ceramic tiles were processed in this present work using clay mineral and steel slag. Steel slag in the range of 0-100wt % was added to kaolinite clay. The blended samples were hydraulic pressed into rectangular moulds, oven dried and sintered to1200℃. Linear shrinkage, apparent porosity, water absorption, bulk density, and modulus of rupture of sintered specimens were examined. Phases present in the sintered products were identified using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), while the microstructural examination was conducted using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The elements present in the sintered products were identified using Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX). Phases like quartz, wol-lastonite, anorthite and enstatite were identified in the sintered products. The SEM revealed crystals embedded in the glassy matrix. EDX studies detected Aluminum (Al), Silicon (Si), Magnesium (Mg) and calcium (ca) as the major metal ions. Results obtained showed that samples containing 20-60wt% steel slag have very good usable ceramic tile properties.

This paper presents a modelling and parameter identification of through-hole type contactless slipring systems for transferring electrical power for wind turbine pitch control. An equivalent circuit model has been developed from the physical structure and dimensions of the contactless slipring using the duality rules, which is very different form traditional transformer. The circuit inductances are determined by the derived expressions from the system reluctances. In particular, the equivalent resistance representing the core loss of the slipring has been determined using phasor diagram of exciting current. FEM (Finite Element Method) models and practical prototypes are developed for testing and verifycations. Both simulation and experimental results have shown that the developed model gives truthful values for numerical calculations in order to obtain the equivalent electric circuit. The effect of fringing flux around the air gap on mutual inductance and the ways of correcting its effects are analysed. The obtained values have shown that the developed models and derived equations are with high accuracy as compared to the FEM simulation and experimental results.

To this day, only two types of solar power plants have been proposed and built: high temperature thermal solar one and photovoltaic one. It is here proposed a new type of solar thermal plant using glass-top flat surface solar collectors, so working at low temperature (i.e., below 100°c). This power plant is aimed at warm countries, i.e., the ones mainly located between -40° and 40° latitude, having available space along their coast. This land based plant, to install on the seashore, is technologically similar to the one used for OTEc (Ocean Thermal Energy conversion). This plant, apart from supplying electricity with a much better thermodynamic efficiency than OTEc plants, has the main advantage of providing desalinated water for drinking and irrigation. This plant is designed to generate electricity (and desalinated water) night and day and all year round, by means of hot water storage, with just a variation of the power delivered depending on the season.

DNA barcoding is a powerful approach for characterizing species of organisms,especially those with almost identical morphological features,thereby helping to to establish phylogenetic relationships and reveal evolutionary histories. In this study,we chose a 648-bp segment of the mitochondrial gene,cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cOI),as a standard barcode region to establish phylogenetic relation-ships among brine shrimp (Artemia) species from major habitats around the world and further focused on the biodiversity of Artemia species in china,especially in the Tibetan Plateau. Samples from five major salt lakes of the Tibetan Plateau located at altitudes over 4,000 m showed clear differences from other Artemia pop-ulations in china. We also observed two consistent amino acid changes,153A/V and 183L/F,in the cOI gene between the high and low altitude species in china. Moreover,indels in the cOI sequence were identified in cyst and adult samples unique to the co Qen population from the Tibetan Plateau,demonstrating the need for additional investigations of the mitochondrial genome among Tibetan Artemia populations.

AIM: To study the efficacy and factors associated with a sustained virological response (SVR) in chronic hepatitis c (cHc) relapsing patients. METHODS: Out of 1228 cHc patients treated with pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) and ribavirin (RBV), 165 (13%) had a relapse. Among these, 62 patients were retreated with PEG-IFN-2a or-2b and RBV. clinical, biological, virological and histological data were collected. Initial doses and treatment modifications were recorded. The efficacy of retreatment and predictive factors for SVR were analyzed. RESULTS: An SVR was achieved in 42% of patients. SVR was higher in young (course was associated with higher SVR rates (53% vs 28%, P = 0.04). Also, a better SVR rate was observed with RBV dose/body weight > 15.2 mg/kg per day (70% vs 35%, P = 0.04). In logistic regression, predictors of a response were age (P = 0.018), genotype (P = 0.048) and initial RBV dose/body weight (P = 0.022). None of the patients without a complete early virological response achieved an SVR (negative predictive value = 100%). cONcLUSION: Retreatment with PEG-IFN/RBV is effective in genotype 2 or 3 relapsers, especially in young patients. A high dose of RBV seems to be important for the retreatment response.
