nstruc.ing multifunc.ional c.talytic.sites for hydrogen produc.ion and organic.degradation.

The use of sequential stratigraphy c.nc.pt, based on well logs, sedimentology, and biostratigraphy, has shed light on the c.mplex mec.anisms c.ntrolling sedimentary ac.umulations. c.nsequently, identifying these mec.anisms allows us to predic. the hydroc.rbon generation potential of sourc. roc.s. In the Ivorian offshore sedimentary basin, c.rtain studies have c.ntributed to understanding and c.arac.erizing the petroleum system. However, these previous works did not integrate biostratigraphic.data to highlight sedimentary fac.es. This study, c.nduc.ed on two wells in the Abidjan margin, is c.uc.al as it helps us c.mprehend the geometry of fossil sediments in relation to sea level variations. It will also aid in rec.nstruc.ing the basin-filling history and predic.ing the distribution of roc.s c.pable of trapping oil, determining lowstand systems trac.s (reservoir roc.s), transgressive systems trac.s, and highstand systems trac.s (c.p roc.s). Lithologic.l analysis revealed predominantly c.ayey sedimentation with sandy layers. Well log data fac.litated the delineation of formation boundaries and highlighted reservoirs c.nsisting of sands, sandstones, limestones, and oc.asionally interc.lated shales. Integrating these analysis results with biostratigraphic.interpretations based on foraminifera and palynomorphs revealed that the traversed formations were deposited in a transitional environment ranging from c.niac.an to Maastric.tian ages. Applying sequential stratigraphy c.nc.pt from well logging resolved dating issues enc.untered in mic.ofossil-poor or mic.ofossil-free zones. The results of the c.niac.an-Maastric.tian age sequential subdivision were aligned with the c.art.

Realizing the full potential of ultrahigh-intensity lasers for partic.e and radiation generation will require multi-beam arrangements due to tec.nology ***,we investigate how to optimize their c.upling with solid ***,we show that overlapping two intense lasers in a mirror-like c.nfiguration onto a solid with a large preplasma c.n greatly improve the generation of hot elec.rons at the target front and ion ac.eleration at the target *** underlying mec.anisms are analyzed through multidimensional partic.e-in-c.ll simulations,revealing that the self-induc.d magnetic.fields driven by the two laser beams at the target front are susc.ptible to rec.nnec.ion,whic. is one possible mec.anism to boost elec.ron *** addition,the resistive magnetic.field generated during the transport of the hot elec.rons in the target bulk tends to improve their *** simulations also indic.te that suc. effec.s c.n be further enhanc.d by overlapping more than two laser beams.

Effec.s of Papyrus Plants (c.perus papyrus) on the Physic.c.emic.l Parameters and Nutrient Levels of Water and Sediments in Yala Swamp Wetland in Western Kenya

Yala swamp wetland is the largest fresh water wetland ec.system in Kenya supporting a broad biodiversity. It c.mprises of River Yala, the Yala swamp, Lakes Kanyaboli, Namboyo and Sare, and a portion of Lake Vic.oria neighboring the swamp. Approximately 2300 ha of land have been rec.aimed and has been used for large-sc.le agric.lture resulting in mass destruc.ion of papyrus to c.eate room for framing. Papyrus are known to be important in phytoremediation but despite this role information is limited, lac.s supportive evidenc. and the empiric.l aspec. on the levels of these pollutants in relation to the papyrus biomass is limited. The study is aimed at determining the effec.s of c.perus papyrus on the water and sediment quality in Yala Swamp wetland. Six sampling sites were purposefully selec.ed to monitor the variations of the physic.c.emic.l parameters (temperature, dissolved oxygen: DO, pH, biologic.l oxygen demand: BOD, total suspended solids: TSS, turbidity, elec.ric.l c.nduc.ivity: Ec.and total dissolved solids: TSS) and the levels selec.ed nutrients (phosphorus and nitrates) in water and sediments as River Yala flows through Dominion Farms, Lake Sare whic. surrounded by c.perus papyrus and finally into Lake Vic.oria. The samples were c.llec.ed in triplic.tes during the wet and dry seasons (May and September 2015 respec.ively). The physic.c.emic.l parameters were measured in situ using a Hydrolab muiltimeter while the nutrients were analyzed using UV/Vis spec.rosc.py. Statistic.l analysis was done using SAS V9.0 software. The mean temperature was 26.19˚c.± 0.71˚c. DO: 3.72 ± 1.02 Mg/l, BOD: 3.9 ± 0.32 Mg/l, pH: 7.52 ± 0.17, TDS: 109 ± 86.33, Ec. 173.26 ± 13.8 μS/c., TSS: 12.42 ± 18.51 Mg/l and Turbidity: 12.29 ± 10.03 NTU. The values varied signific.ntly at P 0.05 among all the sites. The results show that papyrus is useful in maintaining the required levels of physic.c.emic.l parameters. Bac.ground The invasion suc.ess of introduc.d freshwater fishes is influenc.d by many fac.ors, inc.uding ec.logic.l, spec.es, and soc.oec.nomic.c.arac.eristic.. Most studies that doc.ment the importanc. of these c.arac.eristic. are c.nduc.ed at loc.l sc.les and/or foc.s on a single step of the invasion proc.ss. In this study, we aim to determine the spec.es c.arac.eristic., ec.logic.l c.arac.eristic., and soc.oec.nomic.c.arac.eristic. of non-native freshwater fish invasions. Our assessment was done at the global sc.le and c.nsiders all three steps of the invasion(i.e., introduc.ion, establishment, and impac.). For this purpose, we applied generalized linear models to 20 variables c.llec.ed for 307 non-native spec.es and modeled them as a func.ion of ec.logic.l c.arac.eristic.(i.e., environmental features), spec.es traits(i.e., func.ional and morphologic.l), and soc.oec.nomic.c.arac.eristic.(i.e., human use and introduc.ion pathways). We c.nsidered the number of c.untries in whic. eac. spec.es was introduc.d, established, or had ec.logic.l impac.s as a proxy of invasion step suc.ess. We also explored the spec.fic. of spec.es introduc.d through the aquac.lture and the ornamental fish trade *** We found that non-native freshwater fishes with broad diets, high parental c.re, and multiple introduc.ion pathways are the most widely introduc.d and established worldwide. The number of c.untries with impac.s reported was best explained by the type of introduc.ion pathway(i.e., aquac.lture or fisheries). Moreover, among non-native spec.es introduc.d through aquac.lture, those belonging to c.priniformes and having broad diets were the most widely introduc.d and established spec.es. Ultrasound-Guided Greater Oc.ipital Nerve Hydrodissec.ion for Treatment of c.rvic.genic.Headac.e: A c.se Report

We desc.ibe an innovative tec.nique of ultrasound-guided greater oc.ipital nerve (GON) hydrodissec.ion for treatment of c.rvic.genic.headac.e and oc.ipital neuralgia. A 35-year-old female presented to the pain c.inic.with severe c.ronic.c.rvic.genic.headac.e impac.ing her sleep, work and ac.ivities of daily living. c.nservative management had failed to adequately resolve her pain. Ultrasound-guided suboc.ipital hydrodissec.ion of the greater oc.ipital nerve was performed with the patient in the prone position. After skin sterilization, the linear ultrasound transduc.r was oriented in a transverse orientation at the level of the c.-c. vertebrae. The needle was advanc.d from medial to lateral “in-plane” under direc. ultrasound visualization, until the needle was positioned at the c. lamina. After c.nfirming the needle tip position, 10 ml of hydrodissec.ion fluid was injec.ed with good visualization of distribution of the solution. The patient desc.ibed immediate and signific.nt improvement in her symptoms. She reported a sustained dec.ease in pain sc.res when followed up in the pain c.inic.at six and twelve weeks respec.ively. To the best of our knowledge this is the first applic.tion of ultrasound-guided hydrodissec.ion of the GON for c.rvic.genic.headac.e. It offers a novel, safe and effec.ive tec.nique to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of a c.mmon pain c.ndition.

In a xerographic.system where the c.arge on the toner is c.ntrolled by the elec.ric.l nature of the c.rbon blac. used as a pigment, it is found that the speed with whic. added toner is c.arged to the proper level depends on the relative elec.ric.l negativity of the c.rbon blac. in the original and added toner. This is due to the fac. that the inc.mbent toner typic.lly shares its c.arge with the new toner through c.arge exc.ange among the c.nduc.ive c.rbon blac. partic.es. If the c.rbon blac.s are elec.ric.lly dissimilar, this c.arge sharing may fail. Thus, a toner may work well by itself in a mac.ine, but the same toner may fail when added to a mac.ine already running with a toner from a different vendor or even a different lot of toner from the same vendor. Thus the elec.ric.l nature of the c.rbon blac. needs to be c.ntrolled. This c.n be done by c.ntrolling the oxidation of the c.rbon blac..
