Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder resulting in an increased blood glucose level and prolonged hyperglycemia,causes long term health *** wound is frequently occurring in diabetes patients due to compromised wound healing *** of wounds in diabetic patients remains a clinical challenge despite many advancements in the field of science and *** evidence indicates that alteration of the biochemical milieu resulting from alteration in inflammatory cytokines and matrix metalloproteinase,decrease in fibroblast and keratinocyte functioning,neuropathy,altered leukocyte functioning,infection,etc.,plays a significant role in impaired wound healing in diabetic *** from the current pharmacotherapy,different other approaches like the use of conventional drugs,antidiabetic medication,antibiotics,debridement,offloading,platelet-rich plasma,growth factor,oxygen therapy,negative pressure wound therapy,low-level laser,extracorporeal shock wave bioengineered substitute can be considered in the management of diabetic ***/therapeutic strategy that induce angiogenesis and collagen synthesis,inhibition of MMPs,reduction of oxidative stress,controlling hyperglycemia,increase growth factors,regulate inflammatory cytokines,cause NO induction,induce fibroblast and keratinocyte proliferation,control microbial infections are considered important in controlling diabetic ***,medicinal plants and/or phytoconstituents also offer a viable alternative in the treatment of diabetic *** focus of the present review is to highlight the molecular and cellular mechanisms,and discuss the drug targets and treatment strategies involved in the diabetic wound.

Design of radiation hard phase-locked loop at 2.5 GHz using SOS-CMOS

A radiation hard phase-locked loop （PLL） is designed at 2.5 GHz using silicon on sapphire complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor process. Radiation hardness is achieved through improving circuit design without sacrificing real estate. Stability is guaranteed by a fully self-bias architecture. The lock time of PLL is minimized by maximizing the loop bandwidth. Frequency tuning range of voltage controlled oscillator is significantly enhanced by a novel load configuration. In addition, multiple bias stages, asynchronous frequency divider, and silicon on sapphire process jointly make the proposed PLL more radiation hard. Layout of this PLL is simulated by Cadence Spectre RF under both single event effect and total induced dose effect. Simulation results demonstrate excellent stability, lock time 〈 600 ns, frequency tuning range [1.57 GHz, 3.46 GHz], and jitter 〈 12 ps. Through comparison with PLLs in literatures, the PLL is especially superior in terms of lock time and frequency tuning range performances.

Effect of arc-current and spray distance on elastic modulus and fracture toughness of plasma-sprayed chromium oxide coatings

In this experimental study, chromium oxide powder was sprayed on a low-carbon steel substrate using the atmospheric plasma spray process. The current and standoff distances(SODs) were varied to study their effect on the fracture toughness of the coatings. Theoretically, as the arc current increases, the melting of the ceramic oxide should increase and this in turn should lead to the formation of a dense coating. However,it was observed that if the arc power is too high and because the particle size of the powder is small(approximately 30 μm), the particles tend to fly away from the plasma core. Similarly, an appropriate SOD should provide the particles with more melting time, thus resulting in a dense coating. On the other hand, a larger SOD leads to the solidification of the molten particles before the droplets can reach the substrate. All these effects may lead to substantial variation in the fracture toughness of the coating. The present paper attempts to correlate the plasma spraying parameters and microstructure of the coating with the fracture toughness and other primary coating properties.

Synthesis of Nanocrystalline FeS_2 with Increased Band Gap for Solar Energy Harvesting

In this paper,we have reported the synthesis of FeS2 of higher band gap energy（2.75 eV） by using capping reagent and its successive application in organic-inorganic based hybrid solar *** route was adopted for preparing iron pyrite（FeS2） nanoparticles with capping reagent *** quality of synthesized FeS2 material was confirmed by X-ray diffraction,field emission scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscopy,Fourier transform infrared,thermogravimetric analyzer,and Raman *** optical band gap energy and electro-chemical band gap energy of the synthesized FeS2 were investigated by UV-vis spectrophotometry and cyclic *** band gap engineered FeS2 has been successfully used in conjunction with conjugated polymer MEHPPV for harvesting solar *** energy conversion efficiency was obtained as 0.064%with a fill-factor of 0.52.

Geochemistry and hydrocarbon source rock potential of shales from the Palaeo-Mesoproterozoic Vindhyan Supergroup, central India

With increase in shale gas exploration, inorganic and organic geochemical investigations of shale have become extremely important. Here, we explore the six argillaceous (shale) intervals (Arangi, Koldaha, Rampur, Bijaygarh, Rewa and Sirbu shale) from Son valley sector, Vindhyan Basin with an aim to understand provenance conditions, palaeoclimate, tectonic setting and hydrocarbon generation potential. Whole rock geochemistry indicates Vindhyan sediments derived from felsic source(s) except for Sirbu shale that indicates additional influx of mafic rocks with differentiated felsic source. A comparative study of Vindhyan shale rare earth elements (REEs) points to Mahakoshals and Chhotanagpur gneissic complex (CGC) as probable sediment provenance for Vindhyan sediments. CIA analysis, after necessary corrections for K-metasomatism, suggests evolution in weathering and palaeoclimate indicating a transformation from moderate weathering conditions with warm and humid climate during lower Vindhyan deposition to intense weathering conditions with hot and humid climate during upper Vindhyan deposition. Trace (La/Y vs. Sc/Cr) and REE analysis indicates passive margin setting for Vindhyan sediments whereas a wide range spanning passive to active continental margin setting is also inferred using (Th-Sc-Zr/10) and (Th–La-Sc) ternary diagrams. However, these tectonic discriminant diagrams lack in explaining rift- or sag-related origin of any intracratonic basin such as the Vindhyan Basin. The total organic carbon (TOC) content in Vindhyan shales ranges from 0.29% to 8.44%. The thermally liberated hydrocarbon (S1) values range from 0.01 to 0.18 mg HC/g rock (milligram hydrocarbon per gram of rock sample), whereas hydrocarbon from cracking of the kerogen (S2) shows values ranging from 0.04 to 0.47 mg HC/g rock. Soil and onsite nutrient conservation potential of aromatic grasses at field scale under a shifting cultivated,degraded catchment in Eastern Ghats,India

Land degradation due to soil erosion is a global problem, especially on cultivated hill slopes. Economically important aromatic grasses can protect degraded hill slopes more effectively than field crops, but little information is available on their performance. This study quantifies runoff, sediment yield,enrichment ratios of soil and nutrients, and sediment-associated organic carbon and nutrients losses under three aromatic grass species: citronella(Cymbopogon nardus), lemon(Cymbopogon flexuosus), and palmarosa(Cymbopogon martini), compared with a traditional field crop, finger millet(Eleusine coracana)grown at three land slopes(4%, 8%, and 12%). It was observed that the degree of slope and type of grass both significantly influenced runoff generation. Runoff and sediment yield(SY) were significantly higher at 12% slope than at 8% and 4% slopes. Relation between rainfall and runoff were significant for all the grass species(p < 0.05). Palmarosa, lemon, and citronella grass reduced the SY by 10, 54, and 60%,respectively, over finger millet. SY was also significantly related to rainfall for all the treatments(p <0.05). The threshold runoff values to produce SY were higher for aromatic grasses compared to finger millet. Enrichment of clay, silt, sand, soil organic carbon(SOC), available nitrogen(N), phosphorus(P) and potassium(K) in the sediment were not significantly different between slopes but differed significantly between aromatic grasses and finger millet. Sediment associated nutrient load varied inversely with SY mainly because of the nutrient dissolution effect of high runoff volume. Annual loss of SOC and nutrients varied from 84.7-156.8 kg ha-1y-1for SOC, 4.38-9.18 kg ha-1y-1for available N, 0.35-0.75 kg ha-1y-1for available P, and 2.22-5.22 kg ha-1y-1for available K, with the lowest values for citronella and highest for finger millet. An unusual cause of dyspnoea complicating right upper abdominal swelling

A middle aged, non-addict male presented with right upper abdominal pain and swelling with respiratory distress. Examination revealed central cyanosis, bipedal pitting edema with prominent epigastric and back veins. Liver was enlarged, tender, spanned 20 cm without any splenomegaly or ascites. Other systems were clinically normal. Laboratory investigations showed polymorphonuclear leucocytosis with slightly deranged liver function. Abdominal ultrasonography showed an abscess in the right lobe of the liver with compressed inferior vena cava （IVC）, middle and left hepatic veins. Arterial blood gas （ABG） documented hypoxia with orthodeoxia and air-contrast echocardiography was suggestive of an intrapulmonary shunt. A diagnosis of hepato-pulmonary syndrome （HPS） was made with near normal liver function secondary to amebic liver abscess. It reversed completely following successful treatment of the liver abscess.

Testing the intraplate origin of mega-earthquakes at subduction margins

The disastrous Mw 9.3 （seismic moment 1.0 × 10^30 dyn/cm） earthquake that struck northwest Sumatra on 26 December 2004 and triggered -30 m high tsunami has rejuvenated the quest for identi- fying the forcing behind subduction related earthquakes around the world. Studies reveal that the stron- gest part （elastic core） of the oceanic lithosphere lie between 20 and 60 km depth beneath the upper （- 7 km thick） crustal layer, and compressive stress of GPa order is required to fail the rock-layers within the core zone. Here we present evidences in favor of an intraplate origin of mega-earthquakes right within the strong core part （at the interface of semi-brittle and brittle zone）, and propose an alternate model exploring the flexing zone of the descending lithosphere as the nodal area for major stress accumulation. We believe that at high confining pressure and elevated temperature, unidirectional cyclic compressive stress loading in the flexing zone results in an increase of material yield strength through strain hardening, which transforms the rheology of the layer from semi-brittle to near-brittle state. The increased compres- sive stress field coupled with upward migration of the neutral surface （of zero stress fields） under non- coaxial deformation triggers shear crack. The growth of the shear crack is initially confined in the near-brittle domain, and propagates later through the more brittle crustal part of the descending oceanic lithosphere in the form of cataclastic failure,

Tandem hidden Markov models using deep belief networks for offline handwriting recognition

Unconstrained offiine handwriting recognition is a challenging task in the areas of document analysis and pattern recognition. In recent years, to sufficiently exploit the supervisory information hidden in document images, much effort has been made to integrate multi-layer perceptrons （MLPs） in either a hybrid or a tandem fashion into hidden Markov models （HMMs）. However, due to the weak learnability of MLPs, the learnt features are not necessarily optimal for subsequent recognition tasks. In this paper, we propose a deep architecture-based tandem approach for unconstrained offiine handwriting recognition. In the proposed model, deep belief networks arc adopted to learn the compact representations of sequential data, while HMMs are applied for （sub-）word recognition. We evaluate the proposed model on two publicly available datasets, i.e., RIMES and IFN/ENIT, which are based on Latin and Arabic languages respectively, and one dataset collected by ourselves called Devanagari （all Indian script）. Extensive experiments show the advantage of the proposed model, especially over the MLP-HMMs taudem approaches.
