The fruit of Manilk.ra hexandra(Roxb.)Dubard is one of the most underutilized fruits of India and in Gujarat *** is popularly k.own as‘Rayan’.The fruit and seed of Rayan were analysed for their total phenolic and flavonoid content,phenolic compounds and total antioxidant capacity with six different assay *** results indicated that the methanolic extract of Rayan fruit being a good source of phenolic(811.3 mg GAE/100 g fw)and flavonoid(485.56 mg RE/100 g fw)***,eleven k.own phenolic compounds were tentatively identified for the first time from the fruit and seed of *** LC–MS/MS analysis of fruit revealed the presence of major phenolic compounds such as gallic acid,quercetin and k.empferol,while quercetin,gallic acid and vanillic acid in *** presence of quercetin suggests health *** fruit of Rayan was also proved to be a better source of antioxidants as measured by FRAP,RPA,DPPHRSA,ABTSRSA and HRSA except NORSA in comparison with that of *** current study explains that *** is a relatively good source of antioxidants such as phenols and flavonoids for diet.

The cotton fiber reinforced polyester composites were fabricated with varying amount of graphite fillers (0,3,5 wt.％) with a hand lay-up *** tests were planned by using a response surface (Box Behnk.n method) design of experiments and conducted on a pin-on-disc machine (POD) test *** effect of the weight percentage of graphite content on the dry sliding wear behavior of cotton fiber polyester composite (CFPC) was examined by considering the effect of operating parameters lik. load,speed,and sliding *** wear test results showed the inclusion of 5 wt.％ of graphite as fillers in CFPC increase wear resistance compared to 3 wt.％ of graphite *** graphite fillers were recommended for CFPC to increase the wear resistance of the material.A scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to study the wear *** predict the wear behavior of the composite material,comparisons were made between the general regression technique and an artificial neural network.(ANN).The conformation test results revealed the predicted wear with the ANN was acceptable when compared with the actual experimental results and the regression mathematical models.

Machining of shape memory alloys(SMAs)without losing the shape memory effect could immensely extend their ***,the wire electric discharge machining process was used to machine NiTi—a shape memory *** experimental methodology was designed using a Box-Behnk.n design approach of the response surface *** effects of input variables including pulse on time,pulse off time,and current were investigated on the material removal rate,surface roughness,and *** tests were performed to check.the robustness of the generated empirical *** of the process parameters was performed using a newly formulated,highly efficient heat transfer search *** tests were conducted and extended for analyzing the retention of the shape memory effect of the machined surface by differential scanning *** addition,2D and 3D Pareto curves were generated that indicated the trade-offs between the selected output variables during the simultaneous output variables using the multi-objective heat transfer search *** optimization route yielded encouraging *** objective optimization yielded a maximum material removal rate of 1.49 mm^(3)/s,maximum microhardness 462.52 HVN,and minimum surface roughness 0.11μ*** Pareto curves showed conflicting effects during the wire electric discharge machining of the shape memory alloy and presented a set of optimal non-dominant *** shape memory alloy machined using the optimized process parameters even indicated a shape memory effect similar to that of the starting base material.

Is myopia a protective factor against central serous chorioretinopathy?

AIM： To evaluate if any association exists between central serous chorioretinopathy （CSCR） and the refractive status of the eye. METHODS： This retrospective, institutional, case control study included 499 patients, wherein 262 patients diagnosed as acute CSCR, were compared with an age and gender matched control group of 237 patients. All patients were evaluated with a detailed systemic and ocular history, objective and subjective refractions for both eyes and complete ocular examination by a retina specialist, at all visits. Optical coherence tomography confirmed the diagnosis of CSCR. ~ RESULTS： The mean age was found to be 40.7y in the study group （Group 1） compared to 38 10y in the control group （Group 2）. Most common refractive status in the study group, was emmetropia seen in 191 patients （72.9%）, followed by hypermetropia seen in 47 patients （17.9%） and astigmatism seen in 21 patients （8.0%）. Only 3 subjects （1.1%） had myopia, which was less than or equal to 1.0 D, compared to 70 subjects （29.5%） in the control group, suggesting a statistically significant lower incidence of CSCR among the myopic patients （P〈 0.0001）. With respect to the systemic factors, 26 （9.9%） patients were using systemic steroids in the study group （Group 1） compared to none in the control group （Group 2） suggesting a statistically significant association of CSCR with systemic steroid use （P〈0.05）. No other significant systemic risk.factors were noted. CONCLUSION： Though CSCR is a multifactorial disease, myopia serves as a protective factor for CSCR. Thus, myopic eyes are less lik.ly to develop CSCR. Since both retinal pigment epithelium （RPE） and choriocapillaris are postulated in the pathogenesis of CSCR, chorio-retinal thinning and atrophy seen in myopic eyes are less lik.ly to cause CSCR.

Esophageal diverticula are rare findings that have an estimated incidence of 1 per 500000 people per year,even though acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding is a relatively common medical emergency with an incidence of up to 150 per 100000 people per year and a mortality rate of 7-14%.An 83-year-old man presented with hematemesis and *** upper endoscopy revealed an esophageal diverticulum,within which was an adherent *** of the clot identified a bleeding vessel within the diverticulum;this was successfully clipped and hemostasis was *** the best of our k.owledge,this is the first case report of a bleeding epiphrenic esophageal diverticulum that was successfully managed endoscopically with hemostatic clips *** rare,our case serves as a reminder that bleeding epiphrenic esophageal diverticula can present as massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding and urgent endoscopic therapy can be life-saving.

Intermittent androgen deprivation therapy （IADT） is an alternative to continuous androgen deprivation therapy （ADT） in prostate cancer patients with nonmetastatic disease. ADT is associated with numerous side effects such as hot flashes, sexual dysfunction, anemia, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome and premature cardiovascular disease. IADT was developed with the intention of improving the quality of life and to delay progression of prostate cancer to castration resistance. The benefits of slightly improved quality of life by IADT compared to ADT were demonstrated in multiple clinical trials. IADT was noted to be noninferior to ADT in patients with biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer but in studies performed in patients with metastatic prostate cancer, the results were inconclusive. Our recent studies suggested that the administration of 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors during the off-cycle of IADT can significantly prolong the survival of mice bearing androgen-sensitive prostate tumors when off-cycle duration was short. This review discusses the survival benefit of 5 alpha-reductase inhibition in IADT in animal models and the potential translation of this finding into clinic.

Cr-free bi-metallic SBA-15-supported Co–Cu catalysts were examined in the conversion of biomass-derived α-, β-unsaturated aldehyde(furfural) to value-added chemical furfuryl alcohol(FOL).Co–Cu/SBA-15 catalysts with a fixed Cu loading of 10 wt% and varying Co loadings(2.5, 5, and 10 wt%) were prepared by the impregnation method. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, N2 sorption, H2 temperature-programmed reduction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, CO chemisorption, and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The influence of different reaction parameters such as temperature, pressure, catalyst dosage, and furfural concentration on the catalyst performance was evaluated. Relative to catalysts supported on amorphous silica, the current SBA-15-supported Co–Cu catalysts displayed higher performance, attaining a furfural conversion of 99% and furfuryl alcohol selectivity of 80%. The catalytic reactions were conducted in a 100-mL autoclave at 170 °C and 2 MPa H2 pressure for 4 h.

Intermittent gastric outlet obstruction caused by a prolapsing antral gastric polyp

Most gastric polyps have an asymptomatic presentation and are an incidental finding on upper endoscopy. Symptomatic presentations can range from an ulcerated polyp leading to anemia and occult bleed to complete gastric outlet obstruction. We report a case of an 89-year-old woman who presented with postprandial nausea and early satiety. Her upper endoscopy revealed a 2 cm pedunculated hyperplastic polyp arising from the antrum of the stomach which was seen prolapsing into the pylorus causing intermittent gastric outlet obstruction. In the present report, we statistically analyzed 39 prolapsing gastric polyps previously reported in the English literature and demonstrate the current utility of monopolar snare polypectomy in establishing a histological diagnosis while offering simultaneous treatment. Additionally, we review the literature for the management of all hyperplastic gastric polyps in relation to advancements in digestive endoscopy.
