The chemical composition of PM_(2.5) at two sites in Lebanon,a country in the East Mediterranean-Middle East region,is investigated in the spring and summer *** average PM_(2.5) concentrations were of(29±16)μg/m 3 for Beirut urban site and(32±14)μg/m 3 for Beirut suburban *** study showed that the geographic location of the East Mediterranean region,such as its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and the dust storm intrusion are a significant contributor to the high PM levels from natural sources,which cannot be mitigated,rendering the PM_(2.5) WHO annual Air Quality guideline unattainable due to high natural background,which also applies to the entire Middle East *** and Eastern Europe are the dominant origin of air masses throughout our sampling days,suggesting the long-range transport as an important potential contributor to the high observed concentrations of V,Ni,and sulfate in this region most probably in other East Mediterranean countries than Lebanon *** local sources determined through the chemical speciation including organics are road transport,resuspension of dust and diesel private generators.A health risk assessment of airborne metals was performed and the carcinogenic risk for all the metals exceeded by 42(adults)and 14(children)times the acceptable risk level(10^(-6))at both *** was the predominant carcinogenic metal,emphasizing the need to replace energy production with cleaner energy on a regional level and highlighting the severe impact of air pollution on the health of inhabitants in this region’s main cities.

Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic pathogen that is an important cause of nosocomial infections. Detection of ESBL producers’ poses a special challenge for clinical microbiology laboratories, although ESBL producing pathogens are able to hydrolyze extended-spectrum penicillins, cephalosporins, and aztreonam, the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIc) of some and perhaps even all of these agents may be within the susceptible range. The third generation cephalosporins have the reputation for being useful against a broad range of bacterial infections. However, resistance to these agents is something that must still be considered and creates obstacles for their clinical use. A total of 80 multi drug resistant clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae were obtained from a study on anaerobes associated with Pelvic Inflammatory disease (P.I.D), KEMRI S.S.c No.495. The isolates were identified by standard microbiological procedures. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was carried out by Kirby-Bauer method. Upon identification, the antibiogram profiles of the isolates were determined and those resistant to third-generation cephalosporins were tested for production of ESBL. ESBL production among the multi drug resistant isolates was detected using the phenotypic confirmatory disc diffusion test (PcDDT) and double disk synergy test (DDST). While using standard double disk synergy test (DDST) as screening method for identifying potential ESBL producers, ceftriaxone was the most efficient antimicrobial in screening isolates as potential ESBL producers followed by cefotaxime.

The main purpose of this study was to examine the changes of national identity of china’s mainland,Hong Kong and Taiwan before,during and after the Beijing 2008 Olympic *** consists of three *** present study belongs to the phase *** 2 and 3 will be repeated measured in Mid August and December ***,the role of sport identity and physical activity level on the formation of national identity of chinese children would be investigated among these three *** differences of gender,age,birth and residential places,sport identity as well as physical activity level on national identity would be *** were 480 boys and 447 girls aged 12 to 17 years from junior secondary schools in china’s mainland,Hong Kong and Taiwan.A set of validated questionnaire was administered to assess the changes of national identity in the three time *** analysis revealed that national identity and sport identity as well as national identity and physical activity level were weakly associated. Multiple regression analysis was employed to examine the contribution of different constructs on children’s national *** birth-residential place and sport identity were found to be a significant predictor of national *** of independent t-test indicated that junior secondary students had significantly lower national identity and sport identity but higher physical activity level than senior secondary *** the other hand,no significant difference was found in national identity between the *** differences were only found in sport identity and physical activity levels,with boys higher than ***,One-way ANOVA demonstrated that the"china born-china residential"group had significantly higher level of physical activity than the 3 other groups. Introduction Using the information obtained from analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences,Tsukamurella was first proposed as a genus in 1988,1 despite the fact that the first strain of this group of bacteria was described in 1941,2 and the first human isolate was reported in 1971.3 Similar to related genera of the order corynebacteriales,such as Nocardia,Rhodococcus,and Gordonia,members of Tsukamurella are Gram-positive,aerobic,catalase-positive,and partially acid-fast as a result of the presence of mycolic acid in the cell *** to their similar phenotypic properties,differentiation of these genera and speciation within these genera is difficult in most clinical microbiology laboratories.

Scanning electrochemical cell microscopy(SEccM)is increasingly applied to determine the intrinsic catalytic activity of single electrocatalyst *** is especially feasible if the catalyst nanoparticles are large enough that they can be found and counted in post-SEccM scanning electron microscopy ***,this becomes impossible for very small nanoparticles and hence,a catalytic current measured in one landing zone of the SEccM droplet cannot be correlated to the exact number of catalyst *** show,that by introducing a ruler method employing a carbon nanoelectrode decorated with a countable number of the same catalyst particles from which the catalytic activity can be determined,the activity determined using SEccM from many spots can be converted in the intrinsic catalytic activity of a certain number of catalyst nanoparticles.

conductor–dielectric 0–3 nanocomposites using spherical nickel nanoparticles as filler and poly(vinylidene fluoride–trifluoroethylene)70/30 mol.%as matrix are prepared using a newly developed process that combines a solution cast and a hotpressing method with a unique configuration and creates a uniform microstructure in the *** uniform microstructure results in a high percolation threshold’φc(>55 vol.%).The dielectric properties of the nanocomposites at different frequencies over a temperature range from -70℃ to 135℃ are *** results indicate that the composites exhibit a lower electrical conductivity than the polymer *** is found that the nanocomposites can exhibit an ultra-high dielectric constant,more than 1500 with a loss of about 1.0 at 1 kHz,when the Ni content(53 vol.%)is close to percolation *** the nanocomposites with 50 vol.%Ni particles,a dielectric constant more than 600 with a loss less than 0.2 is *** is concluded that the loss including high loss is dominated by polarization process rather than the electrical *** is also found that the appearance of Ni particles has a strong influence on the crystallization process in the polymer matrix so that the polymer is converted from a typical ferroelectric to a relaxor *** is also demonstrated that the widely used relationship between the dielectric constant and the composition of the composites may not be valid.
