Recent scientific consensus suggests that climate-related disasters are becoming more frequent and ***,increasing importance is given to disaster risk reduction(DRR)and climate change adaptation(CCA)in global *** projected global warming at 1.5℃and the climate variability that the Philippine archipelago experiences make DRR-CCA the key priorities of both the national and local government *** this study,we assessed and measured the degree of mainstreaming of DRR-CCA in the comprehensive development plans(CDPs)of the five component cities in the province of Nueva Ecija in the *** are among the areas in Central Luzon that are susceptible to hydrometeorological and geologic *** distributed survey questionnaires to 25 employees of the local government units in the five component cities in Nueva Ecija who are directly involved in planning *** triangulated their responses using archival data(review of written policies and plans).The main findings of the study indicate that in spite the presence of laws and policies on DRR-CCA,their implementation is only in the preliminary *** results also provide insights to policymakers and future researchers on the challenges and opportunities influencing the systemic mainstreaming of DRR-CCA in the province.

Double Toeplitz(shortly DT)codes are introduced here as a generalization of double circulant *** authors show that such a code is isodual,hence formally self-dual(FSD).FSD codes form a far-reaching generalization of self-dual codes,the most important class of codes of rate ***-dual DT codes are characterized as double circulant or double ***,even binary DT codes are characterized as double *** examples obtained by exhaustive search show that the codes constructed have best-known minimum distance,up to one unit,amongst formally self-dual codes,and sometimes improve on the known *** q=2,the authors find four improvements on the best-known values of the minimum distance of FSD *** F4 an explicit construction of DT codes,based on quadratic residues in a prime field,performs equally *** authors show that DT codes are asymptotically good over ***,the authors construct DT codes arbitrarily close to the asymptotic Varshamov-Gilbert bound for codes of rate one half.

In recent years, large language models have achieved breakthroughs on a wide range of benchmarks in natural language processing and continue to increase in performance. Recently, the advances of large language models have raised interest outside the natural language processing community and could have a large impact on daily life. In this paper, we pose the question: How will large language models and other foundation models shape the future product development process? We provide the reader with an overview of the subject by summarizing both recent advances in natural language processing and the use of information technology in the engineering design process. We argue that discourse should be regarded as the core of engineering design processes, and therefore should be represented in a digital artifact. On this basis, we describe how foundation models such as large language models could contribute to the design discourse by automating parts thereof that involve creativity and reasoning, and were previously reserved for humans. We describe how simulations, experiments, topology optimizations, and other process steps can be integrated into a machine-actionable, discourse-centric design process. As an example, we present a design discourse on the optimization of wind turbine blades. Finally, we outline the future research that will be necessary for the implementation of the conceptualized framework.

Aggression has multiple benefits and is often coupled with other behaviors("behavioral syndromes").The level of aggressiveness is influenced by an adaptive benefit-cost ratio suggesting that benefits should outweigh the costs of ***,we assess if several behaviors are coupled in two behaviorally different populations(aggressive,peaceful)of the high-elevation ant Tetramorium *** three weeks,we collected colony fragments and analyzed boldness,exploring,foraging,and risk-taking *** hypothesized that the aggressive population is bolder,more explorative and risk-prone,and forages more food than the peaceful *** test whether(a)the combination of experiments and parameters used yields a good setup,(b)populations differ behaviorally,and(c)populations display behavioral syndromes,we assessed(a)the frequency of repeatable behaviors of each experiment,(b)the behavioral means among populations,and(c)the behavioral repeatability,*** found that(a)boldness and exploring were most repeatable and represent a good experimental setup,(b)the aggressive population was bolder and more explorative and risk-prone than the peaceful population,(c)boldness and exploring behaviors were highly repeatable in both populations,thus corroborating our *** results suggest that boldness,exploring,and risk-taking but not foraging are presumably coupled with aggression and indicate the presence of behavioral syndromes in this *** specific ecological conditions,aggression may be coupled with other behaviors and important for finding *** is probably adaptive in ***,possibly indicating that selection favors aggression at least partially,which may counteract the complete loss of intraspecific aggression.

Rational design of efficient pH-universal hydrogen evolution reaction catalysts to enable large-scale hydrogen production via electrochemical water splitting is of great significance,yet a challenging ***,Ru atoms in the Ru_(2)P structure were replaced with m=Co,Ni,or mo to produce m_(2-x)Ru_(x)P *** metals show strong site preference,with Co and Ni occupying the tetrahedral sites and Ru the square pyramidal sites of the CoRuP and NiRuP Ru_(2)P-type *** presence of Co or Ni in the tetrahedral sites leads to charge redistribution for Ru and,according to density functional theory calculations,a significant increase in the Ru d-band *** a result,the intrinsic activity of CoRuP and NiRuP increases considerably compared to Ru_(2)P in both acidic and alkaline *** effect is not observed for moRuP,in which mo prefers to occupy the pyramidal *** particular,CoRuP shows state-of-the-art activity,outperforming Ru_(2)P with Pt-like activity in 0.5 m H_(2)SO_(4)(η10=12.3 mV;η100=52 mV;turnover frequency(TOF)=4.7 s^(-1)).It remains extraordinarily active in alkaline conditions(η10=12.9 mV;η100=43.5 mV)with a TOF of 4.5 s^(-1),which is 4x higher than that of Ru_(2)P and 10x that of Pt/*** increase in the Co content does not lead to drastic loss of activity,especially in alkaline medium,where,for example,the TOF of Co_(1.9)Ru_(0.1)P remains comparable to that of Ru_(2)P and higher than that of Pt/C,highlighting the viability of the adopted approach to prepare cost-efficient catalysts.

The Trombe wall is a passive indirect heating system which should be used in Cusco,Peru to improve thermal conditions against the typical frosts and low temperatures during winter in the high Andean *** to this problem,the use of a modified Trombe wall with insertion of porous medium is proposed to improve thermal comfort in flat buildings in *** research aims to analyse and compare the performance of dwellings without Trombe wall,with traditional Trombe wall,and with Trombe wall with glass and plastic pellets insertion in thermal comfort ***■CFD was used to simulate and analyse the *** simulation was performed with three prototype flats(55 m^(2),75 m^(2) and 95 m^(2))for six months of the *** the results obtained,the level of thermal comfort in the traditional scenarios is low with an average PmV of-1.86,in the scenarios with Trombe wall is good and in the scenarios with Trombe wall with insertion of porous medium is slightly better than the previous one,reaching an average PmV of+0.10 and a temperature of 21.90℃.The study carried out is important because it represents an efficient eco-sustainable heating alternative that improves the thermal comfort sensation in houses during the coldest months of the year.

Neuroscientists have recognized the importance of astrocytes in regulating neurological function and their influence on the release of glial *** studies,however,have focused on the effects of general anesthetic agents on neuroglia or *** can also be an important target of general anesthetic agents as they exert not only sedative,analgesic,and amnesic effects but also mediate general anesthetic-induced neurotoxicity and postoperative cognitive ***,we analyzed recent advances in understanding the mechanism of general anesthetic agents on astrocytes,and found that exposure to general anesthetic agents will destroy the morphology and proliferation of astrocytes,in addition to acting on the receptors on their surface,which not only affect Ca^(2+)signaling,inhibit the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor and lactate from astrocytes,but are even involved in the regulation of the pro-and anti-inflammatory processes of *** would obviously affect the communication between astrocytes as well as between astrocytes and neighboring neurons,other neuroglia,and vascular *** this review,we summarize how general anesthetic agents act on neurons via astrocytes,and explore potential mechanisms of action of general anesthetic agents on the nervous *** hope that this review will provide a new direction for mitigating the neurotoxicity of general anesthetic agents.

Post-operative protein supplementation following orthopaedic surgery: A systematic review

Decreased mechanical loading after orthopaedic surgery predisposes patients to develop muscle *** purpose of this review was to assess whether the evidence supports oral protein supplementation can help decrease postoperative muscle atrophy and/or improve patient outcomes following orthopaedic surgery.A systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and metaAnalysis(PRISmA).Pubmed(mEDLINE),Embase,Scopus,and Web of Science were searched for randomized controlled trials that assessed protein or amino acid supplementation in patients undergoing orthopaedic *** investigators independently conducted the search using relevant Boolean *** outcomes included functional or physiologic measures of muscle atrophy or *** studies including 611 patients(224 males,387 females)were *** studies evaluated protein supplementation after ACL reconstruction(ACLR),3 after total hip arthroplasty(THA),5 after total knee arthroplasty(TKA),and 3 after surgical treatment of hip *** supplementation showed beneficial effects across all types of *** primary benefit was a decrease in muscle atrophy compared to placebo as measured by muscle cross sectional *** authors also demonstrated improved functional measures and quicker achievement of rehabilitation *** supplementation has beneficial effects on mitigating muscle atrophy in the postoperative period following ACLR,THA,TKA,and surgical treatment of hip *** effects often correlate with improved functional measures and quicker achievement of rehabilitation *** research is needed to evaluate long-term effects of protein supplementation and to establish standardized population-specific regimens that maximize treatment efficacy in the postoperative period.
