An approach towards estimating critical value of waiting time at transit stops

Waiting time at transit stops is found to be an influential policy variable for a passenger’s decision on whether to undertake a given transit service. With regard to policy framework for improvement of operational service headway of a transit service and thereby its waiting time, the necessity to have knowledge on its critical value becomes inevitable. The critical value of waiting time for passengers waiting at transit stops is that duration beyond which passengers are found to be no more interested to wait for a that transit service. The paper demonstrates an approach for estimating the critical value of waiting time at urban transit stops with reference to public transport services such as city bus and shared-auto operational in Bhubaneswar, India. The critical value of waiting time is estimated from the point on cumulative distribution curve of waiting time frequency distribution, at which the maximum rate of change of the slope of curve occurs. The work assumes two positively skewed distributions such as gamma and log-normal for observed distributional pattern of waiting time. The work identifies that gamma distribution is comparatively fitting the observed data better than log-normal distribution. The study reveals that the critical value of waiting time for city bus passengers is about twice than that of shared auto ***, the study presents new information on critical values of waiting time with reference to an urban area of a developing country, it also demonstrates an experience on application of probability distribution functions for understanding distributional pattern of waiting time.

Unexpected thermal conductivity enhancement in aperiodic superlattices discovered using active machine learning

Parametric computational study on butterfly-shaped hysteretic dampers

A parametric computational study is conducted to investigate the shear yielding, flexural yielding, and lateral torsional buckling limit states for butterfly-shaped links. After validating the accuracy of the finite element modeling approach against previous experiments, 112 computational models with different geometrical properties were constructed and analyzed including consideration of initial imperfections. The resulting yielding moment, corresponding critical shear force, the accumulation of plastic strains through the length of links as well as the amount of energy dissipated are investigated. The results indicate that as the shape of the butterfly-shaped links become too straight or conversely too narrow in the middle, peak accumulated plastic strains increase. The significant effect of plate thickness on the buckling limit state is examined in this study. Results show that overstrength for these links (peak force divided by yield force) is between 1.2 and 4.5, with straight links producing larger overstrength. Additionally, proportioning the links to delay buckling, and designing the links to yield in the flexural mode are shown to improve energy dissipation.

Segregation characteristics of irregular binaries in gas solid fluidized beds——An ANN-approach

Binary mixtures of irregular materials of different particle sizes and/or particle densities are fluidized in a 15-cm diameter column with a perforated plate distributor. An attempt has been made in this work to determine the segregation characteristics of jetsam particles for both the homogeneous and heterogeneous binary mixtures in terms of segregation distance by correlating it to the various system parameters, viz. initial static bed height, height of a layer of particles above the bottom grid, superficial gas velocity and average particle size and/or particle densities of the mixture through the dimensional analysis. Correlation on the basis of Artificial Neural Network approach has also been developed with the above system parameters thereby authenticating the development of correlation by the former approach. The calculated values of the segregation distance obtained for both the homogeneous and heterogeneous binary mixtures from both the types of ftuidized beds （i.e. under the static bed condition and the ftuidized bed condition） have also been compared with each other.

Effect of sintering temperature on the chemical bonding,electronic structure and electrical transport properties of β-Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds

A model system,which is based on iron(Fe)doped gallium oxide(Ga_(2)O_(3))(Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3)),has been considered to elucidate the combined effect of transition-metal ion doping and processing temperature on the chemistry,local structure and chemical bonding,and electrical transport properties of a wide band gap oxide(Ga_(2)O_(3)).The Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds were synthesized using standard high-temperature solid state reaction *** effect of processing conditions in terms of different calcination and sintering environments on the structural and electrical properties of Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds is studied in *** characterization by Raman spectroscopy revealed that Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds exhibit monoclinic crystal symmetry,which is quite similar to the intrinsic parental crystal structure,though Fedoping induces lattice *** temperature(T_(sint))which was varied in the range of 900-1200℃,has significant impact on the structure,chemical bonding,and electrical properties of Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) *** spectroscopic measurements indicate the proper densification of the Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds achieved through complete Fe diffusion into the parent Ga_(2)O_(3) lattice which is evident at the highest sintering *** X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy validates the chemical states of the constituent elements in Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) *** electrical properties of Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) fully controlled by T_(sint),which governed the grain size and microstructural *** temperature and frequency dependent electrical measurements demonstrated the salient features of the Fe doped Ga_(2)O_(3) *** activation energy determined from Arrhenius equation is 0.5 e *** results demonstrate that control over structure,morphology,chemistry and electrical properties of the Ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds can be achieved by optimizing T_(sint).

Paradoxical role of Id proteins in regulating tumorigenic potential of lymphoid cells

A family of transcription factors known as Id proteins, or inhibitor of DNA binding and differentiation, is capable of regulating cell proliferation, survival and differentiation, and is often upregulated in multiple types of tumors. Due to their ability to promote self-renewal, Id proteins have been considered as oncogenes, and potential therapeutic targets in cancer models. On the contrary, certain Id proteins are reported to act as tumor suppressors in the development of Burkitt＇s lymphoma in humans, and hepatosplenic and innate-like T cell lymphomas in mice. The contexts and mechanisms by which Id proteins can serve in such contradictory roles to determine tumor outcomes are still not well understood. In this review, we explore the roles of Id proteins in lymphocyte development and tumorigenesis, particularly with respect to inhibition of their canonical DNA binding partners known as E proteins. Transcriptional regulation by E proteins, and their antagonism by Id proteins, act as gatekeepers to ensure appropriate lymphocyte development at key checkpoints. We re-examine the derailment of these regulatory mechanisms in lymphocytes that facilitate tumor development. These mechanistic insights can allow better appreciation of the context-dependent roles of Id proteins in cancers and improve considerations for therapy.

Entropy of Quantum Dynamical Systems and Sufficient Families in Orthomodular Lattices with Bayessian State

The purpose of the present paper is to study the entropy hs（Ф） of a quantum dynamical systems Ф = （ L, s, Ф）, where s is a bayessian state on an orthomodular lattice L. Having introduced the notion of entropy hs（ Ф, A） of partition A of a Boolean algebra B with respect to a state s and a state preserving homomorphism Ф, we prove a few results on that, define the entropy of a dynamical system hs（Ф）, and show its invariance. The concept of sufficient families is also given and we establish that hs （Ф） comes out to be equal to the supremum of hs （Ф,A）, where A varies over any sufficient family. The present theory has then been extended to the quantum dynamical system （ L, s, Ф）, which as an effect of the theory of commutators and Bell inequalities can equivalently be replaced by the dynamical system （B, s0, Ф）, where B is a Boolean algebra and so is a state on B.

Changes in electrical conductivity of liquid foods during ohmic heating

Ohmic heating is a food processing method in which alternating current(AC)went through a food sample and resulted in internal energy generation in *** is an alternative fast heating *** principal advantage is the ability to rapidly and uniformly heat food materials of various *** ohmic heating,change in electrical conductivity was *** intensity of food materials’electrical conductivity or overall resistance critically controls ohmic heating *** ohmic heating set-up was prepared under this *** juice was heated(about 32℃ to 80℃)in a batch type ohmic heater at different voltage gradients in the range of 50-70 V/*** was statistically found that the voltage gradient had significant impact on conductivity and system performance coefficient(SPC)(P<0.05).It was concluded that the electrical conductivity values linearly increased with *** SPCs of the system ranged between 0.779 and *** value of R2 of the linear model was greater than 0.98.

Awareness,practice and views about integrating AYUSH in allopathic curriculum of allopathic doctors and interns in a tertiary care teaching hospital in New Delhi,India

Objective： To assess the knowledge, attitude, perception and practice of Ayurveda, yoga, Unani, Siddha, homeopathy and naturopathy （AYUSH） among allopathic doctors and interns and determine their opin- ion regarding integration of AYUSH education within the allopathic curriculum. Methods： This prospective, cross sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care teaching Hospital, New Delhi, India, from March 2016 to March 2017. A survey of 500 aUopathic doctors and 150 interns was performed using a structured questionnaire. Results： A majority of doctors （95.2%） were aware of the term AYUSH and had knowledge of yoga （70.6%）, homeopathy （55.6%）, Ayurveda （50.3%）, Siddha （47.8%）, naturopathy （32.9%） and Unani （28.9%）. Most of the participants （63.0%） felt that therapies under AYUSH are effective. A majority （84.0%） of the doctors were of the view that more research is required in the field of AYUSH. While homeopathy （44.0%） was the most common system used by doctors for themselves, yoga was the therapy most commonly （60.0%） recommended to patients. Nearly half of the doctors （46.7%） recommended AYUSH to their patients, mainly for chronic illness （74.0%）. A majority （77.5%） of the respondents agreed that students of allopathic med- icine should be familiarized with AYUSH. The modes of incorporation of AYUSH into the medical curriculum most commonly suggested by respondents were optional courses （54.5%） and introductory lectures （42.3%）. Conclusion： Doctors and interns ofallopathic medicine are aware of AYUSH systems. They use it for them- selves and recommend it to patients. They believe that familiarization of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery students with AYUSH therapies and their integration with allopathic medicine may help in improving patient care.

This paper studies a time-variant multi-objective linear fractional transportation problem. In reality, transported goods should reach in destinations within a specific time. Considering the importance of time, a time-variant multi-objective linear fractional transportation problem is formulated here. We take into account the parameters as cost, supply and demand are interval valued that involved in the proposed model, so we treat the model as a multi-objective linear fractional interval transportation problem. To solve the formulated model, we first convert it into a deterministic form using a new transformation technique and then apply fuzzy programming to solve it. The applicability of our proposed method is shown by considering two numerical examples. At last, conclusions and future research directions regarding our study is included.
