Estrogen produces several beneficial effects in healthy neurological tissues and exhibits cardioprotective *** therapy has been widely used to treat menopausal estrogen deficiency for more than 80 *** high initial expectations of cardioprotective effects,there has been substantial distrust following important randomized clinical trials,such as the Women’s Health ***,the timing of treatment in relation to the onset of menopause came under consideration and led to the proposal of the timing hypothesis,that early initial treatment is important,and benefits are lost as the timing since menopause becomes *** analyses of the Women’s Health Initiative data,together with more recent data from randomized and observational trials,consistently show reductions in coronary heart disease and mortality in younger menopausal *** cognitive function,the timing hypothesis is consistent with observations from basic and animal *** is some clinical evidence to support the benefits of hormonal therapy in this context,though skepticism remains due to the paucity of clinical trials of substantial length in younger menopausal *** is likely that the effects of estrogens on cognitive performance are due to rapid mechanisms,including mechanisms that influence Ca2+homeostasis dynamics,provide protection in a hostile environment and reduce inflammatory signals from neural *** the future,inflammatory profiles accounting for early signs of pathological inflammation might help identify the‘window of opportunity’to use estrogen therapy for successful cognitive protection.

Background The nationally determined contribution（NDC） presented by Argentina within the framework of the Paris Agreement is aligned with the decisions made in the context of the United Nations Framework Conven-tion on Climate Change（UNFCCC） on the reduction of emissions derived from deforestation and forest degradation, as well as forest carbon conservation（REDD+）. In addition, climate change constitutes one of the greatest threats to forest biodiversity and ecosystem services. However, the soil organic carbon（SOC） stocks of native forests have not been incorporated into the Forest Reference Emission Levels calculations and for conservation planning under cli-mate variability due to a lack of information. The objectives of this study were:（i） to model SOC stocks to 30 cm of native forests at a national scale using climatic, topographic and vegetation as predictor variables, and（ii） to relate SOC stocks with spatial–temporal remotely sensed indices to determine biodiversity conservation concerns due to threats from high inter-annual climate *** We used 1040 forest soil samples（0–30 cm） to generate spatially explicit estimates of SOC native forests in Argentina at a spatial resolution of approximately 200 m. We selected 52 potential predictive environmental covari-ates, which represent key factors for the spatial distribution of SOC. All covariate maps were uploaded to the Google Earth Engine cloud-based computing platform for subsequent modelling. To determine the biodiversity threats from high inter-annual climate variability, we employed the spatial–temporal satellite-derived indices based on Enhanced Vegetation Index（EVI） and land surface temperature（LST） images from Landsat *** SOC model（0–30 cm depth） prediction accounted for 69% of the variation of this soil property across the whole native forest coverage in Argentina. Predicting the clothing insulation through machine learning algorithms:A comparative analysis and a practical approach

Since indoor clothing insulation is a key element in thermal comfort models,the aim of the present study is proposing an approach for predicting it,which could assist the occupants of a building in terms of recommendations regarding their *** that,a systematic analysis of input variables is exposed,and 13 regression and 12 classification machine learning algorithms were developed and *** results are based on data from 3352 questionnaires and 21 input variables from a field study in mixed-mode office buildings in *** temperature at 6 a.m.,indoor air temperature,indoor relative humidity,comfort temperature and gender were the most relevant features for predicting clothing *** comparing machine learning algorithms,decision tree-based algorithms with Boosting techniques achieved the best *** proposed model provides an efficient method for forecasting the clothing insulation level and its application would entail optimising thermal comfort and energy efficiency.

The effect of the consolidation process on the morphodynamics and fine sediment dynamics of the Río de la Plata estuary is explored through a circulation-wave-sediment transport model. The consolidation model is calibrated based on settling column experimental data. Different simulations are done in order to initialize the mud layer distribution and to investigate the impact of different erosion parameter assumptions on the modeled sediment dynamics. Finally a two-year simulation is done with and without the consolidation process and realistic hydrodynamic forcings. Considering the consolidation process, the model correctly reproduces measured vertical density profiles in the Montevideo Bay access channel. The simulated suspended sediment dynamics behavior in Montevideo Bay with the consolidation process provides a more realistic deposition pattern in regard to the dredging activities.

Dealing with a hyper-successful neighbor: effects of the invasive apple snail Pomacea canaliculata on exotic and native snails in South America

Pomacea canaliculata is a successful invader and also a competitor and predator of other snails and may play a key role in structuring freshwater snail communities both in its native and invaded range. In the present study we evaluated the contact and distant effects of P. canaliculata in its native range on exotic (Melanoides tuberculata and Physa acuta) and native snails (Heleobia parchappii, Biomphalaria peregrina, and Chilina parchappii). Habitat use was affected in P. acuta, H. parchappii, and B. peregrina by contact effects of P. canaliculata, whereas survival was only affected in P. acuta through combined con tact and dista nt effects. Fee undity was reduced in P. acuta and B. peregrina by combined con tact and distant effects;evidence of egg mass predation was also observed in both species. Melanoides tuberculata was not affected at all by P. canaliculata. The snail species with higher withdrawal resp on ses to con tacts with P. canaliculata were those that suffered less mortality by corporal contact, whereas snails with high crawling away responses suffered from higher mortality. The effects of P. canaliculata seem to be highly negative to small non operculate sn ails that lay gelati nous egg masses, whereas large operculate ovoviviparous snails are not affected in their survival and reproducti on. This apple snail may exert biotic resista nee agai nst P. acuta but could favor the establishme nt of M. tuberculata and other function ally similar species in new habitats in South America.

Phosphoinositide 3-Kinases （PI3Ks） are proteins coupled to a variety of cell surface receptors and play a key role in signal transduction cascade regulating fundamental cellular functions such as transcription, proliferation, and survival. PI3Ks also are important in disease processes such as inflammation and cancer. The aim of this review is to outline current understandings of the PI3K family, mechanism of their activation, their role in inflammatory responses and the development of malignant tumors.

Multicomponent Assessment of the Geometrical Uncertainty and Consequent Margins in Prostate Cancer Radiotherapy Treatment Using Fiducial Markers

The aim is to compute all sources of geometrical uncertainty in prostate radiotherapy using fiducial markers and determine the safety treatment margins. Based on the markers position, correlations between prostate rotation/deformation and rectal and bladder fillings as well as changes in prostate volume during the treatment course are analyzed. The study includes 375 pre-treatment CBCT images from 15 prostate cancer patients treated with hypofractionated radiotherapy. The position coordinates of the markers were obtained from each image acquisition. In addition, rectum and bladder were outlined on CBCTs. The intrafractional error was estimated by an additional post-treatment CBCT acquired on alternate days. Tau-Kendall analysis was performed to correlate organ fillings with prostate rotation/deformation. Delineation uncertainty was assessed from contours of 10 patients performed by two radiation oncologists and repeated twice. The CT contouring was assisted by a multiparametric MR approach combining a T2-weighted with diffusion-weighted imaging, and a gradient recalled echo for fiducial marker identification. Uncertainty associated to treatment unit was estimated from phantom measurements. The obtained clinical margins were 4.4, 7.3, 5.1 mm in the Left-Right, Superior-Inferior, and Anterior-Posterior directions, respectively, being the contouring the most important contribution. The mechanical limitations of the beam delivery system and the associated imaging device entailed errors of the same order as prostate motion, rotation or deformation. Weak correlations between variation of the rectal volume and the presence of rotations/deformations were found (correlation coefficient 0.182, p = 0.001 for rotations around lateral axis;correlation coefficients 0.1, p < 0.05 for deformations). The distance between markers decreased with session number, becoming more pronounced from fraction 13 and reaching 1 - 1.8 mm at the end of the treatment. In summary we have determined
