Balance improvement could contribute to ankle stability for the prevention of ankle *** electrical stimulation(FEs)is an effective way of augmenting muscle activity and improving *** study investigated the effect of FEs of peroneal muscles on single-and double-leg *** healthy females(age=23:1±1:6 years,height=1:63±0:07m,and weight=63:7±9:9 kg)performed single-and double-leg standing balance tests with eyes open and closed before and after 15-minute FEs intervention during treadmill running at a comfortable,self-selected *** of peroneal muscles was provided bilaterally,using an Odstock Dropped Foot *** total excursion of the centre of pressure(COP)was calculated to assess the standing balance control *** total excursion of COP in single-and double-leg stance with eyes open reduced significantly after FEs intervention by 14.7%(ps-closed condition exhibited a 12.7%(p=0:002)reduction in single-leg stance but did not significantly change in double-leg stance(p>0:05).Limb preference did not account for balance *** significant difference in total excursion of COP was found between preferred and less preferred limbs with both visual conditions(p>0:05).FEs of peroneal muscles improved standing balance control with eyes open in double-leg and single-leg stance and with eyes closed in double-leg *** improvements in balance control with FEs treatment did not vary concerning limb preference.

Trip and mode choice decisions to out-patient health care facilities:A longitudinal analysis

This paper analyzes the impact of health indicators on an individual's trip and mode choices to out-patient care *** study's focus is an out-patient trip to a health care facility,and the source of data is the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal study(CHARLs)for 2011.2013 and *** on a random utility framework,the study finds that making a rip to ureat an ilness or for a check-up increases the likelihood of an out-patient trip by 52 and 31 probability points,***-patient visits for which in-surance is not relevant,when the individual pays most of the out:of-pocket costs and when the facility is a public facility are also important *** and other per-sonal health factors have some but much more modest effects on one's trip *** analysis also identifies differential modal impacts of health indicators.A series of robustness tests generally confirm the results and identify areas for further *** a no-trip option,the biannual sunvey and infrequent out-patient trip-making mitigate endogeneity *** analysis has broad health policy and transportation implications for an ageing population whose share is increasing.

The Difficult Path from Perception to Precautionary Action-Participatory Modeling as a Practical Tool to Overcome the Risk Perception Paradox in Flood Preparedness

The risk perception paradox illustrates the perception of natural hazards as not directly related to a willingness to act or engage in precautionary behavior. Yet the utilization of participatory processes can help to overcome this gap. In a practical example in the watershed of the Danube River and its contributing streams in Germany,we aimed to solve questions about the value of participatory modeling as a method to bridge the gap linked to flood polder planning and a relocation of a dike for protection against high floods(centennial floods and rarer). Local communities, citizen initiatives, and nongovernmental environmental organizations joined together for round table discussions initiated by the water management authorities. A participatory modeling process enabled these diverse stakeholders to engage with the experts who built the groundwater models for the planning process. As part of this study, two case studies are presented. In the first example, neutral mediators assisted the round table ‘‘Flood Polder Katzau(Danube)'' in order to cultivate mutual trust and understanding between the authorities and the former opponents of the project. This process is still ongoing,challenged by long-term planning and the more immediate obstacle of current political changes. The second case studyis located on the river Alz, a tributary of the river Inn,which flows into the Danube, where the relocation of a dike was planned. This article demonstrates how participatory modeling contributes to bridging the gap between a local resident's risk perception and real action in the case of flood preparedness.

Automated and verifiable structural classification for atomistic structures is becoming necessary to cope with the vast amount of information stored in various computational materials *** we present a general recursive scheme for the structural classification of atomistic systems and introduce a structural materials map that can be used to organize the materials structure *** also introduce our implementation for the automatic classification of two-dimensional structures,especially focusing on surfaces and 2D *** classification procedure can automatically determine the dimensionality of a structure,further categorize the structure as a surface or a 2D material,return the underlying unit cell and also identify the outlier atoms,such as *** classification scheme does not require explicit search patterns and works even in the presence of defects and *** classification is tested on a wide variety of atomistic structures and provides a high-accuracy determination for all of the returned structural properties.A software implementation of the classification algorithm is freely available with an opensource license.

Introduction Using the information obtained from analysis of 16s rRNA gene sequences,Tsukamurella was first proposed as a genus in 1988,1 despite the fact that the first strain of this group of bacteria was described in 1941,2 and the first human isolate was reported in 1971.3 similar to related genera of the order Corynebacteriales,such as Nocardia,Rhodococcus,and Gordonia,members of Tsukamurella are Gram-positive,aerobic,catalase-positive,and partially acid-fast as a result of the presence of mycolic acid in the cell *** to their similar phenotypic properties,differentiation of these genera and speciation within these genera is difficult in most clinical microbiology laboratories.

A major challenge in runoff and soil erosion modelling is the adequate representation of the most relevant processes in models while avoiding over *** the European loess belt,pro-gressive soil crusting during rainfall events,resulting in infiltration-excess runoff,is usually considered the dominant process generating runoff on catchments covered with silty ***-excess may also occur and affect their runoff and erosion ***,saturation-excess runoff occurrence and quantification have rarely been performed and is usually not taken into account when modelling runoff and erosion in these ***,a continuous simulation of the Austreberthe catchment(214 km^(2)),located in the European loess belt(Normandy,France),was conducted with the new water and sediment(watersed)model over 12 years,corresponding to more than 780 individual rainfall events,at a 25 m spatial *** inter-annual variability of runoff and erosion was closely linked to the number of intense events per year and their distribution through the *** model was properly calibrated over a representative set of 35 rainfall events,considering either infiltration-excess and/or saturation-excess *** was also able to reproduce the measured runoff volume for most of the monitoring ***,the three years with most rainfall were adequately modelled only including saturation-excess *** analysis performed at the seasonal scale revealed that saturation was modelled in the catchment during almost all of the modelling period,suggesting the importance of this often overlooked process in current modelling attempts.

This paper describes an experimental investigation on the flow characteristics within a rotating cylinder containing a rolling bed of sand. The axis of the cylinder was horizontal and there was no axial bulk flow of particles. The velocity field of the gas flowing through the cylinder was measured by hot-wire anemometry. The measurements indicate that the velocity field is asymmetric with respect to a diameter perpendicular to the granular bed. CFD calculations confirm this finding. The gas velocity profiles are crucial in determining heat transfer from gas to solid.
