Background Previous studies havedemonstrated that excitatory repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS)can improve the cognitive function of patients with Alzheimer's disease(AD).Intermittent theta burst stimulation(iTBS)is a novel excitatory rTMS protocol for brain activity stimulation with the ability to induce long-term potentiation-like plasticity and represents a promising treatment for AD.However,the long-term effects of iTBS on cognitive decline and brain structure in patients with AD areunknown.Aims We aimed to explore whether repeating accelerated iTBS every three months could slow down the cognitive decline in patients with AD.Methods In this randomised,assessor-blinded,controlled trial,iTBS was administered to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(DLPFC)of 42 patients with AD for 14days every 13weeks.Measurements included the Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA),a comprehensive neuropsychological battery,and the grey matter volume(GMV)of the hippocampus.Patients were evaluated at baseline and after follow-up.The longitudinal pipeline of the Computational Anatomy Toolbox for SPM was used to detect significant treatment-related changes over time.Results The iTBS group maintained MoCA scores relative to the control group(t=3.26,p=0.013)and reduced hippocampal atrophy,which was significantly correlated with global degeneration scale changes.The baseline Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE)score,apolipoprotein E genotype and Clinical Dementia Rating were indicative of MoCA scores at follow-up.Moreover,the GMV of the left(t=0.08,p=0.996)and right(t=0.19,p=0.977)hippocampus were maintained in the active group but significantly declined in the control group(left:t=4.13,p<0.001;right:t=5.31,p<0.001).GMV change in the left(r=0.35,p=0.023)and right(r=0.36,p=0.021)hippocampus across the intervention positively correlated with MoCA changes;left hippocampal GMV change was negatively correlated with global degeneration scale(r=-0.32,p=0.041)changes.Conclusions DLPFC-iTBS maybe a feasible and easy-to-implement

Semi-Varying Coefficient panel Data Model with Technical Indicators Predicts Stock Returns in Financial Market

Accurately predicting stock returns is a conundrum in financial market. Solving this conundrum can bring huge economic benefits for investors and also attract the attention of all circles of people. In this paper the authors combine semi-varying coefficient model with technical analysis and statistical learning, and propose semi-varying coefficient panel data model with individual effects to explore the dynamic relations between the stock returns from five companies: CVX, DFS, EMN, LYB,and MET and five technical indicators: CCI, EMV, MOM, ln ATR, ln RSI as well as closing price(ln CP), combine semi-parametric fixed effects estimator, semi-parametric random effects estimator with the testing procedure to distinguish fixed effects(FE) from random effects(RE), and finally apply the estimated dynamic relations and the testing set to predict stock returns in December 2020 for the five companies. The proposed method can accommodate the varying relationship and the interactive relationship between the different technical indicators, and further enhance the prediction accuracy to stock returns.

Micro-mechanism Study on the Different Antioxidants Protective Effect of Vegetable Oil by ReaxFF Molecular Dynamics

The aging problem of vegetable oil has severely restricted the popularization and application of vegetable oil transformers.Adding antioxidants is the most recommended solution.At present,there is insufficient research on the micromechanism application of the protective effect of antioxidants on vegetable oil.In this paper,multiple vegetable oil models with different types and concentrations of antioxidants are established.Then the molecular dynamics simulation based on ReaxFF is carried out at different temperatures and oxygen content.Results show that the protective mechanism of antioxidants is to release H and combine this with free radicals generated by the decomposition of unsaturated fatty acids(UFA)in the oil.In addition,the protective effects of four antioxidants show different results.The stronger ones are tert-butyl hydroquinone(TBHQ)and butylated hydroxytoluene(BHT),while the weaker ones are butylated hydroxyanisole(BHA)and propyl gallate(PG).TBHQ has a better protective effect at lower concentrations,but the decomposition of UFA is promoted at higher concentrations.When the temperature rises,the decomposition of UFA is promoted.With the addition of oxygen,smaller molecular compounds are easily oxidized,and the decomposition of UFA is accelerated.The above research could reveal the microscopic mechanism of antioxidant protection on vegetable oil,providing theoretical references for further exploration of effective vegetable oil aging protection technology.

Multi-Objective Equilibrium Optimizer for Feature Selection in High-Dimensional English Speech Emotion Recognition

Speech emotion recognition(SER)uses acoustic analysis to find features for emotion recognition and examines variations in voice that are caused by emotions.The number of features acquired with acoustic analysis is extremely high,so we introduce a hybrid filter-wrapper feature selection algorithm based on an improved equilibrium optimizer for constructing an emotion recognition system.The proposed algorithm implements multi-objective emotion recognition with the minimum number of selected features and maximum accuracy.First,we use the information gain and Fisher Score to sort the features extracted from signals.Then,we employ a multi-objective ranking method to evaluate these features and assign different importance to them.Features with high rankings have a large probability of being selected.Finally,we propose a repair strategy to address the problem of duplicate solutions in multi-objective feature selection,which can improve the diversity of solutions and avoid falling into local traps.Using random forest and K-nearest neighbor classifiers,four English speech emotion datasets are employed to test the proposed algorithm(MBEO)as well as other multi-objective emotion identification techniques.The results illustrate that it performs well in inverted generational distance,hypervolume,Pareto solutions,and execution time,and MBEO is appropriate for high-dimensional English SER.

Pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the vagina: A case report

BACKGROUND Rhabdomyosarcoma(RMS)of the vagina in postmenopausal women is an extre-mely rare malignant tumor that was originally described as a unique group of soft tissue sarcomas originating from primitive mesenchymal cells.It was first re-ported in postmenopausal women in 1970,and fewer than 50 postmenopausal patients have been reported to date.CASE SUMMARY A 68-year-old multiparous female was admitted to the hospital on October 11,2023,with the chief complaint of a mass causing vaginal prolapse with incomplete urination that had persisted for 4 months.The vaginal mass was approximately the size of a pigeon egg;after lying down,the vaginal mass retracted.Complete resection was performed,and vaginal pleomorphic RMS was diagnosed based on pathology and immunohistochemical staining features.The patient is currently undergoing chemotherapy.The present study also reviewed the clinical,histolo-gical,and immunohistochemical features and latest treatment recommendations for vaginal RMS.Any abnormal vaginal mass should be promptly investigated through pelvic examination and appropriate imaging.The current initial treat-ment for vaginal RMS is biopsy and primary chemotherapy.CONCLUSION When surgery is planned for vaginal RMS,an organ-preserving approach should be considered.

Effects of Acupotomy on Immobilization-Induced Gastrocnemius Contracture and Fibrosis in Rats via Wnt/β-Catenin Signaling

Objective: To determine whether acupotomy ameliorates immobilization-induced muscle contracture and fibrosis via Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Methods: Thirty Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups(n=6) by a random number table, including control, immobilization, passive stretching, acupotomy, and acupotomy 3 weeks(3-w) groups. The rat model of gastrocnemius contracture was established by immobilizing the right hind limb in plantar flexion for 4 weeks. Rats in the passive stretching group received passive stretching at gastrocnemius, a daily series of 10 repetitions for 30 s each at 30-s intervals for 10 consecutive days. Rats in the acupotomy and acupotomy 3-w groups received acupotomy once and combined with passive stretching at gastrocnemius a daily series of 10 repetitions for 30 s each at 30-s intervals for 10 consecutive days. Additionally, rats in the acupotomy 3-w group were allowed to walk freely for 3 weeks after 10-day therapy. After treatment, range of motion(ROM), gait analysis [i.e., paw area, stance/swing and maximum ratio of paw area to paw area duration(Max dA/dT)], gastrocnemius wet weight and the ratio of muscle wet weight to body weight(MWW/BW) were tested. Gastrocnemius morphometric and muscle fiber cross-sectional area(CSA) were assessed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. Fibrosis-related mRNA expressions(i.e., Wnt 1, β-catenin, axin-2, α-smooth muscle actin, fibronectin, and types Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen) were measured using real-time quantitative polymerase chain reactions. Wnt 1, β-catenin and fibronectin concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Types Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen in the perimysium and endomysium were analyzed using immunofluorescence. Results: Compared with the control group, ROM, gait function, muscle weight, MWW/BW and CSA were significantly decreased in the immobilization group(all P <0.01), while protein levels of types Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen, Wnt 1, β-catenin, fibronectin and mRNA levels of fibrosis-related genes were obviously increased(all P<0.01). Synergistic precipitant powered self-assembly of papain for cross-linked enzyme crystals preparation

In this study,we prepared cross-linked enzyme crystals(CLECs)of papain to further broaden the application of the enzyme with high activity in extreme environments.Initially,papain crystals were successfully obtained based on the micro-batch,batch,and expanded batch crystallization experiments.Specifically,ammonium sulfate and polyethylene glycol 6000(PEG6000)were synergistically used as the precipitants,while L-cysteine was applied to enhance the activity of papain.Furthermore,the interaction between L-cysteine and papain was modeled by molecular docking technique.It was found that L-cysteine could form a hydrogen bond with aspartic acid residue(Asp)at site 158,and the electrostatic attraction with lysine residue(Lys)at site 156 was also quite obvious.Then the enzyme crystals were cross-linked by glutaraldehyde at optimized conditions.The papain CLECs were identified by various methods,and it was found that the thermal stability and enzymatic activity both increased compared to the raw enzyme.More importantly,it could be applied at more rigorous conditions,for example,pH of 4.

Uncovering of the formation of rare earth texture and pseudo fiber bimodal microstructure in the high ductility Mg-2Gd-0.4Zr alloy during extrusion

The aim of this research was to elucidate the underlying mechanism involved in the formation of rare earth(RE)texture and pseudo fiber bimodal microstructure in the high ductility Mg-2Gd-0.4Zr alloy.The microstructure and texture evolution during the extrusion process were analyzed using various tech-niques,including optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD),and electron probe microanalysis(EPMA).The findings revealed that the RE texture in the extruded Mg-2Gd-0.4Zr alloy emerged during the dynamic recrystallization(DRX)process and was further strengthened during the subsequent static recrystallization and grain growth processes.The nu-cleation and growth of grains in the streamline region of Zr particles were delayed in comparison to other regions due to the pinning effect of Zr particles,ultimately resulting in the formation of pseudofiber bi-modal microstructure in the extruded Mg-2Gd-0.4Zr alloy.

Dear Editor,Protein histidine methylation has been found to be a widespread post-translational modification(PTM)in mammalian cells and represents more than 13%of all protein methylation events in the human methylome(Ning et al.,2016;Kapell and Jakobsson,2021).Recently,we and other groups independently identified METTL9 as the first broad-specificity histidine N1 methyltransferase in mammals(Davydova et al.,2021;Lv et al.,2021).METTL9 methylates a variety of substrates with a common x-His-x-His motif(His is for histidine;the second x is preferably small amino acids:A/C/G/S)and catalyzes methyl transfer to the last histidine.

Impact of continuous care on cardiac function in patients with lung cancer complicated by coronary heart disease

BACKGROUND Despite sharing similar pathogenic factors,cancer and coronary heart disease(CHD)occur in comparable populations at similar ages and possess similar susceptibility factors.Consequently,it is increasingly commonplace for patients to experience the simultaneous occurrence of cancer and CHD,a trend that is steadily rising.AIM To determine the impacts of continuing care on lung cancer patients with CHD following percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI).METHODS There were 94 lung cancer patients with CHD following PCI who were randomly assigned to the intervention group(n=38)and the control group(n=41).In the intervention group,continuing care was provided,while in the control group,routine care was provided.An evaluation of cardiac and pulmonary function,medication compliance,a 6-min walk test,and patient quality of life was performed.RESULTS Differences between the two groups were significant in left ventricular ejection fraction,6-min walk test,oxygen uptake,quality of life and medication compliance(P<0.05).In comparison with the control group,the enhancement in the intervention group was more significant.The intervention group had more patients with high medication compliance than the control group,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).CONCLUSION After undergoing PCI,lung patients with CHD could benefit from continued care in terms of cardiac and pulmonary function,medications compliance,and quality of life.
