Seismic performance evaluation of hybrid coupled shear wall system with shear and flexural fuse-type steel coupling beams

Replaceable flexural and shear fuse-type coupling beams are used in hybrid coupled shear wall(HCSW)systems,enabling concrete buildings to be promptly recovered after severe *** study aimed to analytically evaluate the seismic behavior of flexural and shear fuse beams situated in short-,medium-and high-rise RC buildings that have *** building groups hypothetically located in a high seismic hazard zone were studied.A series of 2D nonlinear time history analyses was accomplished in OpenSees,using the ground motion records scaled at the design basis earthquake *** was found that the effectiveness of fuses in HCSWs depends on various factors such as size and scale of the building,allowable rotation value,inter-story drift ratio,residual drift quantity,energy dissipation value of the fuses,*** results show that shear fuses better meet the requirements of rotations and *** contrast,flexural fuses dissipate more energy,but their sectional stiffness should increase to meet other *** was concluded that adoption of proper fuses depends on the overall scale of the building and on how associated factors are considered.

Modified imperialist competitive algorithm-based neural network to determine shear strength of concrete beams reinforced with FRP

Fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs), unlike steel, are corrosion-resistant and therefore are of interest;however, their use is hindered because their brittle shear is formulated in most specifications using limited data available at the time. We aimed to predict the shear strength of concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars and without stirrups by compiling a relatively large database of 198 previously published test results (available in appendix). To model shear strength, an artificial neural network was trained by an ensemble of Levenberg-Marquardt and imperialist competitive algorithms. The results suggested superior accuracy of model compared to equations available in specifications and literature.

Assessment of the Seismic Behavior of the Reinforced Concrete Structures Based on the Probabilities

This paper presents an analytical foundation for probability-based formats for seismic design and assessment of structures. These formats are designed to be suitable for code and guideline implementation. The framework rests on non-linear, static seismic analysis. The formats can be used to ensure that the structural seismic design can be expected to satisfy specified probabilistic performance objectives, and perhaps （more novel） that it does so with a desired, guaranteed degree of confidence. Performance objectives are presumed to be expressed as the annual probability of exceeding a structural performance level. Structural performance levels are in turn defined as specified structural parameters （e.g., ductility, strength, maximum drift ratio, etc.） reaching a structural limit state （e.g. onset of yield, collapse, etc.）. The degree of confidence in meeting the specified performance objective may be quantified through the upper confidence bound on the （uncertain） probability. In order to make such statements, aleatory （random） uncertainty and epistemic （knowledge limited） uncertainty must be distinguished. The single seismic design foundation can be formatted into the alternative conventional design methods such as LRFD design and fragility-hazard design. Versions of the new developments reported here are already in place in recently completed seismic guidelines.
